The Umbrella Corporation Contains Manhattan Started by: Edge on Apr 09, '20 05:10

Monday, April 6th 5:00

Music can be heard playing in the background. The CEO of The Umbrella Corporation Edge stands in front of a mirror as he does up the buttons to the coat his red pinstripe suit. Every so often as the song reaches his favorite part he smiles at himself, with the same confidence and smile he had shared to many within the business world, legal and otherwise. Confidence, and determination just beaming from his eyes as he nods. At this moment there is a knock at the door. “Sir they are ready for you ” Edge rolls his eyes Taking deep breathe after one last glance at the mirror flashing another smile, before he makes his way to the door of the conference room. This a walk he had done so many times and talk with the board of the corporation some military officials and to his surprise an outside reporter. Edge wasn’t phased by this, however As clean as he appeared to the great civilian population of the fine city, Edge had skeletons buried in the closet, to be more Precise liquefied in the vats of waste his weapons facility had produced, including the last reporter bold enough to start digging into Edges past.

“Ladies and gentlemen esteemed and honorable guests pleased to have you all here. As you know this quarter has been one hell of a triumph for Umbrella Corporation. Our stocks couldn’t be higher, our investors from the private and public sectors have seen their reimbursements and continued assures that funding will remain on the high level that it has been...”

Edge continues to point out the company growth on the chart displayed on the wall as those in party listen along with by now what was something of a normal meeting. In the back of Edges mind tho, he could only begin to wonder if any of them started to suspect his ties with Koyuki and his associates. In fact many of Koyuki’s men had been working at the facility in various forms of security detail, their leader and Edge alike not trusting such a revolutionary site with just your regular run of the mill rent a cops. All in all it was by all rights Koyuki’s facility, Edge was just the happy face and the assured voice to make everything look on the up and up. It was fortunate since the partnership that things were on a positive note. Edge and The Umbrella Corporation as whole was eager for this meeting and the following demonstration to go flawlessly.

“Our research and development team especially in the bio chemistry department alone has been working tirelessly on several projects. In fact they are well on their way to curing a few known diseases, and with the help of the public thru donation I’m sure we will find ways to eradicate more...”

Edge knew that the nugget was more then enough for the reporter from the press to whip up a story about all the good being done at The Umbrella Corporation. It was only when the reporter and the board members left the meeting that the true negotiations could begin. Edge now alone with the government officials, who have no interest in eradicating  diseases, or helping their fellow man, the military’s top brass was seeking the rights to the research of a new weapon, a secret project that only a handful in the whole world knew about. “Cut the bullshit, you know why we’re here... is it ready yet?.. For a while now we have been waiting and all we hear is promises ?” Edge merely smiles at the generals request, although he could see his assistant in the backdrop shaking their head in disagreement to Edges assurances. It was true the project was almost there, this deal had been pushed back so many times that Edge feared the government might pull out entirely.

“It’s as ready as can be General, I can assure you with this weapon, no the threat of this weapon could end wars before they begin.. If you would like it’s only a small drive to the testing facility if you would like a demonstration.. my assistant can take you to the site now, the staff should be prepared.“

Edge reaches out and shakes the officials hands as they rise from their seats following the assistant out to take the short journey to where the demonstration would be made on the main site. It is only after they leave does he return to his office and loosen his tie a little whilst fixing himself a drink. He was confident the researchers had fixed the little bug, and it was ready for trials. For a moment he began to think about all the money himself and his partners were going to make, this making his grin wider. If only for a moment things seemed to have been fitting in place like a perfect piece of the puzzle, The CEO of Umbrella Corporation already celebrating early to what would be his finest hour.  How little did Edge know that the seeds have been planted, the wheels were in motion for the hour to strike its darkest..... Nobody could have predicted the ramifications for what was about to happen.

Report Post Tips: 2 / Total: $40,000 Tip

Monday, April 6th 4:43

It was another early morning, I was standing there with gun in hand outside the gate. The boss Kyoki had me on assignment playing security over at a super secret research facility located deep in Manhattan underground. It was a funded project by Edge that Kyoki had helped him get his hands on to help launder some of his dirty money. Just like any other night I was stuck outside the front entrance, the only piece of the building that was above ground. No one knew it existed, though I had to stand here outside the place. I wasn't sure if the boss was playing a sick joke on me, but from what he had told me the pay was going to be a lot more then I usually brought in so I was all for it.

I'd been here for about a week covering the place and it was always pretty quiet. I'd check clearance badges and watch the scientists and doctors coming and going for the day. None of them ever talked to me, just showed there credentials and going on inside as if they were better then me. The ones that came in wearing the surgical masks I knew to stay away from. Rumor had it they were working on some bio chemical stuff inside that was pretty serious. I wasn't interested in mutating into something I had seen in a horror film so I did my best to steer clear of them.

Being assigned a radio I never really used it other then being let known that someone was leaving and to open the gate for them on the way out. All of that was about to change very quickly and I never saw it coming...

