Gone but never forgotten Started by: Tails on Mar 15, '20 05:16

She was gone...  Just...  Gone.  Tails wandered the streets of Seattle searching high and low for her but the woman was simply...  Gone.  The small creature found himself absolutely lost and confused without her.  How could she just be gone?  She had been here just yesterday telling him that she'd make a mobster out of him.  Sure he found her to be ludicrous but she fed him and kept him warm and safe.  So honestly...  What was not to love?  She had found a steadfast friend in the small fox demon, and yet now she was just...  Gone.

This had been the dominant thought running through his head all day.  He had recently found his way to Chicago where he had heard rumor of others like him.  He hardly believed it to be true having found nothing but fear and violence on these streets.  But still he would once again dare to hope.  All he wanted was to find a place where he could be safe, where he could be a help, where he could find a family.  He thought he had found that in his angel from Seattle, and yet that had not been to be.  So now with her gone, he had found the need to strike out on his own.  Keeping his head down, and keeping to the shadows, Tails searched the streets of Chicago.  He was beginning to feel that this was a fool's errand and that maybe he should just return to the forest.  But what if rumor was true?  It was that hope that kept him going.  He sighed as night began to fall.  He needed to find a place to spend the night as night never was a great time to be out alone.  But who would take in one such as him?

Finding a small alcove beneath some stairs, he curled up, huddling against the back of it for warmth and security, giving one more baleful glance out into the growing gloom.  What would he do without her?  Yet even as things began to look bad, he felt her warm gaze even if it was but a memory.  Letting his eyes slip closed for a moment, he basked in the warmth.  Nodding as if in response to a silent word, he gave a small smile.  "I will...  I will become a good mobster, and I will never forget you..."  He murmured softly to seemingly no one.  Ears twitched as he curled up again to get some sleep there out on the streets, tomorrow would be a new day and perhaps the day where he would find where he belonged.  For the first time in that painful day, her absence didn't seem so painful, and hope bloomed anew.  Perhaps he too could find his place in this crazy world?  Perhaps not.  But only time would truly tell.

Walking down the sidewalk Sonic gazes of upon the neighborhood he sees over, everything seemed to be getting back to normal after the busy weekend that had taken place. Men and women helped one another in the loop to get things looking back to normal. Walking up to a local mom and pop diner Sonic picks up a hammer and some nails to replace the siding that had been covered with bullet holes. Glancing over his shoulder he couldn't help but notice Tails...

"Hey there kid, you new to Chicago?"

The night had gone fairly flawlessly despite the unrest in the city.  Tails wasn't entirely sure what was going on, and frankly it freaked him out.  But still he would brave it in his search.  Ugh...  Tails old boy?  You don't even know what you're looking for.  But still he would look.

Tails noticed that the city was bustling as people helped each other out with the rebuild effort.  Over to one side of the street, he noticed a very unique individual fixing up the siding of one of the tiny shop fronts.  Tails tried not to stare but wondered if he should approach.  But just before he managed to make up his mind the man turned to face him.  His muscles tensed a tad as he seriously thought about taking off down the alley.  It was too late, he noticed him.  His question rang out in Tails' mind.  New to Chicago?  That was where he was.  And he was new.  So he would give a nod steeling himself.  "Yes."  All the bravado he tried to pull together in that moment came out in but a little squeak.  He squared his shoulders and nodded.  "Yes sir."  He would try again.  "Do ya need help?"  Tails moved over swiftly and moved to help steady the board that Sonic was currently working with.

Giving the young fox a nod, gave the hammer a good few swings making sure the last few nails where in place. Taking step back to assure the boards were straight and steady he then handed the hammer back to the elderly folk, exchanging some words the older lady gave him a hug and kiss on the cheek. The old man and Sonic exchanged a few more words as Sonic slipped the man few bills and shook his hand. The couple walked away with smiles on there faces, waving back as they entered there establishment...

Looking back at Tails he approached the young helper...

"Thanks for the help, appreciate it ya know. We gotta look after our neighbors. Say, you mentioned you were new to the city, let me get you lunch for the help. Honest work for an honest meal."

Sonic had noticed a spark in the young fox and wanted to learn more about him, he seemed to have a strong work ethic and wanted learn more about the individual.
