"We all know them." She mused to herself, idly wandering through the crowds, unaware anyone would be really listening. "And what makes them special is that we feel we're the only ones who truly appreciate them... those close to us, those who experience them with us. "Lightning in a bottle moments, something you could never predict to happen, and if you tried to force it, you'd fail. We all have our own, don't we? Be it that group who came together and fought against unspeakable odds, and won. Or that ancestor if yours who ruled without challenge, and was loved for it. Or that person you pretended to be, just to escape life, and ended up creating something unforgettable. Or a story told across generations, which wasn't planned and nobody knew where it was going, but you all made it work. Or maybe it just the fun you had with a rag tag group of friends, on a pier somewhere on the east coast." She smiled coyly, her eyes following a pattern in the paving stones. "Those moments are important to us, and no matter how brooding or dispassionate you are, you still have those memories that make you smile, make you long to repeat. "Well, I'd like to hear them, I'd like to know when you or your family found themselves in a moment like that and why it was relished so much. I'd like to appreciate your favourite moments in this world, and give others the opportunity to do the same." |

"Ya know," Dom started as he lit a cigarette, taking a puff before continuing. "My pops wrote somethin' in a journal about a pier back east... Some long boardwalk off'a Race Street or somethin' or other. I dunno. It's been a while since I read those. From what I remember though, he was happy. Wrote a lot about some broad named Tara, an' how she ran tha place wit' an iron fist. Didn't take shit from nobody... 'Cept maybe tha one they called Mezzo. Pop's wrote they was a thing... Tara an' Mezzo I mean." He chuckled, puffing away. "Mentioned a few names in there. Some Bowden fella liked ta rough people up. Ran some underground boxin' thing. Wish I coulda met all of'em. Seems like a good bunch." Taking a moment, he stared at the ground in thought... "But what I think hit's me tha most, Tess?" Looking up, he smiled at her. "I read stories an' histories when I was searchin' for my pops. There been these people in Detroit... La Famiglia Gato, an' after Don Gato's death, Tha Paragons... Those two groups. I tell ya... Their stories been an inspiration since I was little. Sometimes I still go back an' read through tha annals of history. I feel that woulda been my lightnin' in a jar moment... If I'da lived back then." Shrugging softly, he nodded to Tess before looking around for anyone else. |