I stared down at my watch checking the time counting down the minutes before I could go home and end this shitty shift. Getting stuck watching the gate at night was always the worst. Having to change my sleep schedule to adapt to the overnight shift was never fun. Off in the distance I could hear what sounded like a car heading in my direction. Taking my gun off safety I readied my aim just in case someone was coming up hear to start trouble. People were always coming and going at all hours of the day and night but we didn't usually have incoming traffic this early.

Standing guard with my finger close to the trigger on my fully automatic weapon I watch two black vehicles approach me. Both loaded with men in suits looking very professional. I asked to see some identification and they all showed government badges I hadn't seen before. These guys were more then qualified to be going inside and I appreciated them working with me and not giving me a hard time about processing them. When I scanned the drivers badge it brought up his name and qualifications, he was a cia operative working for the president. I couldn't imagine what someone like that would be doing here, but I had no clue what was even going on inside never let my curiosity get to me. This guy was the first of his type that I'd seen coming inside and there had to be at least eight or nine of them. One of them in the second car looked like a doctor. I couldn't get the best look as they drove past me and entered the building after they parked. One of the men was carrying a type of briefcase I had never seen before, it was large and looked like it was made of an indestructible material.

The time passed and the sun had started to come up as my shift was coming to an end when I heard a small explosion. It shook the ground underneath my feet and felt like an earthquake was going off. It must have happen in the research facility and that was troubling to me. I had no idea what was about to take place or the severity of that blast. In a matter of about sixty seconds I watched a fully loaded multi story building become completely evacuated. Everyone was running for there lives and the look of terror was making me question things. The obvious was to run, but I was there to help. Being the lead in security I had to make sure I could get as many people out as I had to that might of gotten stuck inside. It was just then that Edge came over the radio unexpectedly.

"Roman, it's Edge. If you haven't gone inside yet then don't! Your not properly protected and I have the gear in my car let me through the gate!"

Just as I had gone for the handle on the door to pull it open I was stopped dead in my track by Edge. He was the one running the operation and he knew best. I turned back and headed for him as he was being driven in by another black car with more government officials. Once he got out of the car the look alone on his face explained the seriousness of the situation. He apologized to the men in the suits as they weren't going to be allowed inside. He handed me a hazmat suit and told me to put it on as quick as possible. We needed to get inside as quick as possible and he said he would explain as soon as he could. Frantically he takes my gun from me and hands it to one of the men in the suits and asks them to take guard. I didn't even have time to laugh as things were moving so quickly. The guy looked like he had no clue what he was doing holding my gun.

I went for my side arm as I entered the building behind Edge, he already had his pistol drawn as well. I wasn't as familiar as he was with the place so I let him take lead and did my best to keep up with him. Once we were inside he took off down a long hall at a dead sprint and I chased after him through a set of double doors. We kept running down another hall until we made it to an elevator, he was holding the door open for me and I ran in catching up to him finally. He hit the third floor and we started heading down instead of up. I stood there anxious for what we were about to do next. I was still clueless to the severity of the accident and what was going on.

The elevator door opened and it was pure madness. Anyone that would of stayed to try and do anything to stop this virus from hitting the public was on this floor. These were the ones that were willing to die for the work that they had put in and they were doing just that. The ones that hadn't gotten into a hazmat suit or had there suit damaged were going to be affected immediately. Everyone was fighting with everyone, there weren't any weapons allowed inside so we were the only ones armed. You could see the ones with suits fighting with the ones without and you see the ones without the suits mutating already. This virus we were creating was something serious and would take even the healthiest of men out within a matter of minutes.

We had our work cut out for us as we had to make our way past the fighting to hit the emergency alarm. Only problem was we couldn't waste any time letting them fight it out to get past them. I looked to Edge and we both nodded to each other as we entered the room from the elevator. Round after round we each emptied a clip on anyone that looked like they were infected. This was not the time to be taking any chances as I reloaded my gun and kept firing. Edge made his way over to the main electrical area and starting flipping switching on some of the hardware. I wasn't familiar with any of it so I wasn't a help in that area so I kept guard. I could hear more people coming towards us from across the floor. I steadied my aim waiting for more of them to show up, firing one round after another as they got close. We were running out of time and neither of us had enough round to take down all of the infected employees. I kept firing until my gun ran out of round, at that point Edge threw me his gun as he kept working to put everything into a lock down.

I kept firing and eventually ran out of the round in Edges gun as well. I drew my knife from my side pocket on my pants and fought a couple of them the hard way. Just then all of the lights turned red and a loud voice came overhead on the speaker.

EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY!

The job was done as Edge had set the final alarm. We had a short period of time to get back to the floor level so we could evacuate ourselves before it was too late. Just as we were making our way towards the elevator you could see it was blocked by the path of the infected. We were going to have to take a detour to get out safely. Edge ran behind me keeping up as I started up the 3 flights of stairs towards the top floor. There were infected running towards us as the elevator had been shut down when Edge put the building into lock down mode. The virus was really starting to take it's toll on these men and women as you could see the deformities already starting. I was terrified at the site and uncertain I was even going to make it out alive. Stair after stair I counted each one as I kept running, I'd almost made it to the top when I could hear them reaching the staircase on the third floor.

