Len had a problem. He'd been arrested yesterday for a routine petty crime, robbing a Post Office. The problem was, someone had warned him that things were about to get much worse. There was a rat in the hood, and he knew some, well, bad stuff about Len. Len would normally just dispatch the man, and be done with it. But the man wasn't in town, and no one knew where he was at all. All the tipper knew was that he was going to call a prosecutor in three days. Len, therefore, needed to take some drastic action. He hired a cab, easier than stealing a ride. He ordered the driver to go to a large mansion on the outskirts on town, where the wealthy lived. This part of town wasn't used to the mob scene, although some prominent bosses did make their home here. Len pretended that he lived at the house, the better to keep the driver on the non-suspicious side of things. Len headed to the door, and rang the bell. A maid answered. "Hello," Len says. "I'm here to see the prosecutor." "Right this way," says the maid. For this is the home of a prominent city prosecutor, specializing in the mob.
Len walks into the study. There is a cop nearby, obviously there to protect the prosecutor. "Hello," says Len. "I was sent here to speak to you on the behalf of my, er, employer." "Ah," says the prosecutor. "What is he offering me this time? I thought I told him to quit the gifts." Len is excited. The prosecutor obviously thinks Len is here to bribe him. "I don't know anything that happens high up," says Len. "I do what I'm told. Here is his offer." Len reaches into his pocket, and instead of taking out a letter, pulls out a bottle. He smashes it, and blinding smoke pours out of it. Len runs toward the officer first, and kicks him in the stomach. As the man falls back, he receives another kick to the throat. Blood explodes from his neck. A shotgun is fired from the direction of the desk, now obscured by the smoke. Len runs behind the desk, and plunges a knife into the prosecutor's behind. Steps clatter from the hall, and Len is forced to leave. He has failed in his attempt, that is made clear when the prosecutor sits up. Len smashes the window and flees the area.
Len isn't going to give up, however. The prosecutor is due in court tomorrow.
Len shows up in the courtroom's public section. He is wearing a wig and false beard. The prosecutor comes through the door, guarded by four officers. Len puts out his foot and trips the officer behind the prosecutor, and the man falls into the officer to the prosecutor's right. Len picks up his chair and swings it into the two men on the ground, knocking them out. The officers take out their guns, but can't use them for fear of hitting one of the many civilians nearby. Len kicks an officer from behind, and catches his gun as he falls. Another officer runs in the room, and grabs Len by the neck. Len fires point-blank into the man's stomach. But more officers are running in the building. Len takes a wild and errant shot at the prosecutor before running out of the room, displaying the gun to the frenzied crowd to get through it. He hears guns banging behind him as he jumps over a hedge and runs into a store. He goes straight through the store and out of a back exit, and takes refuge in a dealer's house.
The next day, Len formulates a plan. He calls the prosecutor, pretending to be an informant. He tells the prosecutor that he has information about a murder that happened a week before. The prosecutor agrees to meet him for lunch.
At 12 o'clock, Len is at a table in the coffee shop. A piece of street scum he hired is sitting at another table. The petty crook waves to the prosecutor, who is accompanied by two cops. A third cop waits with the car out front. Len pays for his lunch and walks out the door. He nods to the officer, who nods back. Len passes him, then suddenly whirls around and catches the man around the throat. He gives a hard squeeze and at the same time kicks the officer in the stomach. He falls, lifeless. Len then walks back into the shop, and up behind one of the officers. The prosecutor is arguing with the petty crook, who isn't saying anything, just as Len told him to do. Men stabs a knife into the back of the officer's head, as the other officer rises quickly. Len smashes a cap over the officer's head, and the officer screams as the burning hot coffee streams into his eyes. Len grabs the prosecutor, who is trying to escape. He hits him in the head, and the man falls to his knees. The officer takes out his gun, and fires at Len. But Len jumps sideways, and kicks the gun out of the officer's hand. Len then smashes a plate, and cuts the officer across the face with the jagged edge. He picks up the gun, and accomplishes his task. The prosecutor falls dead, and Len gets away, his dealings with the mob safe for now.
But the rat is still out there, and he must be dealt with next.
