The Swinery Started by: Four on Jan 16, '20 19:32

After negotiations and remodeling were over Four sat inside of the new but yet old establishment for the first time. He did this completely alone. Living in solitary and silence was the norm for Four. Before joining this lifestyle he had never relied upon or worried about anyone else and the shadows were his only friend. His years walking the rooftops had taught him how to survive but it was Enrico and Dafne Calabrese that taught him how to care for others. Reflecting on the past few years of his life he was in amazement that he owned a shop for people to come into. A place where he would have to interact with the locals. Most importantly this was the place that allowed him to showcase his very desirable skills of dismembering anything that had meat and, maybe, bones. His years fending for himself had made him an expert at butchering any animal alive. Although he had not taken many lives in his lifetime he had disposed of enough for him to be known as the go-to guy around town when you needed someone to disappear. His time in the sky had allowed him to see things no man would ever want to wish upon their enemy. Seeing these things numbed him to the point where he was also known as the guy to extract any information from a person before they were disposed of. He was trusted because he didn't like to talk much. He had this look about him where you weren't sure if he knew everything about you or knew nothing about you at all. These traits made him valuable to the Detroit Mafia and now he was entrusted with running a Butchery which acted as a front for the real work.

He soaked in the silence and knew this was the last time he would enjoy moments like this. It was time to shed his old persona and now become another face of an organization that had planted its roots here in Detroit. He looked forward to this change. It was somewhat comforting. As he sat there two young men pulled up in a shipping truck. You could tell by the markings they were from Calabrese Wine Company. He wasn't told about anyone coming over but he figured it was probably another disposal job. Four impatiently waved his finger around in a circle signaling the youngsters to pull around the back. How idiotic could they be to pull up to the front of the store with work in the back? The youngster in the passenger seat began to get out and Four started walking towards them.

"Hey Boss, we have a special delivery from the Winery. This is directly from EnricoCalabrese and DafneCalabrese and they told us to bring it in the front for you." The youngster spoke, voice slightly shaking because of Four's reputation. The youngster led Four to the back of the truck where the driver was already opening the doors. Four turned the corner to see in the back he let out an easily missed chuckle. There stood a wine rack fit for a king. Made of beautiful wood and elegantly designed. Both lightweight but extremely sturdy. He recalled DafneCalabrese looking at the wall that was near the eatery area one day when remodeling was about to wrap up. He knew exactly where to put it and was sure if it was in any other location he would get an earful. Her taste was impeccable and Four could always rely on her to bring a sense of elegance to any situation or establishment. Four gave the youngsters instructions on where to put it and they got to work immediately.

While they were unloading he pulled a hand-rolled cigarette coupled with matches out of his shirt pocket. He lit it up as he looked up and down the street admiring his city and neighborhood. Looking at the different establishments and faces he took a minute to absorb this moment. The youngsters came back to Four telling him the job was done. Four reached into his pocket and pulled out a few loose bills. Handing money to the driver first, Four then turned to the passenger and handed him the rest. The passenger politely declined and nodded his head to Four.

"Thanks, Boss but I already received payment from EnricoCalabrese. He also told me that you were going to need some help around here and for me to stick around and work for you. Anything you need from me?" Four looked at the youngster and knew immediately that EnricoCalabrese seen something in this kid and he would be expected to groom him.

"What's your name?" Four asked the youngster as the driver began to get in the car and drive off.

"Gioele but people just call me Gio sir."

Four approached Gio, slid the cash into the youngster's exposed shirt pocket, and placed his hand on his shoulder. "Just sweep up, for now, I'll be in in a moment." He said slightly guiding the youngster into the direction of the shop entrance.

Four took the last puff of his cigarette and dropped it on the street before crushing the remainder with his shoe. He looked up at his new shop with the last little smile he could spare for the day. Nice open windows in the front with a few chairs and tables because he liked to sit outside when possible. From the outside, you could see the entire interior of the establishment that was was open to the public. On the left-hand side behind the glass, you could see large chunks of meat hanging with smaller cuts of each on a tray underneath.

