Don/Godfather Wack Adjustment Started by: Phreaking_Panda on Feb 21, '11 23:30

After some thinking/researching, I've realized that in the prime of the mafia, you didn't see Dons and Godfathers going out in the streets to kill gangsters. They sent their lower members to do the work. In fact, this often lead to someone becoming a made man. My suggestion is rather simple (Though most Dons and Godfathers will not agree to it). It is that gangsters at the rank of Don and Godfather have their wack timers reset to a larger number than one hour when they are shooting people. This idea is beneficial on several levels, the main in my opinion being that it seems more realistic. This would also stop the Dons and Godfathers with massive guns from being able to be the one-sided deciding factor in wars. This was shown back with Deimne, for instance. He had enough bodyguards that it took his enemies several hours of bodyguard wacking to take him down. He also had a massive gun. This suggestion would make people think twice about rushing to the rank of Don and even Godfather. It would also make a the leaders of our cities depend more on their members than their own guns.

I feel this may help with the stagnation in the game a bit. I mean, if you are shooting at someone with two hundred bodyguards and a gun big enough to wipe out a strong member every hour, would you go up against him? Doubtful. Now, think if you lower the guys ability to kill. Say he can only shoot every three hours. That saves your attacking force two members for every barrage on his BGs. As I said, I also feel this would reduce the number of members trying to rush to the ranks of Don and Godfather and probably get a larger kill count at lower ranks. Also, if this were misused (A Don being demoted to Consig to take a shot), it would make use of the armory credit feature, because the leaders would have to stock up guns to give their guys. However, the recent changes to demotions would almost completely insure that no one would wish to take a demote and lose their drug units. The only negative effects I can think of are that the current Dons and Godfathers probably would not agree with it. I don't blame them in the least.

As I said earlier, the biggest positive to this suggestion would be that it would be more realistic. The Don/Godfather would be shooting less often to coincide with the fact that a Don or Godfather wouldn't really be shooting in the first place. Especially not gangsters. However, the suggestion does not completely take them out of the shooting game. It just makes it harder for them. With all of the power and authority gained with the ranks, I believe there should be something to counterbalance that. This would work perfectly, in my opinion.

I think this is a well thought out idea but I think 3 hours would be too much. Maybe an extra 30 minutes at most. Making the Godfather and Dons depend on there members more is a great idea.

Report Post Tip

Good point. Looking back, 3 hours is a bit much. Something like 30 minutes would seem more appropriate.

Report Post Tip

Does this apply for every Don or just Crew leaders who are Dons?

Report Post Tip

It would have to apply to all Dons to be fair.

Report Post Tip

Yeah, I'd say all Dons.

Report Post Tip

I like that your trying to make things more realistic but surely people will have less incentive to reach the rank of GF and Don.

It should be the ambition to reach those ranks, now more people will wait at Consig so they can shoot more. I really cant see this suggestion being implemented.

Report Post Tip

The point is, there are too many Dons. In reality, there was only one Don per family and most of the time, there wasn't even a godfather. It would make thinks more realistic. If you look back in time several years, there were maybe two or three people that reached the rank of Godfather and Boss was a challenge for most. Now, this is what you see: Godfather - 6
Don - 37. A year or so ago, the Don number was at least double what it is now. Yes, achieving the rank of Don and Godfather is something everyone hopes to do. However, I feel it is far too easy. This would limit the number of Dons in the game. In fact, we would probably begin to see lower-ranked crewleaders with even lower-ranked family members. That's the way I feel it should be. Having 37 Dons is quite ridiculous, in my opinion.

Report Post Tip

Furthermore, to add to my recent statement, nowadays you see people rushing through their ranks to get to the top as quick as possible. You also see crewleaders that hand out ranks like they're free candy on halloween. That's not the way it should be. Members should have to truly prove their worth before they are given their next rank. I feel this would also lower the number of bodyguards in the game, simply because if people are ranked lower, they are less likely to be making as much money. This is due to the fact that they will not be able to do as high of felonies and MUCs. This would force the people crewleaders/godfathers to either increase their taxes, stop buying as many bodyguards or allow their bodyguards to drop in health. This would mean that wars would be more likely to occur and the stagnation of the game would start to disappear.

Report Post Tip

I couldnt agree more. True valid point right there. There are way too many high ranks. I dont think people value the ranks as much as they did. Been made was a honour when I started playing a while back, but I think it has the same effect these days.

6 Godfathers is unrealistic. I think making changes in the same line as Panda is saying will make the game more realistic.

Report Post Tip

Unfortunatly the change that Panda is talking about would be almost impossible to put into the game. The ranks were harder because the players were willing to put forth all that effort to get to the next rank. People not putting in the same amount of effort is what is different.

