| 5 Things to say at a funeral | Started by: SuperKoala on Jan 20, '20 02:30 |

In this thing of ours, attending funerals is a common thing. We loose way too many people way too early, which is even though the risk we take, incredibly sad. Especially for the person that passes but also for the family. Attending a funeral is your last chance to say goodby. I think the most important reason to visit a funeral is because the son or daughter of the deceased will be there. They will get comfort from you popping in and paying your respects.
Oh and…. Don’t ever go to a funeral to be a dick. It’s incredibly disrespectful and shows a great deal of your poor character. We all have enemies here, the funeral of them is not the place to deal with your unresolved bullshit. You got something nasty to say to them? Be a big boy and say it whilst they’re still alive! |

Quite an admirable selection of appropriate suggestions following the etiquette that such a solemn situation deserves. If I may be so bold, despite the naivety of my youth, or perhaps because of it, a particular addition to your curated list comes to mind. Deaths are inevitable, as we all know, and kin justifiably holds onto them. Yet there exist occasions, rare though they may be, where a measure of mutual respect develops between rivals battered by a constant competitive struggle for supremacy. For such rivals, reminiscing on the sport of it all, should not be an alien endeavour. The public display of respect a humble victor can give to the kin of a gracious loser who doesn't succumb to petty vendettas, though difficult and painful, would not only enrich those involved but would serve as a benchmark for younger generations to follow and admire in the conflicts to come. |
