Retirement orrrr Vacation? Started by: McDermott on Feb 24, '11 23:33

The other night I found myself having a casual conversation with some notable individuals on IRC Avenue, specifically #divinelunacy. The topic of retirement was brought up, but I already had a plan in mind.

When someone retires from the mafia or steps down they don't just die off or disappear, at least not nearly as sudden as they do now in the game. So my thought was instead of retire/suicide it becomes maybe retire/vacation or something of sorts. Basically here's what would happen:

Say Godfather A is sick of leading a city and wants a break. Instead of just dying off, he'll hit retire and appoint a successor given they have the needed XP, members, cash etc.

However Godfather A also has the ability to select a date from which they can return on. A date that no one will know unless it is made public knowledge from said user.

So say I retire on March 1st, appoint InspectorGadget in my place and I go on "vacation". I select that the soonest day I can retire is say March 21st. So three weeks.

However, there is a limit to the: cash you can take maybe something like $10,000,000 on vacation mode. However it will degrade over time. For the first week everyday you lose like 2% of your cash, the second week you lose 8%, the third 20% everyday until you hit a certain dollar amount which we could put per rank like, a Godfather returns with only $250,000 but never drops lower.

So you lose the cash. So for me I plan to leave the 1st, and return the 21st correct? So here's what each day would look like on the cash front:

Day 1: 10,000,000 -> 9,800,000
Day 2: 9,800,000 -> 9,604,000
Day 3: 9,604,000 -> 9,411,920
Day 4: 9,411,920 -> 9,223,682
Day 5: 9,223,682 -> 9,039,208
Day 6: 9,039,208 -> 8,858,424
Day 7: 8,858,424 -> 8,681,255

Week two starts:

Day 8: 8,681,255 -> 7,986,755
Day 9: 7,986,755 -> 7,347,814
Day 10: 7,347,814 -> 6,759,989
Day 11: 6,759,989 -> 6,219,190
Day12: 6,219,190 -> 5,721,655
Day 13: 5,721,655 -> 5,263,922
Day 14: 5,263,922 -> 4,842,809

Week three starts:
Day 15: 4,842,809 -> 3,874,247
Day 16: 3,874,247 -> 3,099,397
Day 17: 3,099,397 -> 2,479,518
Day 18: 2,479,518 -> 1,983,614
Day 19: 1,983,614 -> 1,586,891
Day 20: 1,586,891 -> 1,269, 513
Day 21: 1,269,513 -> 1,015,610

So that would show the percentage drop per week and how it would affect the limits. The longest a Godfather could go essentially is around 30 days before he depletes down to $250,000.

Now there will be certain restrictions like a Godfather can't retire and comeback a Godfather. Instead he would return a Don to the Godfather family and the lowest or youngest Mafiosi in the Godfathers family at the time would be transferred into another family in the city. Also the Godfather would return to the city he retired or "vacationed" from.

On top of that since the Godfather isn't using his Gun it too would deplete like his money, as well as his vision, skill to pickpocket, petty crime % of success, JB skill etc. So the longer you go the worst off the account will be when you return, but you won't lose everything.

This way you can't stock up cash on accounts and then return and take over. Also you would only be able to retire or "vacation" one time and return. If you hit retire again you would be done and start all over.

On top of that the only people able to "vacation" we'll just call it that for now, would be Made men+. Which they all would get there own degeneration %'s etc. What rank they can drop to and all that. Don retires it comes back a Consigliere etc for now.

As for bodyguards I'm thinking the bodyguards would be protected just like the user. So you could never kill someone or their bodyguards while they're on "vacation." However, the bodyguard's degeneration would be the same as they are currently. Whereas since the account will be less active maybe take the avg playing time of the user over the course of time, and configure that to equal how active they are on vacation.

So I've played say 800 hrs, but over the time of 140 days. My average play time is 5.71, but we could always cap that too. Nonetheless the bodyguards couldn't be healed so the user would returns basically with everything just a fraction or percentage of what it once was.

On top of all this, you can't shoot someone within 48 hrs or attack at all. It's for instances like "I'm getting married" type situations. To avoid abuse.
I personally think this would be epic because it would be all kinds of new strategy plus user accounts like Deimne, ThomasRourke, Roman, TheDean, Marietta, and users like them that lived for so long could step back into being the old wise man kind of.