Report Post Tip

The amount of effort required would not change at all, TheDude. Members would still be able to reach Don if they and their leaders wished to give it to them. However, if members wished to continue to train their guns, they would likely stay below Don. This includes the CL.

Report Post Tip

Honestly, I do not think this would change anything. Kudos for making a well thought out suggestion but despite the fact that I am a Don I think that the only difference this would make would be the number of Consigs. Instead of having 37 Dons you would have 10 Dons and 100 Consigs. Essentially there would be no difference except for the fact that people are staying at consig and since you can be a CL at the rank of consig I do not see why this idea would really change anything at all.

Report Post Tip

If you look back to the original point of the suggestion, it has nothing to do with the amount of Dons, that was simply an after-thought. The original suggestion changed the game in the sense that a Don/Godfather would find it harder to build a massive gun. This would ensure that someone wouldn't jump into those ranks without being prepared as there would be a negative effect of doing so. I feel with this, we would also see lower ranked members overall, which is much more realistic. For instance, you say there would be 100 consigs, that would mean that the crewleader would have to be a Don. This would mean two things, either the crewleader took the time to get alot of kills before getting to Don or he relies on his family members to kill for him. Either way, it's much more realistic. Without the use of a Godfather, a family member can not reach the same rank of it's leader. With that being said, if the crewleader is stuck at Consigliere waiting to build up a gun, his members can get no higher than the rank of Boss. This would also have a universal shift on the powers of the hitters. For, a Don with 200 kills hits alot harder than a Boss with 200 kills. This would mean that overall, the site would not be able to kill as easily in war. This would counterbalance the fact that most members would be unable to make the same amount of money they would be able to make at Don.

Report Post Tip

Just to use myself as an example when I achieved don rank 6 months ago I only had a relatively insignificant amount of kills. (whatever I managed to get in 40 days or whatever) So under this idea in the past half of a year I would have to fight far harder to achieve half as much as others? I don't see how this idea creates more balance in the game as all it does is punish people who have managed to achieve the most and live the longest. All it would do is make it far more desirable to be a 60 unit consig somewhere. Then someone will suggest that this suggestion be dropped down to include everyone consig+ and we'll have a load of 60 unit bosses.

Its just not well thought out even if you did spend the time to write out 3 or so paragraphs about it.

Report Post Tip

I've always felt that before one is given the rank of Don or Crewleader, they should have a significant amount of kills in the first place. This is for obvious reasons. With the added benefits these days for killing, no one should have any problem getting 200 kills before Don. The whole point of this suggestion is to slow users down and you just added to my reasoning. You were Don with a "relatively insignificant amount of kills". You also stated that you achieved Don in 40 days or "whatever". That means you min timed it or extremely close. I feel that no member should be allowed to gain every rank in minimum time. As I stated before, the members should have to earn the ranks and prove their worth. Breaking people out of jail and doing felonies is nowhere near the height of activity I feel one needs to achieve to become Don. Anyone can rank these days. However, not everyone can earn the rank.

Wouldn't what you just suggested be up to the crew leader? The crew leaders are the ones who promote people to Don and if they feel that the person is deserving of the rank of Don then they will promote them. Nobody can just get to Don withouy putting work in, it is up to the crew leaders to promote them and for you to say that the crew leaders are not doing their job is a very daring statement. If you don't like the way the crew leaders are running their families take it up with them or actually acheive the rank of crew leader and also acheive the rank of Don and then say that you feel Dons should not be allowed to shoot as often.

All in all if a crew leader wants his men to do more to earn their rank he will make them do more. The minimum days are just a minimum time that the person can possibly gain that rank. It says nowhere that the second you acheive Don units you will be promoted to Don you must earn it and do more for your family before you earn the rank.

Report Post Tip

In this area of the forums, it is not a daring statement at all. To suggest so is part of the reason many members are afraid of opening their mouths and speaking their minds. In fact, a while back, I spoke with a new crewleader. We were talking about his involvement in affairs and his city. His exact words were that he didn't say much and tried to keep his head down in fear of being shot.

Back to my former point, it has little to do with me. It is something that anyone that played back in the day would notice. Yes, it is up to the crewleader to decide when his members are ready. However, with all of the bonuses one obtains by gaining higher ranks, most crewleaders feel the need to get everyone as high ranked as possible. (This is not as prominent currently as it was a few months back) Quite frankly, I feel the members don't try as hard because there's no need to and they recieve the rank either way.

With that being said, I believe we should return the conversation to the proper direction and back onto the suggestion itself rather than my personal beliefs.

Report Post Tip

It would only lead to people being held back at Consigliere - probably by their own choice. Being promoted to Don would be useless aside from a shot boost, and even then, three times in three hours beats one in three hours.

Pass.
