Devante was in Boston visiting his uncle Edward Trafficante. Edward was a local banker that had nothing to do with the criminal world. Edward worked hard to hide the fact that he was related to Santo. He went by the name Edward Jones and enjoyed his family and the life of an honest tax paying citizen. Devante understood why his uncle wanted to live that type of life. No looking over your shoulders, no worries about the government coming for you. There wouldn’t be anyone wanting to take you for a ride. He could play with his grandchildren and live to an old age with his wife. To die surrounded by loving family members. His uncle made a successful career in investment banking. However Edward needed Devante’s help as he knew that Devante would not do anything overboard and yet he would do just enough to make his point felt. Edward asked Devante to come into his den and poured them both a Irish whiskey. Handling Devante a glass and then sitting across from him. There was a fire roaring in the fireplace and Edward was staring into it. Devante sat there in a mahogany leather bound chair. Devante was in deep thought himself as he also was looking intently at the fire. Then Edward began to speak starting with small talk then moving into the reason he asked Devante to visit.
Edward needed Devante to talk with an Irish gangster that was trying to recruit Edwards son David. David was a tall strapping young 19 year old that was good with his fist and quick on his feet. Edward liked the idea and wanted to work for Santo in Florida. Edward then told Devante that he wants his son to stay away from that type of life and come and work with him. Devante looked into his whiskey and took a final sip. Then he told his uncle that what could he possibly do he wasn’t into those things. Edward stood up and refilled his glass and then refilled Devante’s and told Devante that he knows the truth that he knows that Devante’s mother which was Edwards and Santo’s sister and Devante’s father were grooming him to take over Devante’s father businesses just as Santo’s was doing with his son junior. Devante never did not object; he only gave a half smirk and then looked up at his uncle. Edward then told Devante that he recalls that when Devante was seven his father gave him a pistol to shoot his dog who was dying. That Devante stood up, walked over to the dog hug the mut and gave him a pet on the head. How Devante looked back at his father with red eyes that seemed like a plea for help. That Santo’s at that moment made a two hundred dollar bet that you wouldn’t do it. Your father took that bet and smiled at you. How Devante turned and shot the dog in the head killing the mut instantly.
Devante looked up at Edward and told him that he loved that fucking dog and it wasn’t a mut. Edward then told Devante that the point was that it was then that everyone knew that you would be exactly like Devante’s dad and Santo even knew that you were someone that would be someone to keep on his side to help his family if and when the time came. Devante looked at Edward and gave him a nod, Then told him that he wasn’t into that line of work. Edward looked at Devante and told him that his mother was his sister and he taught her about banking and investing and that he knows that the money that they have has to be ill gotten gains because no one has thirty consecutive years of successful growth in any business. That he was no idiot. Devante finished his whiskey and stood to his feet and again replied that he was never in that type of business but he would help talk with his cousin and if need be offer the Irish boss something to go away. Edward told him that he offered him fifty thousand but he was rejected. Devante nodded and then told his uncle good night and went to his room to retire for the night |

Devante sat at the table at seven am and he was eating toast, scrambled eggs, bacon and coffee. The maids made breakfast for the family. The coffee was hot and he drank it black with two sugars just enough to knock the bitter taste off the coffee. He didn’t have the morning paper so he just ate and listened to his younger cousins talking and making jokes about their parents and each other. Davante was older than them all as he laughed at some of their jokes. David was there but he wasn’t making too many jokes as he was eating somewhat quickly. David had somewhere he needed to be. Devante finished up first he was showered and dressed only to ensure that he caught up with David. David finished his breakfast and ran upstairs to take a shower and get dressed. Lisa and Eric stayed at the table talking with Devante. Lisa was 17 and Eric was 16. He sat there looking at them and admiring their innocence how Eric loved sports and was a good athlete and Lisa was just drop dead cute and she knew it yet she loved helping people in need and broken people. David on the other hand had looks and was also athletic and was a very good boxer. It was his boxing skills that got David noticed and it was his quick thinking that they liked about him. However what they didn't realize yet was that David was not a gangster he had a soft heart. Devante was going to test that theory and use that to teach David about life like Devante’s father taught him.
David returned dressed in a suit as his father Edward asked him where he was going. David just replied to see some friends, Edward questioned him but David would reply that he wasn’t going to get in trouble, he was just going to see them and would be home for dinner. Devante looked at Edward and told him that he would like to have a little time to chat with David. However David said he didn’t have the time and Devante smiled and told him of course he did. David looked at Devante and saw that Devante wasn’t going to take no for an answer. David agreed and thanked Devante for a ride. The two men stepped outside and both of them got into the back seat of a dark blue sedan. David asked who the driver was, that he never saw him before. Devante told him that the driver’s name was Sosa and worked for him. David nodded then asked what he wanted to talk about. Devante smiled and started telling David that he understood that Daivd wanted to be a tough guy, that he was a decent boxer and that he was going around telling people that his uncle was Santo Trafficate. David replied that he was better then decent and that he was only telling the truth. Devante then told him that what Santo does isn’t something you don’t talk about that it could land him six feet under. Then he asked David about his friends; why did he picked them or did they pick him. David wasn’t comfortable with the questioning and didn’t reply. Devante smiled and Sosa laughed as Devante said so they picked you. Then Devante told him that it doesn't matter one day if he played his cards right he would one day get a shot at working for their uncle Santo. David looked at Devante and asked did his father put him up to this.
Devante told David that his father did tell him that David was hanging with some Irish thugs and that he didn’t want him involved. Then Devante said that he saw this as an opportunity to recruit. David eyes lit up like christmas lights and Devante knew that he was on target. Devante asked him if he really wanted to enter that lifestyle and did he understand what that step meant and how it worked. David then replied he knows what he was doing and that he didn’t need his cousin looking after him. Devante gave a smirk and changed tactics. He gave Sosa a nod and Sosa handed Devante a brown paper bag. Inside the bag was a small pistol and Devante gave it to David. Devante said if he wanted to become an associate to Santo he would have to earn his stripes. David asked who he had to shoot and Devante smiled and said his friends today as soon as they walked up to them he was to whack them. David asked why and was he joking. Devante looked at David with eyes that told David to stop talking and do the hit. |
