Underrated drummers Started by: CommissarKuku on Apr 12, '20 11:10

I think that drummers, the heartbeat, of any band are often underrated.  Added to that that many drummers are themselves underrated, and we have a situation that demands redress.

This is a safe space to discuss drummers that haven't got the recognition that they deserve.

I'll start....

LUKE GOSS

The drummer from 1980s pop sensations Bros - often seen as no more than someone who was lucky to be the singer's twin, I think his drumming was underrated - not overly sophisticated, but solid, and inspirational in many ways.

Luke also had a good singing voice and is a gifted actor.

Don Henley of The Eagles, man he was such a good drummer and used to sing pretty well too.He was not appreciated as much as he should have being a key vocalist in the band and being a great player with those great fills and beats.

Fucking Bros, lol.  Showing your age there man.......

Chris Adler, probably not underrated but worth a mention, immense drummer.

Meg White and Phil Collins, both underrated.

Report Post Tip

Both Roger Taylor from Queen and the Beatles own Ringo Star tend to be under rated.

For what it's worth, I think John Bonham and Keith Moon are overrated.  Particularly Moon - his style is cymbal heavy and scattered.

Guns 'n' Roses first drummer was underrated.  So was Oasis's - Tony McCarroll wasn't technically gifted, but he was what was needed for Definitely Maybe.

Mitch Mitchell is criminally underrated - he was a  huge part of the Jimi Hendrix experience

Rick Allen, aka the Thunder God, from Def Leppard....I mean, come on....one arm??? And still incredible.

Others I'd mention would be Tico Torres (Bon Jovi), Charlie Watts and Steve White (Paul Weller and Ocean Colour Scene, and brother of Alan White ex-Oasis drummer).

Randy_Marsh - Pat Bateman really rated Phil Collins, and he was not a man to dish compliments out unnecessarily.

Goldust I once fucked a girl who also fucked a guy who sold coke to Roger Taylor.  So, when you think about it, arguably I had something to do with the drum intro to We Will Rock You

Spani - I was going to criticise you for using the word great too much, but you only used it once, and well, so kudos.

@SeanCallen - any man that can drum that well with one arm is an inspiration.  But I think Steve White is generally accepted as one of the best drummer of the past 25 years, no?  And Charlie Watts - not exactly underrated.

CommissarKuku...you may be correct, but I bet if you asked people for a list of the Best drummers, neither would feature....well, apart from by people of a certain age haha

Whilst we are at it, John Densmore did great things

Dale Crover of The Melvins
Check out A History or Bad Men, dualing drums

Kieth Moon of The Who was the best of the best.

Connor_McManus - we have covered this.  He was technically sketchy, forgetful, and scrappy.  He was also a wife-racist.  Maybe you're OK with that, but I'm not.

And his name is KEITH Moon, but you are right: he was of The Who.  I wonder if he was a paedophile, like Pete Townsend, or a horrible Eurosceptic, like Roger Daltery?

You can tell a lot by who his idols are.

Report Post Tip

That’s the funny thing about opinions Kuku. None are right, none are wrong. You’re clearly in need of some attention at the moment. No one else has been dealing with you so you’re back into your troll ways. Once an asshat, always an asshat.

Report Post Tip

Connor_McManus - point out a single that I have said that is inaccurate, or trolling?

Report Post Tip

You must get really lonely when no one engages you. You’re so easily triggered. It’s actually rather sad. Enjoy your day being as lonely as you are.

Report Post Tip

Connor_McManus - you are projecting.  I detailed my criticisms of Keith Moon and The Who.  You went for the man, rather than the ball, as you are doing now.

You engage in personal abuse.  I do not.  I am a man of honour.  You are not.

Report Post Tip

You’ve never been a man of honor, only in your own head. I’m sorry that no one has been listening to a word you’ve been saying. Have yourself a great time trying to make yourself relevant. Best of luck.

Report Post Tip

Connor_McManus - play the ball.  I dare you.  Take issue with what I say, not who you fantasise that I am.
