| City-Specific Felonies | Started by: Phreaking_Panda on Feb 05, '11 01:43 |

Alright, so after mulling over this idea for a day or two now, I've decided to post it and see what the members of the community think and hopefully provide some help with it, if it's liked. The idea is to add felonies (Which only earners+ can commit) for each city. I believe this would add some realism and roleplay aspects to the game in the form of you being able to say you went to Las Vegas to rob the casino, etc. So far, I only really have an idea for three cities. The time on these felonies would be 2 hours (Because of the potential benefits one could reap). You could also add achievements for these felonies, thus increasing the potential exp a person could gain.
Moving on to the point:
For Las Vegas, I have one of two ideas in mind. The first one being that the player plays at the local casino and counts cards, thus cheating to win money. The other idea, of course, is that the player steals money from the local casino. Either way, this would work similar to pickpocketing, but the player has the ability to take up to 30-50K, depending on their exp/rank/etc. This money would come from one of the local casinos in the city and would obviously have a stealth ability involved. The owner of the casino would ask for payback like most normal pickpockets and unless you stealthed them, you would probably have to pay it back or end up dead. This could make the casino owners pay more attention to their casinos than just buying them and making loads of money off of them. Also, if stealthed, the player would get away with anywhere from 30-50K in one felony.
For Detroit, I've decided to theme the idea around Grain Alcohol, seeing as it's the only city in which Grain Alcohol ever reaches low prices. The felony would involve you stealing grain alcohol from the local distillery/brewery/whatever. Upon doing this successfully, the player would gain his maximum amount of drug units in grain alcohol, assuming he doesn't already have his units taken up by other drugs. So, instead of reaping the benefit of money, persay, they would recieve alcohol in which they can sell to a local drug dealer. If you have say, 50 drug units, you could easily make 50K free money every two hours, assuming you succeed.
The third and final one that I have come up with is for Chicago. Chicago has always been known as the city for killing/hitters/etc. So, this idea would include MIAs. Upon committing the felony, an MIA is spawned randomly in one of the cities and is only visible to the person committing the felony for he is hiding. The player would then fly to kill the MIA for 1/4th of a kill on his gun and anywhere from 1-5K. This would mean that every 8 hours, you can get 1 kill without ever touching a single IA, RIA, NPC, Player or spending a dime. This would obviously come with it's chance of wackback. These MIA spawns would not count towards the Durdens.
That's all of the ones I have so far. Hopefully you guys will like the idea and possibly add to it. |

As a small addon to the Las Vegas portion, your pickpocket skill/stealth would attribute to whether or not you stealth the casino and how much you end up taking. This would give pickpocketing a small use and ensure that people don't just pickpocket for the fun of it. There could also be the adverse affect that the Casino owner beats the crap out of the player and takes a percentage of their current on-hand money, just like pickpocketing.
The city-specific portion could either be that these felonies are only in specific cities or players from these specific cities would have the ability to do the felonies. For instance, a member from Chicago would only have the extra felony to get the MIA. This would give GF/CL more of a reason to pick their city. |

No shame in a bump, I still think this is a good idea. |

Personally, I'm in favor of anything that emphasizes the differences between the cities and gives the game resources to contend over. Unique crimes sound good to me. |

I second Crawford's point. Anything that will make each city each and individual and unique I am all for. At the moment running the same petties and felonies can get quite boring. |

Well, as I stated originally, I feel each crime should be reflected on the city...Sadly, I can't think of what was big in the other 5 cities. :x I think the three I made before still sound pretty good and would probably work. So, guys, what was big in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Saint Louis, New Orleans, and New York in the 1930s? |

If one of the Las Vegas ones is robbing a local casino, what incentive is there for a Las Vegas person to own a casino? Having 50 people robbing it every 15 minutes would suck big time. |

