Rival's Die Hard Started by: Chris-Lucchese on Jan 21, '20 21:45

Chris was in Florida looking at a casino that he was scraping cash together to buy.  However he had competition.  Joey Eyes wanted the joint too.   Joey Eyes was a made man out of Jersey and he hated Chris.  He felt that he should have been made before Chris and Chris only got the bump because of his family name and his brothers.  Joey never thought of the fact that Chris got made because he was an earner or that he made his bones doing work for Charlie.  Joey never knew that Chris was once the bodyguard of his current Boss or that Chris was just better at making friends.

Joey Eyes was older and had been trying to get made for a while but he was not a thinker.  He could never think outside the box when it came to making money, he was a bruiser and one of the best.  He made his money by taking over someone elses operations and he would forced them to stay and manage the place and if they left then that pipeline ran dry or the flow was a lot smaller.  Joey wasn’t good at picking out talent but he knew how to put a hit together and was successful at it.  The two of them were both tall and in shape.  Nevertheless Joey struggled with getting a dame but once he did; she was his because he spoiled her.  Most of them remain with him out of fear.  Joey was known to hurt his girlfriends family members if they did something to anger him.

Joey had the backing of Victor Zamboni a real old school boss out of Pittsburgh.  It was Zamboni that called Joey up from the minor leagues.   Zamboni had long dollars and was very greedy and when he would loan money to members of his family he expected a seventy - thirty split and yes you kicked up your tithes and offerings to him off the thirty percent.   Zamboni was quick to punish for failure yet he rewarded success.  Zamboni was fronting the money for the Casino with Joey as the operations manager.  The Casino was small, however it made five to six million a month and Joey’s job was to kick 10 percent off the top to Zamboni and use the casino to clean the families cash.

Chris was planning to do the same thing only the skim went to himself.  He would use this place to clean money for other families for a small fee of 5% because they had to pay federal taxes and mobsters hated that he also would use it to funnel clean money as bribes to local and federal politicians.  Chris was thinking about tomorrow which Joey didn’t seem to worry about.  Chris had the cash but he wanted to be sure the placed did make money and that there were no other issues such as leans or silent partners or shotty construction or harassment for the Fort Lauderdale Police who was in the pockets of the Florida mafia family also known as the Trafficante family.

Joey was always shadowed by Cheech, Cheech was six foot six and had the shoulders of a linebacker.  Cheech could have been a professional football or wrestler but he choose busting heads for cash.  He was violent and loved what he did.  Cheech was known to go overboard but Joey knew how to control him and set him off.  Cheech wasn’t much of a thinker he was offered a chance by Chris to become a professional boxer but Cheech listened to Joey and became his bodyguard and driver making more money then Cheech first fight would have been worth.  Cheech couldn’t see the big picture if he could he would have dumped Joey.

When Joey got word that Chris was going to look at the Casino he quickly ran to his boss and asked to borrow the money to purchase it himself.  Zamboni altered the deal and made joey a partner instead.  While Chris went to Charlie and Mr. Trafficante about the joint.  Joey made the offer and give the man cash and the deal was done.  Mr. Trafficante couldn’t find the previous owner to collect the money that was owed him so that became Joey’s debt and now his thirty percent became ten% which he had to kick up to his boss.  Joey was able to see that he was already short, he had to pay back the loan for the casino and what he needed to kick up to his own boss as tribute.  So he would skim a little extra to make up what the payments and some for his own pocket.

Chris was a little sore that he lost the opportunity to purchase the place but he had a plan to end this unnecessary rivalry.  He and Whispers along with Peanut , Abe, Icepick Joey, Mickey, Noodles and Recco were going to rob the Casino.  Chris would be in the casino playing roulette Whispers would be watching his back.  Peanut would be watching the cars.    The rest of the guys Joey Eyes and Cheech never met before they would do the stick up.  Abe and his girlfriend would  pose as out of towners single she would cosy up to the security guard at the door and get to know him for the next three days then she would accuse Abe of stealing her chips.  The guard would be focused on them as Icepick and Recco make their way into the vault room as the staff members making a drop only they were making a withdrawal. Recco would crack the safe and Icepick would be on guard and keep the booker quite.   Mickey would get into a fight with Cheech at the front of the Casino while Noodles would set of the fire alarms and rush the vault if Recco and Ice pick were taking to long.

They needed to do it a day before Mr. Zamboni came to collect his money and see the casino for himself.   When Mr. Zamboni realized that the casino has no money to pay its winners and himself he will blame Joey Eyes and Joey would take a nap with Cheech at his side.  Chris would have money to enjoy and become partners with Mr. Trafficante.  Mr. Trafficante would talk Mr. Zamboni into selling the joint to Chris and Chris would kick up the twenty percent for life to Trafficante for protection in Florida and Chris would clean five million a year for the Trafficante family at no charge. Charlie and Myers would also get to clean five million each as a thank you.

The plan went off but with a few minor hic-ups.  One the fight lasted a bit longer as Mickey didn’t like the thought of losing so he put everything in him into winning.  He ended up with a broken jaw and two broken ribs and Noodles had to help him beat down Cheech.  Abe had to force the guard into the vault room and then strip the guard uniform off and wear it along with Recco and Icepick who had the uniforms on already. It also took Recco awhile to open the safe.  They had to tie the half naked guard up with Abe’s girlfriend pantyhose.   Mr. Zamboni came a day earlier and saw the entire event at the front.  Then Chris had toss the money he was winning in the air to cause a rush to prevent Joey from leaving the area.  The fire alarm went off and Joey got knocked out by a woman rushing past him with her flinging purse.  As the boys made their way out the back.