Four walked into the new shop and admired the layout and design. Immediately to the left was the beginning of the butchers counter which worked its way in the shape of an L almost to the far right wall. Around ten feet directly in front of the entrance was the cash register which allowed for a slight flow of customer traffic. This would help customers avoid being crammed at the entrance while they selected their meats. To the far right along the wall was the new and beautiful wine rack with Calabrese Wine Company elegantly written on the top in large letters. Slightly in front of the rack were several chairs and tables each small enough for only two people to sit and eat. This wasn't a place that was going to be known as a restaurant but it would be able to sit a few important people or customers if needed. Meat hung almost everywhere the public didn't have access to but it looked appealing and not sloppy.

Behind the counter, you could see double doors that locked. That was probably the most unusual part of the establishment. The doors each had a small circle window but they were high enough the average person couldn't look through them without standing on the tips of their toes. On the counter near the door, there was a radio that was playing the local station. It didn't matter if it was musictalking, or static it was always the same station.

Four stepped into the back behind the double doors and spotted Gio organizing the storage area to the right. On the left-hand side, the meat delivery was just wrapping up with the workers loading the last few carcasses into the decent size walk-in freezer. Four turned to his left where his desk was and reached below it into the safe. He pulled out a few thousand dollars and paid the delivery guys. He turned back around and called Gio over.

"Head back to the winery. We need to get enough wine to fill the new display up so take the truck in the back. Make sure you put gas in also." He said and handed Gio money. Four then made his way to the front. He propped the front door open and returned behind the counter where he put on his apron. He began his therapeutic process of dismembering flesh and bones as he waited for his first customers.

The rumble of the green and black Lincoln KB's twelve cylinders died down right in front of the Swinery. Enrico took a moment to savor the last long drag from his Lucky Strike as he stared over at the newest establishment on 12th Street. "Ultimamente ha lavorato sodo. Sono contento di vederlo godere di alcuni dei benefici dei suoi sforzi. Questo posto vedrà molti corpi," Enrico mused out loud as he admired for a moment just how well his crew had begun to come together as of late.

"Ora o mai più, le labbra di zucchero," he said with a grin as the cigarette took to flight out of his cracked window. Enrico smiled over at DafneCalabrese for a moment with his hand gripped to the door handle. They had a habit of laughing for no reason ever since she broke the news to him back at Calabrese Pizzeria.

The crisp winter air was shock compared to the warmth of the heated car. Enrico quickly circled around to get Dafne's door and offer her a hand. "Adoro questa città, ma sarò dannato se non fa freddo." He said before reaching down into the car and grabbing a small box. The couple made their way into Four 's new butcher shop.

"Come on out, signore. I've got something for you!" Enrico called out into the back as he looked around the freshly-painted business. Four always had an eye for detail and it showed in the way he had quickly remodeled the rundown shop into his own vision- sans one addition made by Signora Calabrese. Enrico set the ornate, onyx box with an engraved '4' on the butcher's counter.

"I figured you would be able to put this to good use." The man couldn't help but open the box and take one last peek at the gift before Four saw it. The custom made Beretta M1923 looked stunning. The black gun was beautiful, the iron sights had been tipped with platinum, but the real eye-catcher was the cherry wood grip. Enrico had a man back in the old country etch the Calabrese family crest depicting a vineyard. The result was one of a kind.

Enrico quickly shut the lid as to not spoil the surprise for his friend. "Sto dando all'uomo uno strumento di morte in una macelleria." Enrico said with a glance over at Dafne. He chuckled and shook his head at the notion.

With a soft grumbling string of Italian, Dafne pushed the hangers to the left then a few to the right.

"Niente da mettere."

Without delaying any further, Dafne chose one of the black Chanel dresses she favored then hurried to get ready before EnricoCalabrese came looking for her again.  She was never late for anything, yet recently she was having a few 'blonde' moments everywhere she turned.  Hormones must be making her frazzled because there was no other reason for it all.  Dafne was feeling off her game, and she didn't like the emotional upheaval that was being unleashed.

