| A temporary solution to quit the bickering about RP | Started by: Squishy on Apr 07, '20 17:52 |

To find a middle ground between those that want to RP about non MR things and those who do not wish to read them - the following new system is put into place so that you will only be exposed to something if you choose to view it knowing ahead of time it is not mafia related RP. Until the new version with proper forum tagging is in place, please put the following tag in your title when doing non mafia related RP in the streets and BD. (IRP) - This means INVITE RP, only people who have been invited to speak here should - but its open for everyone to read. (ORP) - This means OPEN RP, this means its encouraged that anyone join in on the RP - but be respectful to the theme and the OP. For example, a subject for a thread about non-mafia related RP could be "The Inkwell (ORP)". If your thread is non mafia related or part of the daily life of a person in the mafia, and you do not use the tag in the title, it may be removed or sent to the outside. Upper Structure - please keep your members in the know so that threads are not (re)moved. |

I want to be clear so I don't make any mistakes: IRP should be used by upper structures and the like for game announcements that really require no replies from people (announcements of new crews, protection orders, etc) ORP should be used by everyone to indicate that they are writing a roleplay (not discussion or newspaper or whatever which doesn't require a tag) and anyone can join in if they want to - provided they do so with respect to the content and original posters (ie: no randomly appearing in the middle of a scene and taking a dump on the carpet.)
Do I understand the system correctly? |

Nah. It is only for if you're doing non-mafia related RP. I assume all other RP and posts will be business as usual for now. |

Isadora, I believe both tags only apply to any street RP not related to our way of life. Like if someone wanted to post a RP about aliens, that is not part of the mafia and would need those tags. But if you posted a RP about a bank robbery that you did or something that happens in the daily life of a mobster, that would not need tags. If you needed to use those tags for a non-mafia RP, one just says its read only while the other says its open for all to respond. Announcements or anything similar to that would not need a tag. |

No Tag - Threads tied to mafia life, or the daily life of someone related to the mafia done in the theme of mafia. Tag - Threads not tied to mafia life, wanders outside the scope of normal life in the mafia |

This here would of been welcomed with open arms long ago. Shall we go thru the archives to compare notes concerning the fuck me fests? They were the quite the bore and having no relevance to the mafia. About time. |

Squishy, I hate to be 'that person', but I want to make sure I'm doing this right before I get started. So for clarification purposes, can I please get a clear definition of what 'the gods' consider "normal life in the mafia"? If I'm role-playing a character who is a part of the mafia, it seems to me that there are a LOT of things which are not directly or explicitly "mob-related" but would still seem (to me) to count as 'normal life'. To give an extreme example, grocery shopping. Let's say, purely in theory, that I wanted to explore the historical tensions and setting of the time by creating an RP thread that illustrates the draw and magnetism of mafia life by sending my character grocery shopping... exploring the juxtaposition of ill-begotten gains as highlighted by the contrasting poverty of upstanding citizens. In my mind, this is still "the daily life of someone related to the mafia" and would, therefore, be considered "tied to mafia life". However, as there is no explicit crime-related or direct family action happening, I can also see where certain individuals would classify this as a topic that "wanders outside the scope of normal life in the mafia". To circumvent this confusion, I think it would be supremely helpful to have a unified definition of "the theme of mafia." And as I can see this being a frequent issue for anyone who wishes to write story-driven RP of any kind, it would GREATLY help me to understand how you would recommend we tag the above - very extreme - example so that my future posts best fit the current solutions. Thank you in advance for the clarification. |

The theme "1930's RP" does not exist. The actions and decisions go against the 1930's. The character names go against the 1930's. Most, if not all of the writings, go against the 1930's. Even if we remove "1930's RP" the actions and decisions go against "Omerta" and how a true mafiaso conducts business. I say lets call it was it is and that's the wild wild west and who can dictate the longest. |

Lets define it as a reasonable expectation that your average person who is playing this game would find the content to be appropriate and entertaining; and fits within the spirit of a prohibition era United States..
Example: I just watched the movie The Godfather, I fire up trusty google and search for a game that fits.. The first thing I read is Japanese tentacle porn. Uhhhhh. Example: I just watched the movie The Road to Perdition, I fire up trusty google and search for a game that fits.. The first thing I read is Werewolves using iPhones . Uhhhhh. Be creative, have fun... but choose the appropriate forum or tag for your content. |