Peanut was watching the two cars but he didnt park the getaway car for the cash in the back.  So the guys had to steal a car and load everything into the trunk.  When Cheech walked to the roulette table Chris was helping Joey off the floor as Zamboni was walking up with his three goons.  They took Joey and Cheech to the vault room while Chris went to the bar followed by Peanut and later joined by Abe and Recco who were now in their own clothes.   A few minutes later Joey was walking out followed by one of Zamboni’s guys who had his hand on his suit pocket following close behind Joey. Cheech was behind that guy another one of Zambonis guys was walking behind Cheech who like the first guy hand his hand in his suit pocket following close behind Cheech.  It was about a week later that word circulated around the streets that Joey Eyes and Cheech were somewhere in the glades inside a few gators.  Two weeks later Chris purchased the Casino from Mr. Zamboni who paid Mr. Trafficante what was owed by the original owner.  Mr. Zamboni then sold the Casino to Chris recovering half the money it cost him to buy it for Joey.  Chris caught up with the old owner and took the money with interest that was owed to Mr. Trafficante only he kept that to recover from his purchase of the casino.  when it was all said and done Chris got his casino of all three hundred bucks out of his pocket.

It was 1926 and Chris was walking through a tenement building looking to see if it was worth buying.  Vic Duranti was looking to turn it over to Chris for twenty cents on the dollar as payment for his debt.  He looked at the place he saw the clothes line on the rooftop.  Each apartment has one bedroom and a small kitchenette.  The bathroom was down the hall at both ends on each floor.   Duranti was Italian from Naples and he needed cash to get out of town and selling was the only cash he would have to escape.  Chris knew that Duranti owed others and this building made very little profits as half the people could be without jobs at the drop of a dime.

Chris knew that Duranti had a nice home on the lower east side of Brooklyn and he had a beautiful wife that he treated like crap.  Chris walked all six floors and noticed that every apartment was full and in need of repairs and Chris was not one to be a slumlord.  This tenement was one of three and Chris was going to look at all three.  They drove around to the other two buildings and it was more of the same.  The neighborhoods were all in the ghettos of Brooklyn and Queens.  Chris knew the balance sheets of what Duranti made over the last three years as he had his attorney look over his earnings kept at city hall.

Duranti owed Chris ten thousand dollars and he was willing to sell the three buildings to Chris for twenty five thousand the buildings generated Duranti seventy thousand each year for the last three years.  Chris stood next to his car looking up at the sky and looking at the block it was crowded with new stands and fruit vendors and shoe shine boys and pickpockets and stores and mom and pop shops.  Chris knew that if he cleaned the buildings he could raise the rent a few bucks and use these slums to clean his money.  However he had no plans to pay Duranti.

Duranti was one of the men that pointed a finger at brother Stefano.  He was the last one still alive as the Lucchese’s always finish their vendetta’s.  Duranti had his paperwork at his home and Chris followed him their.  Once they arrived Chris saw Abe and Recco there waiting for Chris to give them the signal.  Chris walked into the home of Vic Duranti and saw Helen Duranti his wife and two little daughters Sandy and Mandy.  Chris smiled at them and gave them both a cherry lollipop.  Then he looked into Helen’s eyes as she took them into the back yard to play on their swing set

Duranti was a sneaky fellow that liked to gamble and play with other men wives.   There were several local men in the neighborhood that hated Duranti for various reasons.  They collected money to hire a contract killing of the man and it fell on Whispers lap and he took it to Chris and that was it.  One of the people on that hate Duranti list was his wife.  With someone that close to him willing to dispose of him it was fruit ripe for the picking.  Chris sat at the dinner table as Duranti pulled out the documents.  Chris asked about the house and Duranti told him that it belonged to his parents and that it was given to him when they went back to Naples to retire.

Chris asked was his wife’s name on the deed but Duranti smiled and told him no that he wasn’t that crazy in love.  Chris asked was he willing to sell the house but he wasn’t.  Chris looked over the deeds to the three buildings.  Chris walked over to the window and looked over towards the car with Abe and Recco and gave them a nod.  They walked into the back yard and then into the Kitchen and then into the dinning room where Chris and Duranti where sitting.  Chris then smiled as Duranti stood to his feet and asked who the hell they where they.  Chris sat in his chair looking at Duranti and never said a word as he put the deeds in his coat pocket.  Duranti looked at Chris and asked why.  Chris told him that he had to pay for his sins against his wife, his neighbors and for the death of Stefano Lucchese.    Abe and Recco walked out the front door with Duranti and that was the last time he was seen by anyone that knew him.

Chris walked into the back yard and spoke with Helen.  He assured her that house was hers and the children and the money from the sale would be delivered in the morning to her bank account.  If she ever had any trouble she can always call him and he would come to her aid.  Chris walked around to the front and drove home.

I'd be real careful and mindful about shouting the name Lucchese on these shores. Need I remind you of your demise.....
