Calabrese Wine Company Started by: EnricoCalabrese on Jan 15, '20 06:23

RosaParks Blvd- more commonly known as 12th Street, and Delaware Street was the perfect location for Enrico Calabrese's winery.  Being located there at a very populated spot on 12th Street, the Calabreses were in a good position for the local revenue from Ste. Anne de Detroit.  The Catholic church was only five miles driving distance, situated closer to the Detroit River. The relative distance between all points of concern made exporting and importing various products along with wine easier for the Calabreses.  Local authorities scattered throughout the streets of Detroit lent a hand in turning a blind eye when Father Mooney secured shipments to and from the Catholic church before rerouting to the winery.

Great efforts had been put into the renovations after procuring ownership of the established Meconi winery. Enrico Calabrese escorted his stunning wife, DafneCalabrese throughout their new headquarters of operation to admire the work that had finally been completed to his satisfaction.  Wooden floors paired with the red brick walls created a rustic appearance in the main sections of the winery open to the public. Various pieces of artwork accented a few of the walls near the front entrance. Enrico knew Dafne would be amused to display a few of their prized paintings from various organized ventures from across the lands.

Down one corridor to the right, the oil painting ‘The Wedding Dance’ by Pieter Bruegel the Elder adorned one wall near the door leading into the private Tasting Room.  The couple had secured that particular painting on a recent venture to the Detroit Institute of Arts, happily relieving the museum of its possession. The corridor off to the left from the front area would lead towards another Tasting Room open to the public.  There, customers could enjoy the scheduled tastings of various vintages as they arrived at the Calabrese Wine Company. Each glass displayed the Calabrese name and was purchasable alone or complimentary with a sizable purchase or for premium customers.

Inside the public Calabrese Tasting Room was a large, black, granite bar with a few wooden stools bearing hand-carved Calabrese family crests. There were a few booths on the opposite wall for extra seating. The shelves were lined with an assortment of Pinot Noirs, Merlots, Cabernet Sauvignons, Chardonnays, Rieslings, Gewürztraminers, and many more from previous years. Enrico had a variety of other rare pours flown in from back home in Sicily to be sampled in comparison. The whole ordeal had been rather expensive, but there was no cost too high for a job done correctly. Behind the bar was a knowledgable Sommelier named Lorenzo, ready to serve any patrons who stopped by.

"Il posto sembra fantastico, Amore mio. Sono felice che sia finalmente aperto ora."

Dafne happily squeezed His arm as EnricoCalabrese escorted her around the winery.  Throughout tedious negotiations, the Calabreses never gave up their resolve and determination to acquire the winery, and with money exchanging hands two weeks after the initial meeting, the Italian couple had finally closed the deal and opening Calabrese Wine Company.  Signore Meconi had handed over the reins to Enrico having witnessed the passion for the business that Signore Calabrese possessed wholeheartedly. Dafne was lost in thought, recalling the meetings when she noticed the painting.  Hazel eyes turned towards her Husband, capturing that pair of incredible green eyes.

“Enrico! Non posso credere che tu l'abbia messo in mostra. Lo adoro proprio dove si trova. È il posto perfetto.”

Dafne remembered all too well the little excursion that earned the Calabreses some extra cash as well as one of her favorite paintings at the Detroit Institute of Arts.  Her smile reached all the way to her eyes as they walked over to take a closer look, admiring the work of art she treasured.

Once Dafne was shown every nook and cranny of the winery, Enrico led them towards the office for a private celebratory toast.  He already had two glasses bearing the Calabrese logo and a chilled bottle of Merlot waiting on the small table inside. After pouring them both a half glass each, Enrico grinned that devilishly Handsome grin Dafne endlessly adored then gave a short toast.  The glasses clinked as the couple celebrated the beginning of their new venture here in Detroit.

“Auguri! Lascia che il vino scorra in abbondanza.”

The Calabreses many efforts to help the city of Detroit prosper had not been in vain. The couple had come along way in the Motor City in such a short time that they had forgotten to stop and take a moment to enjoy the fruits of their labors. The vintage Merlot had quickly become one of Enrico's favorite drinks since they had acquired the winery. He enjoyed the silky sweet liquid as his eyes fought to keep on Dafne. Half a glass later, he set the goblet back to the table and placed that hand firmly on the small of Dafne's back.

