Lobo did not enjoy flight. It struck him unnatural to be in metal cylinder few thousand feet above the earth. Flight was for birds and sure as hell he wasn’t one.
If someone told him that very soon he will almost live in plains in order to conduct business he would declare man certifiable.
There he was, few thousand dollars in his pocket, few thousand miles away from any familiar face or place and for the first time coldly scoping the insanity of the task before him. Now when anger subsided few facts became painfully clear. First, finding one man in city size of Chicago made looking for a needle in haystack almost like a walk in the park. Second, even if he found him odds are he will be with some sort of a crew making any chance of Lobo actually walking away from there alive literary non existent.
However that crew and that man took lives of absolutely everyone Lobo ever cared about, just to send him invitation, and some of them will be introduced to Lobos blade because of it.
Manner in which Lobos friends were disposed of, all of those caught off guard or helpless were killed by hatchet… and slowly at that, were like a calling card. Viktor. One of cousins Lobo robed and ditched more then year ago in Poland. Question that presents it self was: Where is second one? See Damian preferred to play with skinning knifes and there weren’t any injuries consistent with that. Those two were together always since they were brats. That was just another thing that did not make sense in this clusterfuck Lobo was heading in.
He sighed and exited airport, scanning area for a cab or car to steal, whichever came first, when he felt someone tugging him by the sleeve. Lobo looked down and saw a boy of 10-12 year of age dirty and dressed in rags but surprisingly healthy looking. Whatever this boy do to survive it wasn’t begging that’s for sure, Lobo automatically checked all of his pockets. Boy chuckled.
If I was about to relive you of that nice wallet you wear in right back pocket of your pants I wouldn’t be pulling by the sleeve genius.
Lobo raised his eyebrow, boy got the point and wasn’t afraid of him one bit, both facts that Lobo liked. He grinned at the boy taking a small satisfaction when he winced for a half of second after taking a sight of Lobos overgrown canines.
So what business you got with me?
You’re Lobo right?
That was more statement than a question but Lobo counters it anyway.
How do you figure that?
Boy rolled his eyes.
Unpleasant looking guy with shaved head and scar across his left cheek, suits you perfectly.
Unpleasant looking eh?
Boy shoots him another mischievous grin.
Well exact phrase was “vicious looking prick” but for some reason people take offence when called that.
Lobo laughed, if this boy survives next few years he will achieve great things.
So what do you have for me little man?
Boy pulls out crumpled piece of paper.
Address where you supposed to go in exchange for 20 bucks.
20 bucks? A bit steep for a piece of paper.
Boy grinned
It’s standard fee for dealing with vicious looking pricks.
Lobo pulls out his wallet and take 100 $ from it.
How about I kind of pinch in little extra for some information?
Boy chewed on his lower lip for few seconds like he was weighting his options.
That address is bunch of abandoned ruined warehouses near the coast, nobody goes there. Well nobody with good intentions anyway. There are around dozen of them, foreigners like you. Armed mostly with sawed off double barrel shotguns and few guns. One who told me to seek you out is maybe head taller then you, long dark hair, dead looking eyes. Boy pauses for a moment And he reeks of blood, seriously, just standing near him is nauseating.
Lobo smiled and put 100 $ in his pocket, boy frowned and opened his mouth but before he could protest Lobo threw him his wallet.
There are few bucks short of 6000 $ in there, if you are as street smart as I think you are you’ll double that money before morning. This hundred I kept is for cab fare.
Good luck kid.
Lobo waved one cab that just drove some young couple to the airport, as he entered he heard boys voice
Wait!!
Kid nervously gripped the wallet in his hand.
Don’t go there. That’s a death trap if I ever saw one and I saw quite a few.
Lobo grinned again.
Of course it’s a death trap, it’s not like I traveled from another continent just to attend bachelor party.
Check obits tomorrow and light a candle for me if you find the time.
Lobo closed the door and motioned driver to go. Drive was longer that he cared for, while keeping his cool in front of the boy now his nerves were at braking point. Death had really little appeal to him, he’ll be 20 in few days and just few days back things were really looking up for him. Now he was VOLUNTERILY driving to certain death, ups and downs, highs and lows, shit and flies.