Searching around, I found this tidbit: "The first bank in the United States was created in Philadelphia in 1791". Thus, we could possibly theme Philadelphia's crime around robbing banks. Perhaps, you would rob a certain % from the banks of everyone with a home city of PH? You would obviously need to make the % rather small, as there are several banks that I imagine hold quite a bit of money. Following my original idea, this could be either the felony done in PH, thus PH citizens would be robbed, or the people that called PH home could rob other cities, using the felony. There would be a stealth check involved like much else in the game which would allow you to stealth the bank robbery. This would fit in well with the upcoming stealth training facility.
To answer your question, PotatOS, this idea was thought up three months ago. Not everything is perfect. Even still, it would work much like pickpocketing. In that, the owner would ask for the money back or they would get stealthed. Also, having the felony specific to only Los Angeles was one idea. The other was have the felony specific to the families of Los Angeles, making it so that the members could go to other cities and use the felony to rob other casinos. |

this idea sounds good, but because it involves the circulation of player's money, I think it'd be better as an OC, not a felony.
Great ideas though. |

We already have OCs mate. This would affect the felony timer as well as the time you can be involved in OCs. Besides, not all of the ideas affect the circulation of player's money. Personally, I like the secondary option, in which you can do these felonies in any city if your home city is of the city the felony belongs to. This would make the decision of a city/family a tad more dynamic. If we make each of the crimes roughly equal, then no city would have an advantage, and you would need to decide which you crime would rather have. |

(I'm going to assume you meant LAS VEGAS and not Los Angeles fyi. rofl)
If it was for the members of Las Vegas, then any time a casino was robbed, the casino owner would point to Las Vegas as the culprit regardless of stealth or not.
Would this work as an actual felony option, or in replace of all the felony options? If there were other options, I'm not sure that particular one would be used very often. Instead of getting 500-1000 every 12 minutes you most likely get nothing since it would be demanded back. And still, casino owners in LV wouldn't be happy, since when they ARE stealthed, they are losing money (and if a lot of people stealth, they have no reason to keep a casino thats only robbed and not played in). And no casino owner would be happy with 50 people trying to rob their casino every 12 minutes, all day long.
For the Philly bank idea, what would the incentive to having money in the bank in Philly be? The majority of the people who use banks are CLs, so again, they would not be happy with 50 people robbing them every 12 minutes. |

Do you always point out the negatives to suggestions? :) As I stated, this is an idea IN THE WORKS. Also, as I stated, I believe it should be given to people with the home city, as opposed to only being able to be comitted in that city. Plus, the % stolen wouldn't be a massive amount. 50K-100K at the most for the casino and maybe 1% of all of the banks in a city for the bank one. Believe it or not, some people actually do use banks. I am trying to give the game more life and you're shitting on every idea I make. If you want to make the idea better, suggest alternatives. |

50k-100k from a casino? So one person who was good at it could take 500k-1mil from a casino in a two hour trip to another city?
And if was applicable to people that had that home city, then stealth wouldn't really matter. When a person had their bank robbed, they know it was someone from Philly. When a casino was robbed, its someone from Las Vegas. They simply go over who may have actually did it straight to their leaders, who go to that cities leaders, and get repaid. Which would be annoying to have to do 100 times a day for the leaders, thus a mutual ban on it between all the cities.
And I'm poking holes in the suggestion to see if it can be made better. If all suggestions were taken as-is, then I suggest everyone send me a million dollars. |

If you hadn't noticed, you can only do the felony once every two hours. That means 50-100K every two hours. Not 500K-1M. I could really see a Godfather going to another city to ask for repayment on a crime comitted against their city. Are we turning into Mafia Matrix now? A casino gains millions a day and you can win 100K with ease from a casino. Why exactly would they mind if you stole it? As you might have noticed, had you read, the casino owner also has the chance to beat the person stealing from them up and take their money. As you say, people don't bank often. This would result in the casino owner potentially making alot of money from people trying to steal their money. |

Read over the part about 2 hours. My bad. Although it still only takes 10 people to succeed in a day to rob 500k-1mil. Plus, when I had a casino, it didn't make millions a day. It made (if I remember correctly - can't find my casino stats at the moment) about $100 for every game played. But short term, a casino can also lose a few million as well without having people robbing the vault.
And they would care, because it was their money. Some people even mind if you pickpocket 5k of it.
And why wouldn't they ask for compensation? You, representing your crime family, have slighted and disrepected them and their crime family by stealing from them. I would expect them to try to be compensated. |

I don't think Squishy really wants to change the amount of $$ rewarded by the felony / petty, but rather gladly change the name of them to give a more unique feeling to each city. |
