From day one in this business, everyone knows they'll be awarded some sort of reputation. Their reputation is fuelled by what they put out into the world. Some rely heavily on their reputation (or in most cases, their father's father's father's reputation...) to get them further in the organization of their choice. Others couldn't give a fuck less about their reputation. DerKommissar wasn't awarded Asshat of the Year due to his 'one original speech'. Just as his nomination states, it was his entire family that earned him the award. DerKommissar may have been a hardworking man, but the generations that came before him in the past year were not. If one sets out to undo the poor reputation they've earned themselves, one must understand it will take a massive amount of work and dedication. If you spend an entire year being a jackass, don't expect everyone to see you as a prince after a few measly months of effort or change. DerKommissar's decision to end his life based on a simple awards ceremony is quite disturbing. Let's get real here, was DerKommissar's boss holding him back for his ancestor's actions? It's a possibility, but not likely. Those who knew DerKommissar obviously knew he was not like his ancestors. Had he been like his ancestors, he would've been dead within a few short days, just as they were. The award is for the year, assumingly the year 2007, seeing as how the year 2008 hasn't exactly happened yet. |

And here I thought these awards were handed out to certain characters, not bloodlines. Had the award been given to Dirk or to hUmPtYdUmPtY, then yes, your point would be valid. The point here is DerKommissar is a completely different man. If you can't separate past relatives from the current "character", then there's a serious problem in this world. |

You're completely right. Your recent generations have been nothing short of outstanding mafiosi. The reason the Asshat award was different from the others, which were awarded to a single person and not to a family, was because there are far too many who at one time or another have a generation that exhibits asshat tendencies. I wanted the award to go to individuals who were more than just the occasional annoyance, but to those who took the art form to a new level. The only way to do this was to award a whole bloodline, despite the disadvantages you have mentioned, including judging a person based on distant relatives. Personally, I would have given the award to Revan and Revan alone. He is proud of his asshat status and revels in it, and the future of his bloodline will likely maintain that reputation. However, I couldn't ignore the excellent nomination received for DK and still consider myself an impartial judge. Anyhow, I don't want anyone getting offended by any of this. It was all in good fun and the decisions were based on the opinions of single people usually. One person's opinion does not define an individual. |