Cab stopped at the beginning of what it looked like some sort of warehouse graveyard, it wouldn’t be hard to imagine someone riding around city picking up demolished, burned or just plain rune down warehouses and cluttering them here.
Cab driver turned around to him.
This is as far I go sir, only suicidal maniacs go further he winced looking at Lobo just an expression. No offense meant sir. That would be 45$ and 60 cents.
Lobo threw at him his last 100 $
Keep the change.
Out of the car first he noticed wind. Maybe because of that warehouse maze, maybe it was simple geography but wind seemed to blow from all directions. Second thing he noticed was scent of burning rubber, wolfboy they called him in old country, his nose could rival any bloodhound…rival and win.
So now he just relaxed and fallow his nose, strangely enough all the tension he felt before just evaporated. No fear, no anger, no regrets… just serenity.
He was here to do a job, that’s all; nothing will stand in his way. Job like any he’s done before.
Soon he found himself in some kind of improvised square and there they were, careless as usual, relying on brute strength. Kid was close about numbers, 14 of them in total, all of them from blood soaked countries that surrounded his own… and of course Viktor.
When Lobo entered square Viktor grinned and turned to tall wiry guy next to him.
Told you he will come. Cough up that dough Ishtvan.
Ishtvan reached inside his coat pulled out impressive stack of money and handed it over to Viktor. Then he looked over Lobo with disgust.
This only proves he’s too dumb to stay out of the harms way, nothing else.
Lobo measured Ishtvan with passing glance then smiled.
God damn Viktor, don’t tell me you traded Damian for THAT. I mean Damian is filthy psychotic son of a bitch same like you but he is ELITE. That thing wave in Ishtvans direction is not even cheap copy. More like something to be killed first instead of you. Grins You know dog would be cheaper.
To Ishtvans credit he admittedly moved really fast, his gun was half drawn when Viktors fist connected with his temple and laid him down like sack of potatoes. Viktor then faced Lobo.
Damian is not elite, Damian WAS elite. While we were chasing your tail through France he got caught and hanged. After that they burned his body and scattered his ashes Devil knows where.
Lobos smile just grew wider.
Damn and I thought this will be a bad day. Just tell me you brought me bottle of Rakija and promise I’ll kill you fast.
Viktor grinned
You know I should just order to shoot you right here and now. But this city will be ours in matter of days, crime families here are more like politicians then criminals I bet they higher ranks even forgot how blood smells like.
Viktor reaches inside his coat and pulls out his meat cleaver
So what I’m gonna do now is chop both of your hands and feet, so you can witness how we take over this world. Then I’m gonna pass you to Ishtvan, trust me when he have cool head he is quite imaginative, especially sexual wise.
Now pull out that toothpick you call a blade and play a while with me.
Lobo sighed
Man this will be so anticlimactic that I’m glad nobody is watching.
Viktors grin grew wider
Don’t worry I’ll take my time with your feet so everyone can be happy… Here I go…
Viktor dropped to his knees, handle of dagger protruding between his eyes, small stream of blood trickling down his face, then his lifeless body just fell on the side. Lobo bared his fangs.
My “toothpick” can be thrown idiot! chuckles How does it goes? “No luck just skill one shot one kill”
Lobo laughed, watching Ishtvan somehow rise to his feet pulling his gun and pointing it to Lobos chest.
I bet NOW you would like to have a bit more then that ONE shot eh?
Lobo shrugged, one he came for is dead. Good result in his book. Gunshot broke the silence; Lobo closed his eyes for a second but impact never came, when he opened eyes he saw Ishtvans wrist hanging on few strings of meat his gun on the ground. Then all hell broke loose, hail of gunfire came from behind Lobos back and all 14 of Viktors man started to twitch as the bullets pierced their flash in some kind of Death dance. One round grazed Lobos left shoulder and woke him from the trance. He hit the ground, back first so he could at least see what the fuck is going on.
To him it lasted for eternity but all was over in less then two minutes, Viktors crew was lying in growing pools of blood and Lobo heard footsteps closing in. Playing dead at this moment would accomplish nothing so he pulled himself in seating position.
