Put Vote next to the +'s Started by: _Benny_The_Ball on Feb 08, '11 03:12

It will help avoid confused and make new players know what it is used for.

Report Post Tip

They could do that or the n00bs could read the Tutoial either under help or on the first page so they know what the + are for and most everything else in game.

i agree with Benny on this one. adside from the money and XP, the votes put the site out some more. people actually look at those voted on lists, and if more poeple vote, then there is a higher chance of having our site be seen.

so, to me, it makes sense to make the votes as idiotproof as possible.

Report Post Tip

As The_Chosen_One stated, there is a tutorial in place that tells you about the vote sites. Many users send out a welcome mail that includes the tutorial, just like it used to include the bible. If the new users choose not to read the tutorial, it's their own fault. MR is in the top 5 of every vote site we are on anyway.

Report Post Tip

Doesn't hurt adding it. It has only positive benefits. Having it only on the tutorial isn't that assuring. Hell, I didn't read the tutorial.

Report Post Tip

I don't see any problem with putting VOTE next to the +s. How much is it really going to affect playability to see VOTE FOR MR ++++++++++ at the top of the screen?

Report Post Tip

While we're doing this, why don't we take the new player's hand and walk them all the way to Don. Why not help them get 500 kills as well? This game is about the mafia and has always had certain areas that take knowledge. If new users choose not to read the information that has been put forth by players of the game, it's their own fault. Quite frankly, I feel that MR needs the votes less than they need users that will want to be told everything to do while they play. If a user is too lazy to read, he shouldn't be playing MR in the first place, as it is a roleplaying game.

Report Post Tip

MR uses those votes to justify ad revenue spent and to entice more new players to the game, being near the top of those game advertisement sites. Yes there is a tutorial in place and players who stay usually skim over it to find out the answers they need when they need them. I would venture to say that most new players who sign up and just want to see what the game is about aren't going to read through a novella to find out what the game is about... they want to play a little first. And while they're playing, if they see a little "VOTE +++++++" at the top of their screen, they might be inclined to click on it, versus just coming in to see what the game does and ignoring them.

Its not like this person is suggesting the game is a complete walkthrough, Panda. The +++++++s are already right there. There is NO harm in adding "VOTE" right next to it.

Report Post Tip

That is where I disagree. There is plenty of harm in it. If we make things easier in this regard, what will change next? Over the past few years, things have changed and become much easier than they used to be. This, in my opinion, has led to nothing more than stagnation and longer lives. Making things idiotproof is not always a good idea. As for MR being at the top of the vote sites, it already is. MR currently recieves at least double the new players it recieved 2 years ago.

Report Post Tip

While I agree that things have changed, I don't know that they've become easier (probably because I only use half of the features of the site, since I'm here to socialize and roleplay only) but this suggestion doesn't affect gameplay negatively (as voting does nothing for gameplay, other than incentivise the act and provide return on investment for the owners and financiers of the site). Many additions to this game have been implemented in recent years that destroy gameplay (the introduction of a shitton of npcs/npms/generated accounts and that stupid, idiotic boss screen), and my general yay/nay vote to new suggestions is dependent on 1) does this suggestion destroy gameplay, 2) does this suggestion take away from the roleplay aspect of the site, and 3) is this just another stupid clickmonkey feature?

I do see your point, Panda, that the information is there for people to read, but as this suggestion is just a little word to identify what the ++++s are at the top of the screen, it doesn't violate any of my three criteria for supporting or opposing suggestions. It doesn't destroy gameplay, it doesn't take away from the roleplay aspect (because voting has nothing to do with roleplay), and the +++s aren't a clickmonkey feature... they're an integral part of the survival of the site and I'm all for anything that helps the owners and people who pay for this site and its advertisement.

And I know that MR is near the top of the voting sites. I didn't dispute that. I'd like it to stay there. Its the quickest way to entice more people to play.

I don't think there's any other way to say what I've already said, and I'm not trying to convince you of my point, I just don't see the harm in adding a word making something non-game related a bit more clear. If this suggestion were to clog up the site with little mini tutorials for everything, then I'd object as it hinders gameplay.

Voting has nothing to do with gameplay. I think that's where we differ. I see your point that this could potentially be a slippery slope, I just don't agree.

Report Post Tip

The average New player is curious and doesn't want to waste time reading which is what this game is about they click on it takes them to a voting site they exit out and think "Hey Free money!" and they keep on doing that not knowing what it's for which leads to alot of account discharges and admin whacks. after a while some know what it's for but they still do it and act like they don't know a single thing.