"Just up ahead, we are gonna have to go through my office. The front door is locked down where we came in and there is only one way out at this point!"

Hearing Edge shout the orders I followed him as he took out his keys and entered his office locking the door behind. With my help we pushed back a book case in front of the door we entered revealing a door that would of never been known to the naked eye. He ran to his desk and took out another key to unlock the hidden door and we headed down a long narrow hallway until we made it to another door. He unlocked the door and it lead to the outside of the building that faced the bay. Slamming the door shut behind us we were outside, but far from free and clear of this one. I stood patiently and waited for the explosion to go off as Edge got on the radio asking for the government officials to drive around and pick us up on the side of the building.

You could still hear the siren from inside if you stood close enough to the door. Inside locked up were the virus and the last of the employees that didn't make it out alive. At this point you'd think I'd be sad for the ones that didn't make it out alive, but there were so many more that could be affected by this now airborne virus. There was no telling how much time had gone by until Edge could get everything shut off and contained.

"Listen, there is going to be a lot of commotion coming out of this and I am going to need you to stick by my side through all of it. When the government people come and pick us up, let me do the talking. I have a feeling they aren't going to be the only ones we are talking to."

A line of emergency vehicles started to drive up and take care of the ones that made it out alive. Behind them were news reporters and even the civilians were starting to line up near the front entrance looking in at us. I looked over to Edge with a nervous reaction as I had never in my life seen anything as scary as what was left inside that building I couldn't imagine what the damage would be if it made it's way towards the city.

Horror, was the only word that came to Edges mind, he was now only beginning to comprehend what had just happened and the madness within the Impenetrable walls of the now safely locked down facility. The feats of achieving that alone faced with the unimaginable barbarism of those poor employees that were infected around them were indeed a long shot. Edge through many moments thought he himself wouldn’t make it out. So many close calls, so many questions of morals that by the time he had realized he was looking at the arriving delegates and outlets. He wasn’t frightened about the arriving press, the police department. When the governor and mayor had arrived in tow he didn’t not break a sweat, after all what could be said here that could even compare to what himself and RomanReigns had just gone thru.

Desensitized to the plights of those poor souls inside. Realizing that currently he perhaps isn’t projecting the most confident inmate he quickly removes the safety suit kicking it away just before the arrivals get a view of him. Fixing his tie after his hair before he steps forward into the barrage of flashes from the cameras. The governor not the media to ask the million dollar question. “ What in the blazes is going on here...?“ Edge nods for those waiting for a response validating the question before he responds carefully realizing the alarm still can be heard faintly.”

“Governor, Mayor, esteemed members of the media, as you know from day The Umbrella Corporation is nothing but a champion towards the safety and security of its employees and fine citizens to which it serves with an impeccable record. However it would seem just a few short hours ago an accident has occurred at the facility. I can assure you all standing here that we are safe. The lock down is a mere measure to assure contaminants don’t get out into the public.”

A reporter waves her hand before she begins to speak. “ Hi Jane waters the tribune, So what exactly was released a virus? “ Before Edge could answer another reporter begins to speak up “ Tom Smith The Times Is the general population at risk? “
Edge looks at the reporters for a moment gathering his thoughts, allowing them to speak over one an other to give himself more time. Truth be told he wasn’t prepared for a cloak and dagger show of such magnitude, taking a deep breathe his grin widens as he begins to prepare bud responds to the varying questions. “Have people been infected and what’s being done?” The last question from the mayor almost unnerving him. To which his eyes flash confidence as he responds.

“It is a virus that was being studied in order to curb its lethality. However even with all the measures in place it is impossible to fully stamp out human error. And an accident had occurred with one of the samples being taken out for research.”

Edge allows the crowd to soak up that bit of information, he could see the fact that something was released was so unnerving. The inquiring minds begin to whisper to themselves, fearing a follow up question Edge has no choice but to continue along with the tirade, he raises his hands urging those chattering to quiet down before he begins to speak.

“The situation itself tho is well in hand, would I stand before you as I am if there was a general threat to the public? I am not wearing any protective gear, I assure The lock down itself is just a final precaution. Those exposed to the virus have been taken to the new facility in Manhattan for care.in time a cure will be found and all those who have been infected will be saved. Which is why your continued support through this hard time is more crucial then ever.”

Edge takes a breathe, a beam of sweat dripping down his face as he thought he had steered the plane from smacking the ground metaphorically speaking. The unnerved looks and the concerned chatter had died down with Edges words. Edge was now thinking of how he would explain the various going ons starting to happen within the city itself. With each word spoken by edge vehicles with the Umbrella Corp Logo were hitting the streets, from a birds eye view looked like rows of tiny black ants emerging from the gates of The Manhattan Facility. With a grin Edge began the conclusion.

“I can tell you all now that The Umbrella Corporation is doing all it can to ensure it’s claims of a virus free city are not smudged. Don’t be alarmed folks if you see Umbrella Corporation teams in the streets of your neighborhoods. There presence around us merely there to test the air quality and ensure that everything is as pure and as fine as it always. After all life is our business and forever will be so. Thank each of you and god bless.”
