Whilst we're waiting on Grooglez, lets talk purging Started by: Grin-03 on Feb 10, '20 11:55

As my wait for a response from apparent regime mouthpiece and purge-denier Grooglez rages on, unabated despite his assurances of a response, I thought I would start another discussion to pass the time. As I have been asked by multiple people, including the former, seemingly now retired conversationalist Grooglez, about the specifics of a purge (but absolutely not the one currently being carried out by the Nifl/affiliate group), I thought I would shed further light about common tactics employed by those involved. This is going to be about witness statements and "rogues".

When a murder is carried out of an active sponsored mobster, there is usually a witness to the crime. Most of the time when a family lose a member, the hierarchy of that family will either call for a statement from any witnesses or attend the funeral of the deceased and inform the well-wishers there that "no witness statement is required".

There are two common circumstances that the hierarchy of a family will request a witness statement:

  1. Where they genuinely don't know the identity of the killer
  2. Where they actually do know the identity of the killer but have already apprehended the witness and silenced them knowing no statement will be forthcoming

The first scenario is simple and you probably don't require any further information from me about it.

The second scenario though is a favourite of purge regimes and a tactic known purge advocates, like Wolverine, are particularly partial to. This is sometimes known in the trade as a "witness statement catch" and can usually be identified by the murder happening whilst the target is sleeping, an immediate outpouring of grief from the perpetrators and a disproportionately vocal request for a witness to come forward. The main victims of this will be people over a certain age (usually 50 days), who have or are believed to have been training their gun. The beauty is that this is how you would expect your family to react if you were brutally slain by persons unknown and the goal here is to remove a potential threat and then still keep their next of kin onside.

When the regime can't apprehend the witness and silence them, the following circumstances will usually arise:

  1. A family hierarchy member will attend the funeral and state "no witness statement is required"
  2. Nobody will bother to attend the funeral at all
  3. They try to pass it off as a wartime slaying
  4. They blame it on a "rogue"

The first scenario is a common sight during a purge and it is a family's way of pulling the wool over the eyes of their currently loyal members and members of the community at large. This is to be taken at face value; it is a message that this person did something wrong and the murder was authorised. This works well on lesser known or less connected victims as nobody typically questions the murder and only the victim knows they were purged.

The second scenario occurs when the family hierarchy are too lazy to attend, the victim is believed to be so unimportant as not to require any statement from their family hierarchy or when the purge is transparent and a eulogy would be contradictory. This occurs infrequently given the negative impact an overt purge can have, but is still a tool employed by regimes confident in their own authority.

The third scenario is a useful tool in the purge arsenal and works in a similar manner to the witness statement catch, just more opportunity based. This is used to kill off members of your own family without them realising you are the murderer and is done in times of widespread murder where witnesses are either less likely to pay attention to the identity of a killer or are killed themselves in turn before they even realise what they've seen. This is usually identifiable by the lack of a corresponding death in the opposing side. You might just see a Consigliere or Boss listed in the obituaries, again they will be around 50+ days, and no purported slayer being brought down in response. The funeral of the victim will be littered with condolences for a life cut short and/or promising vengeance, all the while the regime pats themselves on the back for a job well done.

The final scenario we are going to talk about today is where a purge regime purposefully allow someone they know and trust to "go rogue". This is a particularly sneaky stratagem our purgers will employ, as it allows them to appear to be the honourable avengers of their beloved members, when in reality they have engineered the death of those self-same individuals. If you're finding it difficult to tell the difference between a hand-picked "rogue" and an actual rogue, you can usually identify them by their strange victim selection, like 50+ day old Capos, and the lack of urgency being made in hunting them down by the powers that be.

That's the end of our insight into purging for now, but if you have any questions I'm happy to engage. If you would like more information but you're (rightfully) worried about sticking your neck out, you can mail me directly or send me anonymous shit if you prefer.

And if any of the scenarios described previously sound familiar to what has been going on around here, I'm sure that is just an unhappy coincidence.

As I read your comments in the streets, it feels more and more like we are having a glimpse on what happened behind the curtains during the Curtis regime and what would happen if said bloodlines would ever get to power again.

I know you are loyal to my crew and city, so I know you don't want to happen either.

Walking out into the street, Hans rubs his chin whilst asking:

"Why do people keep referring back to the Curtis regime? A purge regime is still a purge regime, regardless of what name you give it. I'd rather understand the necessity than the inspiration for it, if I'm being honest."

With that, Hans shrugs and walks off.

Alexander_Hamilton, Curtis has been dead nearly 5 years, so I assume you mean Disorder. If you do mean Disorder and think this type of thing ended with Disorder's regime, then you're unfortunately mistaken. The current regime themselves can attest to the fact that purging of this type has been perpetrated in subsequent years and they now inflict the same upon others.

I think you're going to find that the consequences of my ever getting into power are somewhat academic, as given your vehement opposition to purging and the very necessary requirement that will be placed upon you to purge, you're likely to become a hypocrite or a corpse in the not too distant future. You're right though, as I am a loyal member of your crew, I don't want that to happen.

You talk a out purging like it only happens with certain regimes, this has happened for as long as I remember. My father and my father before that has seen purges happening. There would be catch up meeting to see if we had found certain bloodlines they did not want to be able to build. I'm not saying I am a fan of purging but it does serve a purpose, you believe if someone gets a big enough gun they are going to kill you, you have two choices you either try to give them a chance and risk getting shit in the back or you end them and save yourself for another 50 days

It does start to blur the line between whats legal and what is gonna get you sent to federal jail.It is understandable to take out a potential threat but where does it stop? how many bloodlines would be killed simply because you killed his father and see them as a threat? It gets messy fast and is hard to police.

Furious still cant get all this talk about purge, he hoped it sooner than later will stop and that this grin stops thinking so much about this and goes on in his life and try to have fun instead of keep on purge himself to much.

In the correct place now....ooops!

I am with Javier in believing that purging as described by the illustrious Grin-03 is false.  Indeed, unless I have missed some subtly sprinkled sarcasm, I also believe in Santa Claus and the tooth fairy.

Of course this is how it happens, whether it’s purging or its (allegedly) less tolerated cousin, bloodlining.

Everyone knows it goes on and everyone knows how it happens.  If someone out there thinks this is an inaccurate description then they have never had that experience of losing friends, colleagues, city members to it.  For my two pennorth though, I prefer option 4.  Grab some trusted guys, load up on quad CAs, take the shot if you catch the witness then maybe private fly back out.  If you don’t then you blame it on “the rogue”.

p.s. I do love Grin telling it how it is!