"Tutto è andato a meraviglia. Sarebbe tutto per nulla se tu non fossi qui in piedi accanto a me, la Mia ragione," the Sicilician accent slipped from his lips much like the velvety Merlot that had just graced them. A crease formed at the corner of his lip as he grinned down into her hazel depths. Deep from within his chest, a low rumble stirred nearing a growl. "Sei Mio," he said before placing a kiss upon her pouted lips. Enrico winked at his wife as his hand reached for the glass once more.

"Signore Calabrese, eh," Enrico's newest bodyguard, Jeffrey, looked rather perplexed. "There is a Father Mooney here. I don't know how he slipped in the back." With a wave of his arm, Enrico put Jeffery's worries at ease.

"Let the man in," he commanded before finishing his glass with two raised brows in DafneCalabrese 's direction. Father Mooney had been getting rather antsy lately. This had become a bit of an issue as you can't just take out a priest. The catholic church tended to frown upon those sorts of things when they weren't the ones behind the blade.

"The good Lord has a large flock, Mr. Calabrese," The fact that Enrico didn't outwardly flinch at how terrible the father was at pronouncing his name was no simple feat. "I thought we both agreed that the church's cup would runneth over, friend?" Father Mooney spoke with his hands outstretched as if he were addressing mass. The toothy grin on his face never did seem quite genuine.

"I've made you richer than many clergy should ever aspire to be, Father Mooney," Enrico assured as he pointed to the door. Jeffery and Giuseppe both took watch to make sure no one happened upon their conversation. The way Enrico moved across the room to the father looked like water flowing naturally down stream. The grin upon his face looked nothing less than wholesome. Enrico slipped a hand around the Father's shoulder and gripped to him tightly.

"Now let's go have a sample of this weeks shipment?" Enrico knew what the man was really after. He shot a pair of emerald daggers across the room to Dafne. He wasn't upset at her, he just wasn't impressed with this addict acting out.

"Giuseppe," the large man came over. It was odd to see someone have to bend down to hear Enrico whisper. Most weren't much taller than him at 6 feet. "Lascia che nostro padre assapori il prodotto di questa settimana. Gli piace il marrone." Giuseppe's eyes went wide only to find a scowl from Enrico. He quickly fixed his face and nodded. "Right this way, Father. I hear this stuff is something divine." The burly Italian chuckled as he ushered the priest off to his next high.

Enrico looked over at his wife and let out a long sigh as he crossed the room back to her side. The father was nothing that he couldn't handle, but he didn't want him to spin too far out of control. They had a good thing going right now. Enrico had always considered himself a Christian man, but this priest was testing just how far he'd go to keep his grip on Detroit.

"Ora dove eravamo, stupendi?"

After arriving in town for a much needed vacation. JackRyan decided that he needed to go check on the new business his boss had finally finshed setting up. He took a walk down to 12th street followed by a few of his very trusted bodyguards. He knew what to expect as Enrico has given him some details of the business idea. He walked in the front door and headed towards where he thought was the private tasting room. He opened the door and looked around. Opps that was the bathroom. As he walks out he sees Enrico. A smile comes across his face.

"Hello there sir, what a mighty fine establishment you've got here. Its a delight to be invited."

Jack then takes a step back and looks around a bit more.

"Calabrese, Calabrese.", he said in a mocking tone to himself while holding the binoculars firmly against his eyes the wrong way, wondering why everything was so tiny and out of focus he became more upset than before and began to go on a rant about how his grapes are better in every single way and why to absolutely no one as he was tucked securely away in some bushes a few meters away from the outskirts of the Calabrese Wine Company.

"I bet they don't even hand out free capers like me..."

Unable to see anything from his vantage point he scuffled his way up from the floor and let go of his tactical positioning, deciding instead to opt for a more undercover and less suspicious way of finding out how exactly they're able to run a more successful business than his. B'peu had been a household name in at least five houses before they opened, and now even his own grandmother won't try his newest concoctions. Fetching his most illustrious bright yellow coat and greenest pants he had in his wardrobe he made his way over to the Wine Company and decided to try and make his way into their tasting room.