Just a thought, we wouldn't have to say goodbye to as many accounts but we wouldn't be stockpiling.

Could you use it likes this:

There is a war, you hear you are going to be taken out but your not strong enough to defend. Can you take a vacation until other people sort it out and then return when all is safe?

Report Post Tip

Well I suppose as long as you haven't shot anyone in the last 48 hours however if you retire you leave your city in the hands of whoever takes over. So if you were to luck out and retire you'd probably leave the city to die nonetheless and even easier.

I personally think it would only hurt the war even worse. We could probably add in you have to get 48 hr notice before you retire which I don't remember if I mentioned. This way you have to pre-plan to avoid situations like this. Also you can't return until the date you pick too. Which I also think we need to make a minimum "vacation" type thing where you have to go for atleast a week.

The idea seems sound so far, though Datsik brings up a good point.

I can see you have thought this through well.

Seems like it could be a handy addition the game. Although I would only keep it for GF, I think if anyone else needs a vacation they should just rely on their CLs to protect them whilst they were away.

Report Post Tip

I believe this (or something quite similar) would be a really good addition to the game.

There should be a better option for a Godfather to step down as GF without actually having to retire.

I don't really see anything wrong with this idea.

Report Post Tip

I'm sorry but I absolutely hate this idea.

How many times have we seen this game fall into the most boring stability and lazyness because leaders and godfathers who had been in power for ages, were no longer interested in leading and being active.

I mean seriously, if a godfather is tired of leading? then he should get the fuck out and let people who actually want to play and make a difference take place for good.

The Godfather position wasn't designed to be a position where people can finally rest after they "amazing fucking hardwork" to get there.

The position of Godfather should be where people aim to make an actual difference. Lead like never before, do things that you would never do, because after all, that's supposed to be the most power a mafioso will ever have.

Sadly that's not always the case, most people have no further view after they get Godfather. They think that once they achieve that title they have done enough and now they are added into the hall of famous of MR and they just sit on their ass looking pretty and managing a few people like if it was a school. That's not the kind of Godfather I respect and that I will remember.

I think this idea will only make more common cases like this, leaving us to deal with more lazy godfathers that don't do absolutely nothing to improve this game.

Katarina is fair cool.

Katarina I don't mean to be rude but it seems like your opinion, which you're entitled to is missing the overall point.

Yes, I agree that some people once they obtain Godfather do get lazier. I can't lie, after I reached Godfather for a good week or so I was dead, I made decisions but left it up to Octavian or Gaius to help me carry out so I could take a week down time. Although it was under different terms and conditions I went through to get Godfather I feel at some point everyone is entitled to relaxing.

The point of this idea is so that people when they hit the point where they don't want to lead anymore can leave, but still comeback on the same account, take an XP and overall hit but still keep their account so people that have new views etc can come up through the ranks.

Like for instances say in 3 months I'm still Godfather, I've done everything I can think of and obtained all the goals I can come up with. Yet, say Gaius or InspectorGadget, Octavian or Iestyn has Godfather ready and they have new, eventful ideas and in all honesty their leading style is completely different from mine... I can step back. I can relax take a break knowing when I comeback my account will be here, but I'm giving the reigns over for new blood.

Or

Some people might say get married and go on a honeymoon for three weeks. Say they're a Boss in a family and this happens to them. They can leave and comeback knowing they didn't lose everything, because let's face facts. If I married a woman and she pulled her laptop out to play mafiareturns on our honeymoon, we'd be getting an annulment.

This isn't meant to be a way for people to build accounts and stockpile stats and everything meanwhile go unharmed. It's for when people need a break in real life but dont want to lose everything. Which I get, yeah you can always make another account. But if they're taking a hit for the time they're gone what would it hurt?

I don't see how this would create lazy leaders if people are stepping down? Especially appointing new people to lead an entire city.

Report Post Tip

i like other games like mafiamatrix for there vacation modes, you book 5 days in advance and have no involvement in the world for upto 3 weeks.  i am not saying it is not open to abuse, but when i had to go into hospital or had real life issues had to hope nothing broke out when i was away.
