The 40 Million Dollar Controversy Started by: CoconutRandy on Oct 29, '19 20:06

Mafia men and mafia women, Coconut Randy here, editor-in-chief of The Coconut Chronicle. If you have paid attention to the streets recently, you have seen events play out involving a 40 million dollar competition hosted by CommissarZverev and the controversial awarding of that prize to the Wise Guy Destro.

Whether you believe the sum was awarded fairly, unfairly, or conspiratorially, The Coconut Chronicle wants your opinion on the matter. You may telegram me personally or provide your opinion anonymously - and really let it all out - in this Coconut Chronicle mailbox.

Why let your opinion slip silently away when you can have it printed in what citizens have called "one of many newspapers in America"?

Speak now or forever hold your peace!

tiggy was always a fan of the newspapers, tiggy loved the funny papers the most. The Coconut Chronicles was the latest issued paper to pique tiggy's interest, and the Destro allegations was the latest hot topic tiggy would talk about at the local speakeasies to appear up to date on the latest gossip.

Thank you for opening up the mailbox for comments and discussion! I know we all want to know the story and truth behind Destro's writing talent and Zvervev's generosity. Interviews should be held! I want to know what they do for fun, what they eat for breakfast, and what their favorite color is! The People must know what traits these savants hold and what makes them tick! We can never learn too much from our generation's prodigies!

I had an entry I found out about it late and got something in just in time. I was docked for typos and not proofreading it.
Could I have asked for a bit more time to edit mine, sure but didnt.

Would it have beat Destro's even with more time? Doubt it his kicked ass

Did I enjoy doing it and got me motivated to write something?  Yep

Was it real nice of Commish to throw these contests? Totally.

Should everyone take the time and writing talent to vetch about one that's done or work on what to enter with on future ones? *nods*

Thanks to everyone who helped to bring fun contests like this to the game.

Over ten submissions already to our anonymous inbox; a sterling response and a great indication of this nation's thirst for the truth. Keep them coming. The newsroom at Coconut Chronicle HQ is hard at work putting together our next special report based on your input.

As chief investigative reporter for The Coconut Chronicle, my pursuit of the the truth is endless. Even if it leads me into the most scandalous situation since I mortgaged my apartment for two-weeks of studio time. The recording of my first album, Honolulu Highwayman, did not go smoothly when it was discovered that my backing group, The Coconut Bandy, felt that coconut-rock was "not a real genre" and that they had been "playing gigs without me". And so what? My a capella debut, Take My Coconut Handy, did just fine.

They hosted a contest with their money that motivated people to get out in the streets and write something.

They chose the people they thought deserved it.

Nothing wrong with that at all.

I don't see a problem with it.  The contest brought people together, got everyone's creative juices flowing, showcased talent, created more community, and as a bonus it made someone rich.  It was fun and casual.  The host gave away their own money, and they gave a bit of leniency to someone who was a few measly hours late.  I think that's awesome.  That's their call to make, and that allowed one more person to participate and feel included in the fun.

Now instead of graciously thanking the host and congratulating the winner, they are practically being named and shamed.  I think this controversy is ridiculous to be honest.  In fact, I think it's damaging to anyone who may consider hosting similar contests in the future.  If all contests were followed up by conspiracies and controversy, who in their right mind would want to host the next one?  And if rules needed to be implemented and enforced heavy-handedly, who would want to participate?

A fine contribution to the discourse, KellyC, and a final call to anyone who wishes to make their thoughts known. We have had some juicy write-ins to the anonymous inbox overnight and Coconut Chronicle HQ is hard at work putting them into print.