"My name is Fig... Figginius T. Roberts...", whispering his full name to the man he hoped that he could secure himself a spot in the tasting room, which already looked a lot less dirty than his. There weren't even any bags of dirt or gigantic mouse traps, which made him wonder what they did with their mice infestations, "...and I would like to schedule a tasting of your finest wines. All of them, just line them up in these vials I've brought and I promise I won't take them back to my home to begin testing."

This was going smoothly so far, now all that he had to do was wait.

Dafne savored the sip of Merlot that caressed her palate as her pair of hazel eyes relished at the sight of her Husband.  She knew she would never grow tired of hearing that baritone voice EnricoCalabrese possessed. Dafne’s eyes softened when He said those words as she brought the hand from His forearm up to rest against His chest.

“Solo Tuo, Il mio Re.  Sai che potremmo...”

Anything else she was about to say was lost in the moment when Father Mooney had insisted on interrupting their small, private celebration.  With a soft sigh, Dafne stepped away from Enrico as Father Mooney began overstepping his tenuous importance in regards to the Calabreses’ plans here in Detroit.  His incessant babbling about this and that was nothing but a bore to Dafne, yet she remained nearby in case his temper grew out of control. Nothing and no one was going to hurt Enrico in any way whatsoever as long as she had breath left in her.  Over the past few weeks, the Father had made several attempts to assert some kinda dominance over what he considered ‘his’ territory.

While it was true the Calabreses did, in fact, need the Catholic church to assist with moving products and handling deliveries or shipments, there was no dire need to retain Father Mooney himself should he get overzealous with his actions.  Ever so mindful of all this, Enrico kept His cool demeanor as the two men spoke before Giuseppe had entered the room to escort Father Mooney for a special sample of a recently imported treasure. Once the pompous priest had taken his leave finally, Enrico turned back to Dafne with that crease slowly appearing on His right cheek as He reclaimed His spot beside her.  His voice was as soft a caress as His hand, and Dafne gazed into those incredible green eyes with impish delight.

“Bene, stavo per suggerire di cenare da qualche parte per celebrare l'apertura della nuova attività. Ora sto pensando che una cena a casa sarebbe la cosa migliore.”

Dafne paused thinking a quiet dinner at their home with zero interruptions sounded heavenly.

“Potrebbe esserci qualcosa di molto importante da discutere con lei, signor Calabrese.”

"C'è qualcosa che ho trascurato?" Enrico asked DafneCalabrese as he tried to keep his brow from arching curiously. There was something in the way she had spoke that had him thinking it was more than just a junkie priest on her mind. He reached up and smoothed back a stray strand that threatened to impede his view of hazel infinity. Before he was able to inquire further about the discussion Dafne was bound to have with him, a familiar face came grinning out of the men's room.

JackRyan !" Enrico reached over behind the bar and grabbed another glass from behind the counter. He poured Jack his own to match theirs and slid it closer to him. "It's wonderful to see you out and about. Lorenzo over there will get you anything your heart desires, and if he can't find it we know a guy that knows a guy. Ya know?" The Sicilian chuckled as he gave the man a pat on the shoulder. Finally having the doors open to the public had been a nice weight lifted from his shoulders and it showed.

Lorenzo was busy tending to the other man that had just walked into the establishment. Enrico couldn't help but steal a glance every now and again over at Figment

"Figginius T. Roberts," Lorenzo repeated the name back to the man asking for 'vials' of their finest wines. "One moment." The name had struck an obvious chord with the sommelier. Lorenzo was getting better at hiding his expressions but the shock was still there. Lorenzo had been a fan of wine long before Enrico had found him and his talents. He rushed off to prepare some of their more eclectic vintages. There was a blackberry wine that was a hit back in '23 and everyone had loved the Reisling from '27.

"There you are, signore Roberts. I certainly hope you are not driving after you taste all of these wonderful pours." Lorenzo slid the now full vials over towards the man. It looked like a science experiment waiting to happen with all the different reds, whites, pinks, and burgundies sloshing in their separate vials.

