The length you wouldn't go Started by: LiLi on Nov 25, '19 23:03

Having had another one of those slow days since opening up the warehouse for rent in Las Vegas LiLi was starting to get restless. It had been such a sure bet opening it up to people needing to get jobs done, in an all alone deserted warehouse. Not a prying soul nearby. Hopefully business was going to pick up soon, otherwise she would have to start utilizing it for herself. Hopefully the disappointment from the Godfather himself wouldn’t be too bad.

The restlessness was starting to get on her nerves though. That tingling sensation in the legs, the annoyance in her voice and irritation clearly shown in company of others. She almost felt like it was going to tear her apart. Something had to be done and quickly. A promise to herself was made. The next one walking past her was going to get significantly poorer.

As she was looking around she couldn’t help but notice this old lady getting closer and closer by the second. The promise had been made, but LiLi couldn’t help feeling that stealing from old ladies was a bit wrong. A person who couldn’t defend herself. So LiLi went on with it, snatching the old ladies purse and without hesitation running as if her life depended on it. Looking over her shoulder she could see that the old lady was rather vigorous considering her age. But even then LiLi was far quicker.

Being sure she was in the clear LiLi sat down looking through her newly acquired purse. She found a couple of 100’s, even though this wasn’t all about the money she was happy. But she was even happier about the thrill, it was all about the adrenaline after a slow day like this. Still there was something nagging in the back of her mind. Was it because it should be wrong stealing from defenseless old  ladies or was it because of this old woman probably having to spend some time hungry before being able to come buy some 100’s again. LiLi was not sure.

After spending a few hours in the sunshine thinking about what was happening she decided to try and start a discussion with her fellow low lifers in crime. She found what looked like a busy street corner and made her presence known.

“- We all have our reason for walking these streets. Different things or experiences that made us these murdering walking excuses of human beings. But no matter what those things might be surely a majority of us all have goals or ambitions for where we want to end up. For some it might be just running around stealing stuff from old ladies, for others it might just be the thrill of being one step ahead of the men and women in blue, but for a fair few I think it might be to reach the top. Being in charge of your own family bossing people to do this and that.” Not being used to the attention you get from talking in front of a crowd like this LiLi could feel the warmth spreading in her cheeks. Brushing it off she continued.

“- With that in mind I wanted to ask you all today if there’s something you wouldn’t do in order to reach the top? Imagine you could do anything and get away with it, what is that one line you wouldn’t cross in order to get one of those fine suits saying you’re one of the top dogs in this thing of ours?” Feeling more and more confident with every word she decided it was time to make others get a chance to respond.

“- Is all fair when it comes to follow your dreams or goals? Should it be?”

LiLi could see how the people who had stopped to listen to her words started discussing amongst themselves. She was excited to her all the different answer that might come up.

Claudio listened along to the Consigliere from Las Vegas. He found the discussion brought forth by LiLi to be most intriguing. He was no stranger to this line of thought, as it was something you see in the world of mafioso time and time again.

"Is all fair? Fair for whom exactly? I think that's an odd way to put it when it comes to snubbing out the lives of others, especially those close enough that we'd call them family. No, all is not fair when it comes to reaching our goals. That is the very nature of this life we lead. We take from others to advance our own causes. Simply put: there isn't a decent member of our society that isn't a thief, a crook, and even a murderer.

"I, myself, would have a much easier time listing you the things I would be willing to do to get that far. I would be willing to put in the time and effort to be noticed by those above me. I would help out not only my crew but my entire city whenever I found the chance. When there were times that a leader needed to step up and expand operations, I would make sure that those making that call knew that I was there and fully capable enough to fill that role.

"I wouldn't sell my blood out for a chance to lead because actions such as this are never truly forgotten by those around you. When you are fed information from your mother's milk that a rat's line is a rat's line. Well, mother knows best, si?"

The man pulled out one of his Nat Sherman's from the Cigar Shop in Detroit. A flick of his wrist later, a brilliant display of orange stoked to life his large cigar. Claudio would normally be content to fade back into the crowd, but he was anxious to hear if anyone else had an opinion on the matter.