Few people lead by the woman carrying unsheathed Japanese sword past him by like he was just another rock on the road.
Lobo whipped cold sweat from his forehead trying to jumpstart his brain, he needed plan…he needed fucking miracle actually. Then pair of expensive shoes stopped at his right side, something about it vaguely reminded him of childhood. He looked up.
Tall blue eyed, blond man with weathered face was lighting a cigarette with one hand…in other he was still holding a gun. He glanced at Lobo and smiled.
Are you suicidal or just really, really dumb?
Lobo blinked few times confused. But man continued with his pleasant voice with russian accent like they discussing flower growing.
Have you considered any backup plan? As a matter of fact have you considered anything after killing that man?
He leisurely pointed at Viktors corpse. At that moment woman that lead advance team reached Viktor, put one foot on his face and dragged dagger out of his skull. She approached Lobo and threw dagger in his lap, her cold gaze locked with Lobos eyes.
You don’t deserve that blade. Your technique is non existent, same as your respect for such work of art.
She shifted her hand and suddenly blade of her katana was under Lobos throat.
Next time I will not return it to you.
She moved on, Russian guy laughed but it was worm sound not one to be insulted by.
Don’t take it personally. She just respect blades too much to let go when she see one mistreated like that one you carry.
He glanced at dead bodies.
Every now and then there is bunch of idiots who think they can just jump off ship and take the city like that’s their birth right. This is how they end…always. You wouldn’t happen to have same aspirations?
Lobo slowly stood up looked man in the eyes and smiled.
Nah.I’ll pass on whole taking over town stuff. But however I wouldn’t say no to a beer.
Man studied Lobo for a few seconds and then looked toward the limo hidden in shadows. In front of it there was a couple, stunning blonde accompanying man in dark black suit. From both of them power was just spreading like a cloud, she smiled and man gave a slight nod.
Man in front of Lobo laughed reached in his pocket and took out business card and handed it to Lobo.
Go clean yourself up and be there in 8:00, you might just learn that for success in this world you need more then guts.
Man fallowed rest of his companions and disappeared. Lobo looked down at business card it was written Timothy_Petrov Inquisitor Bar and Grill.
Lobo smiled, maybe he was granted another chance for a family. |

Yeah, the last time I had four lobo, I was having flashbacks, too. Reality truly IS a state of mind. |

Timothy listened intently to the conclusion of his comrade's story. Bits and pieces of the past gradually became clear to him as the immediate events before the warehouse massacre were described to him in intricate detail. Taking a moment to reflect upon that close call, he recalls the meeting with Lobo at his establishment following the incident in vivid detail.
I remember when you first walked through the door Lobo, smelling of blood and liquor with a formidable gaze that would make even the most seasoned vetron think twice before messing with you. You walked right up to me and handed me back my card that I had not but given to you a day prior and formerly introduced yourself. We talked for hours about life on the streets that night over a bottle of Severka and you told me about your past, about your father and the hard life you had lived.
I too know the pain of loss comrade, for my father and his father were both gunned down in this life we have here before us, fighting for what they beleived in. They died as men of honor and you expressed your wishes to turn the path your family name had taken, to set in motion a new direction and achieve a fresh start working here on THESE shores.
To say the least, I was impressed with your determination and am happy to call you a brother.

SINGER had read all four of Lobos stories about his life. To say that they were remarkable would be doing Lobo an injustice. From a man that had come from across the world and gotten this far is just simply amazing. Not many men, SINGER believed, could be this great at sharing their life experiences. SINGER believed that perhaps organized crime was not Lobos entire calling for life perhaps writing a story, a book, a novel would be something he would excel in.
SINGER had walked over to Lobo and offered his hand. Shaking it he smiled at Lobo.
From the days of you fighting in the pits of the underground to the days you found a crew in Ireland to now mr. Lobo, you have blown me away. I am so impressed with you and what you have accomplished. I only wish that the rest of the friends in our life had the time to read what i have read friend. I await to see the continued stories of how you did great work in Chicago and i look forward to all the possibilities your heart holds.
SINGER shakes his hand and then gives him a high five. Dramatically turning around SINGER gets in a taxi and drives to a local diner. |