"Ti sembra normale?" Enrico's lips grazed Dafne's earlobe as whispered his rhetorical question. "Mi scusi, one moment." Like water sifting through cracks, Enrico's motions were fluid as he crossed the room over to Figment's table.

"Lorenzo, I don't see the 1921 Merconi Merlot. Have a bottle brought round from my Private Tasting room. A man such as this deserves the best of treatment. However, no doggie bags, si?" That last bit was hushed and in Lorenzo's direction.

"Signore, Figment. Come to see our humble beginnings have you?" Enrico flashed the man a set of pearly whites as he grinned.

"Trascurato? No.  Qualcosa che volevo discutere con te più tardi durante la cena, quando celebriamo l'apertura della azienda vinicola.  Questo è tutto, Amore mio."

Dafne hoped she was putting off a braver front than she felt, but the last thing she ever wanted to do was put a worried look on her Husband's handsome face.  Thankfully she was saved any more chances of being questioned just then because EnricoCalabrese was always aware of their surroundings and noticed one of the Calabrese members nearby.  JackRyan had been putting in extra work recently, so it was a pleasant surprise to see him enjoying a bit of relaxation time around the winery.  Hopefully, Four and Lazon would stop by as well since they were always working so hard it makes Dafne even more tired just thinking about it all.

"Forse dovremmo dichiarare un giorno di riposo designato. So che i miei piedi potrebbero fare un po 'di riposo."

She wondered if the new Oxfords were the reason for the ache in her feet, but Dafne was distracted by thoughts of shoes when Lorenzo's voice broke into her musings.  Dafne was torn between getting up from the comfortable chair and accompanying Enrico to greet one of their fellow Detroit mafioso.  After blowing a kiss towards her Husband, Dafne leaned back in her chair even more, happy to lounge about for a bit longer.

After Four finished speaking to the outside attendants he walked inside and spoke to the ones who worked inside. He had always been in great communication with any hired help from outside the family because, well, that was his job. Everyone had been watched and vetted before they were allowed to get close to his Bosses and Four routinely checked in with everyone. He knew enough about them to keep them honest but he was nice enough that it didn't feel intrusive.

As he walked in the public tasting room he saw the leader of his family speaking with another familiar face of Detroit and Lorenzo. EnricoCalabrese had seen Four walk in and they exchanged the slightest nod in acknowledgment that would have been missed by most. Four knew this meant the Boss would be with him shortly.

Four spotted JackRyan and DafneCalabrese. He made his way over to JackRyan and embraced his fellow Made brother before making way towards the Right-Hand of the family. He approached the sitting DafneCalabrese and gave her a traditional Italian greeting fit for a family member.

"Feels good to finally see this place all the way open now. Seems like everything is running pretty smooth as well." He said as he stood back and watched the workers and crowd.

JackRyan was so happy to see so many familiar faces. Four was a man he had worked with on and off but not really to much. He was someone Jack wanted to get to know better. Also of course there was  EnricoCalabrese and DafneCalabrese. What a joy all these wonderful people from the family together at the same time. The win was splendid and the talks were fantastic.

Jack sipped on his drink and took a walk over towards Figment. He extended his hand.

"Hello there sir, I'm not sure we have been properly introduced. My name is JackRyan but you can call me Jack. Glad to have you around. This is such a great city isn't it."

Jack went back to sipping on his wine. He was starting to get a bit warmed up.

Enrico pulled desperately at the remanents of his Lucky Strike. One last plum of nicotine filled smoke exited his lungs before he tossed the spent butt to the sidewalk outside the Calabrese Wine Company. A quick glance to his insanely overpriced watch revealed he'd been down here for three minutes longer than he intended.

"Cazzo," he muttered to himself. Dafne would surely be back by now, and it was not like Enrico to leave her waiting long to see him. The Sicilian's long fingers straightened out his hair a bit as he stepped back into the familiar doors of his winery.

A few turns later, the owner stepped back into the tasting room. A few of his guards were never far behind, but they felt pretty lax here in the winery. Giuseppe had a sweetheart named Pauline who liked to sip on free wine that Enrico would overlook. The don knew it was a small oversight to keep a man who'd already proven his loyalty.