Dafne attempted to tuck the loose strands of hair back but they were destined to stay loose.  She quickly collected the clutch then made her way to where Enrico was standing holding the gift for Four.  Her own gift had been delivered before Four's grand opening of the Swinery because it was too big for her to carry.  Enrico and Dafne pondered what to do to show their recognition of all the hard work Four had done since the very beginning, and Dafne had selected a beautifully designed wine rack.  On special order, she had the Calabrese family crest engraved on it, the detailing of their vineyard back in Palermo amazed the Calabreses when they saw it.

"Sono qui. Sono qui."

On the drive over to the Swinery, Dafne kept placing her hand over her stomach, at times without realizing that she was doing so.  She was lost in a daze of daydreaming when Enrico's teasing words caught her attention.  After Enrico came round to assist her out of their Lincoln KB, Dafne stood on the sidewalk for just a moment then she tugged the coat closed to ward off the chilly air before the couple headed inside.

Dafne wasn't sure how well the visit was gonna go for her being around all that raw meat or the smells, so she made an attempt to focus on the wine rack where Four had it fully stocked already.  Dafne couldn't resist the smirk that tugged at her lips because he put it in the same place that she was looking at on their last visit.  The empty space had cried out for something eyecatching so it worked out quite well.  Dafne turned towards where Enrico stood at the counter then smiled.

"Speravo che l'avesse messo qui."

After Gio returned from grabbing the wine they immediately filled the shelves. With the slow traffic, Four decided this was a good time to show the youngster new techniques on the craft of butchering. He was having fun teaching someone everything he knew. Plus he knew with the new expected arrival of the family he would be tasked with a lot more while the Bosses enjoyed this time of life.

Four could hear someone in the front of the shop and was delighted and surprised to hear EnricoCalabrese. He knew this would mean that the lovely DafneCalabrese was in the building as well. Although they both had hired bodyguards they at times seemed like they were each other's bodyguards. Truth be told they were the only protection each other needed.

"Finish up with this one then I want to see you gut the other two. Don't forget we don't want any of the insides pierced. We use all parts of the body here." He said to Gio as he handed his tool to the young man. He began to make his way to the front pushing open both doors. As he broke through the doors he began to take off his gloves and apron. He placed the two in their respective places before walking around the counter to greet the two.

"It's great to see you two out and about still!" He said as he quickly glanced at Dafne's stomach. Turning towards the gift she had sent him he continued talking. "You have amazed me as always with your thoughtfulness. It's beautiful, isn't it? It's a beautiful spot you picked out also." He said with a smile knowing the two hadn't had a conversation about the placement.

He turned back around towards the two and noticed Enrico still standing near a small box with and engraving meant for Four. Four let out another smile mixed with a puff of air coming out of his nose. These two had already done enough to take care of him. They were, however, two loving Italians who always thought about enriching the lives of others. What the hell is in this box though.

EnricoCalabrese seen Four looking at the box and invited him over towards it. Patting Four on the back as he approached the box he didn't say much. Four placed his hand on the box and marveled at the beautiful creation. If the box was just a box it would be perfect as it was. These guys continued to outdo themselves.

Four opened the box and his head dropped with a smile as he began to slowly shake his head in disbelief. A custom piece. Not only was it beautiful but it was needed. He had been caring nothing but bullshit burners for so long that he had grown to love his work tools more than his "work" tools.

"I'm going to need you guys to stop being so thoughtful." He said as he jokingly deflected his obvious excitement. Giving the two hugs before he returned to the piece and examined it in marvel. He closed the box with the contents still inside and began to speak as he made his way around the counter. "Let me get you guys a few things ready to take with you. We have some special cuts that are fresh I think you would appreciate paired with the wine you keep in the Private Tasting Room."

As he put his apron back on he turned towards the couple and noticed DafneCalabrese looking uneasy. "Do you need some water Bosslady? A seat or something to drink? Want me to make you a quick bite to eat?" He said not sure what to offer the Mrs. He looked at Enrico with a slightly worrying look but the look Enrico gave him back made him feel a bit more comfortable.
