It would make a witty and ironic headline, she mused while skipping between shoppers and dancing under the canopies of the stalls. How better to describe her death than just to quote her name. Maybe one day she would become significant enough that the words would be splashed across newspapers around the country. Or, perhaps not. The thought didn't last long, as they rarely did, though death was a recurring notion of hers considering her less than perfect health. Idling close to a baker's beige display, she smiled with feigned appeasement, satisfying the merchant with coquettish eyes for enough time for her to relieve them of their wares. "Buenosera, signore Agozzini!" The older man's face shifted, revealing the whites of his eyes which would naturally sit behind folds of leathery skin. A smile broke across the tanned features and he waved her on. She exaggerated a bow in response, arms twirling in fluid harmony with her gait. A blur of motion followed, then she continued on through the market chewing on the warm crust of a focaccia al rosmarino. There was a fantastic energy about the girl, a nonchalance of spontaneity and selfish ecstasy. She was not bashful or restrained in her interactions, just free. In spite of this, she presently appeared uncomfortable and fidgety. The last of the bread pushed between eager teeth, her gaze flitted between the surrounding faces, searching without knowing what for. Tess now needed to work hard to sedate those naturally scattered thoughts and suppress her instinctive flare. "Be normal." An accented voice mumbled between a mouthful. After all, how would she ever meet anyone in this life prancing around like a weirdo. |