"Il cielo è sceso sulla terra per abbellire il mio bar con la sua bellezza," Enrico breathed into DafneCalabrese 's ear as his arms wrapped around her from behind. His right hand instinctually went to her belly searching over it in hopes of a kick from the little Calabrese growing within her. He placed a kiss just below her ear as he delicately spun her around to greet her with a smirk.

"Come stai?" Enrico said to her as he looked her up and down. He gave her a wink before throwing his hand towards the bar.

"Merlot, Lorenzo. Grape juice for the signora, eh?" He said with a chuckle. Enrico led Dafne to their familiar booth off in the corner.

"Ho pensato di assumere una band per la Tasting Room." He said as he gazed over into Dafne's hazel eyes. Enrico brushed a few stray strands of hair and tucked them behind Dafne's ear.

Despite the coolness of the weather in Motor City, Dafne was enduring a slight hormonal heatwave all over.  One by one the buttons on her overcoat became open then with a couple of soft grumbling moans the coat was gently tossed to Cassidy as the two walked into Calabrese Wine Company.  She already felt heated with the long-sleeved, emerald velvet dress, but the temperature in the establishment had her regretting the long sleeves the moment they set foot inside.  Perhaps Lorenzo had a small fan she could use in the back.

Heading towards the Tasting Room, Dafne gave a gentle wave to the gentlemen at the bar then placed the hand on her lower back as she kept walking.  The movements, however, put an emphasis on the small protruding bulge that has been barely noticeable until the past week or so.  Dafne placed her other hand over her growing belly as if to soothe and comfort while an ever protective gesture.

Once she reached the Tasting Room, Lorenzo came from behind the counter to inquire if she wanted anything to drink or eat.  Dafne declined anything for the moment which earned an arched eyebrow from Lorenzo, and even though she couldn't see his face, Dafne was confident that  Cassidy was shocked as well.

"Stai zitto.  Sto solo aspettando di mangiare perché sta arrivando il signor Calabrese. Ho fame, quindi non preoccuparti."

Dafne found a seat at the bar and was thankful for being off her feet.  She had recently stopped wearing any heeled shoes at Enrico's gentle 'request'.  She was ever graceful when she moved, but Dafne didn't wanna take any chances either, so she heeded her Husband's suggestion.  The moment EnricoCalabrese entered the Tasting Room, Dafne could just sense it.  That Man radiated Dominance like no other on earth, and when He wrapped His arms around her, Dafne leaned back against Him willingly.  Enrico's words caressed Dafne's ear as much as His tender embrace around her frame, and when His hand sought out her tummy, Dafne smiled.

"Penso che la nostra bambina si nasconda da suo padre. Ogni volta che mi tocchi la pancia, lei smette di calciare."

She placed a hand against His cheek when Enrico wanted to know how she was feeling.

"Sono la signora più felice del mondo, Il mio Re. Mi sento solo un po 'caldo oggi.... E anche fame."

The Calabreses seemed to have a little game of what their baby would be because Dafne insisted it was a girl while Enrico countered with saying it's going to be a boy.  Family and friends all had their ideas of which it was going to be based on how she was carrying, but Dafne really didn't care which because it would indeed be a small piece of heaven in their arms to hold.  Before Lorenzo left for the wine and grape juice, she smiled at him asking for that promised snack.  Once he left to sort all that out, the couple relocated to their favorite booth where Dafne gazed into her Husband's emeralds getting lost in the sea of beautiful green until He spoke snagging her attention back to the present.

"Una band sembra un'idea eccellente."

With a soft sigh and slight frown, Dafne mumbled softly into Enrico's neck.

"Non sarò in grado di ballare presto. Sembrerò una balena sulla terra ferma!

He knew when he arrieved he was likely to find EnricoCalabrese sitting close by DafneCalabrese likely sipping on the finest wine. Tonight was a night he was also hoping to see his friend Four. Jack walked in and sure enough what he was assuming he would see was right there in front of him.

Jack went towards a table and took a seat.
