Edward Teach was new to this land, but by no means a novice to the life of crime. In fact, crime was as natural to him as taking a breath of air. Though this land was foreign to him, it would seem that no matter where one ended up there were certain ways of life that all people needed to adhere to. This was no different here. In order to survive in this land, it would seem the first thing Teach would need to do was to align himself with an organization. Simple idea, certainly. However, one that required much thought. For should he join an organization on a whim, just to be safe, he risk losing everything in the long run. A week? A month? Perhaps two? No, this was not a decision that need to made lightly.
Teach walked the shore one hand on his scabbard, the other scratching his long beard as thoughts raced through his head. He had a small band of men sworn to protect him. Six armed men walking along his flanks at a distance. They were instructed to leave him space as he paced. The sand began to cake onto his boots, salt from the sea spray crusted the bottom of his pants, and the sounds of the waves crashing violently onto the shore were all that he could hear.
He spent the day in town prior to coming onto the shore. While in town it appeared to him quickly that his skills were not being overlooked. He met and spoke at length with a number of well connected men and women. Each offering him gainful employment within their ranks. Each offer made Teach wonder if there was such a thing as a wrong choice? They all seemed to make valid points, all offering some form of prosperity in their own way. What was he waiting for, would it ever be simple? Would it ever be a clear choice?
As he continued to walk, he thought of a newspaper he read just before coming onto the sand. There had been some massacre in Philadelphia just the other day. From what he could gather, there would appear to be a void now. One that would need to be filled soon. Teach gripped the handle of his sword and turned to the sea. He smiled as he watched the sun fall behind the horizon. This void may very well bring prosperity in it's wake. Perhaps, it was worth waiting just a little longer. Just to see if there was hope for the burning city yet. |

As the time came nearer for the ashes of Philadelphia to take shape as something new, potentially something better, Teach sensed his safety dwindling with the hour. He continued walking the shores, biding his time, and observing what was to come. There were dark figures that seemed to appear from above the sand dunes. Silhouettes that did not approach, but simply appear, observe Teach, and finally disappear back over the dunes. It was unsettling to say the least. The thought of knowing that he was being watched, and worse yet, that whoever was inland clearly had nefarious intentions.
Teach spotted a hill ahead with rocks stretching into the sea, waves crashing upon them violently. He increased his pace, as he did the dark figures appeared to follow him down the shore. They too appeared to be accelerating their pace to match his. He had his small crew of hired protection fall back behind him. He wouldn't need them once he reached the rocks. They would be of more use in the distance preventing anyone not already here from becoming a threat. Teach reached the rocks, and as he suspected there were three men in tatters coming down the hill towards him.
They appeared desperate, but not to rob Teach, it was clear that these men were after him for a need to fulfill some form of blood lust. They each bared a blade, two were daggers, and the third was a razor. Teach stood in the shallows, his back facing the rocks, and removed his sword from it's sheath. The sight of the sword seemed to send the three into a fury. They charged Teach in unison. Teach quickly engaged the nearest of the three, and with a swift swing of his sword he lopped the man's hand off. The hand still gripping a dagger splashed into the shallows. The man let out a scream and attempted to run.
Teach paid him know thought as he quickly parried a lunge from the other man with a dagger. Once the parry was complete, Teach pulled his sword back down slicing that man's neck open. His body immediately slumped into the water. The man with the razor blade was a bit more cautious. He stared into Teaches eyes, and grinned menacingly. There was about 15 paces between the two men. Teach grinned back, and slowly placed his sword back into it's sheath. The man with the razor took the bait and charged. Then calmly Teach produced a pistol from behind his back, firing one shot into the man's skull. That man's body slumped and toppled into the waves.
Teach placed the pistol back into the small of his back and looked off into the distance where the first fellow was still attempting to run. As he did, he reached Teach's men. As the man approached them, one of the men produced his pistol, and promptly shot that man in the head. Teach let out a sigh as he trudged back to the sand, and out of the shallows. This was surely only what was to come of the threats he was sure to face without being tied to an organization in this land.
His thoughts were interrupted though as he noticed that the hill had a cave at it's base. In the opening of a cave, was a man dressed in all black. He had been watching Teach for sometime. Teach walked over to the man and rose his eyebrow as he spoke.
"I surely hope those men were not friends of yours.."
Teach said once before the mysterious man. The man was SeanCallan. Teach recognized the man from a newspaper he read. The man spoke to Teach and offered him a chance at some more time. The offer was simple, Teach would gain some protection from the organization known as The Teamsters while he continued to contemplate his future. There appeared to be no strings attached, and no reason not to accept. The two men shook hands. The deal was done. |

As Teach spent his days wondering the shoreline, he realized that the dangers he had been facing from the moment he had arrived, were subsiding. No doubt in large part to his agreement will Mr. SeanCallan. His business ventures were all successful, on all fronts, and with very little resistance. His time in this land was proving to be quite the adventure. He was blessed in meeting some extremely impressive individuals, who have treated him with much respect, to which he would call a friend.
His time was spent mainly in contemplation of one simple question, to which crew he would pledge his loyalties. To which group of people he would invest everything that he had into seeing them succeed. It was a choice he knew he did not wish to rush into. He misguidedly assumed that his choice would become easier with more time. This could not have been more false. The more he spoke with people, the more people he had come to meet, and to call a friend, only made the choice harder with each passing moment.
This experiment in thought proved to come with outcomes he could not have imagined. However, one thing was true in all of this. The fact of the matter was, that without Mr. Callan offering Teach a safe haven to continue his contemplation, Teach was certain he would have died long before this moment. It was this simple, selfless act of faith that Teach could not get out of his head. Though the options before him, the various pathes, all seemed bright, it was this simple act that in the end made Teach's decision easier.
His time spent among The Teamsters was nothing less than wonderful. It was a fine group of men and women, to which he hoped to call family soon. There were others, whose hospitality and friendship made this realization bittersweet. Ms. Chyna of Detroit, Mr. ElectricMojo, and Mr. Dmitry of Seattle, and Mr. Zapata of Chicago, were notably great. Teach hoped to remain in contact with them, to see those friendships continue to kindle. Teach knew that those he met would honor his decision and respect it. That was part of what made them so great in his eyes.
Teach walked into the Teamsters headquarters, knocked onto SeanCallan's office door, and once permitted entry. Stood before his leader with a grin and spoke.
"Mr. Callan, I'm here to sign my name onto your crew. That is, if you'll have me?" |

ElectricMojo received his correspondence from EdwardTeach and appreciated the thoughtfulness in that his friend would consider him and his crew when making a crucial decision. Mojo was excited, with a hint of nerves and a splash of realism when opening the correspondence - he had a feeling Teach would remain where he was due to the safe haven he was offered at such a crucial time. Upon reading the correspondence, Mojo's realism came to pass and although disappointed, he couldn't fault his friends decision knowing that he would do the same if placed in the same situation. ElectricMojo stood behind the bar, in his Jazz Club (The Green Dot) in Seattle's Business District and folded the letter up placing it in the envelope provided, making sure it was preserved correctly; he placed it in the drawer close to a nearby cash register. He looked up at all the fine liquor at his disposal and picked out an aged bottle of Rhum Martinique, 20 years matured; Mojo only brought this out on special occasions. He picked out 2 glasses, poured and served - neat. He lit up a cigar and thought to himself "Here's to you EdwardTeach, you'll always be welcome in The Green Dot for a drink or 8. Good luck in your adventures". |
