Crime Stories I: Rules for Rulers
1. Protection: As a mob boss, there is no reason to make huge amounts of money only to have your life cut short by being stuck in prison or worse; an unfortunate acquisition of concrete shoes during a swim (wit’ da fishes!) We protect ourselves best not just with an Insane amount of bodyguards rather, only making a move when the reward of doing so substantially outweighs the risks of showing your hand. 2. Delegate: The delegation of everything even remotely illegal (or anything that may expose yourself to rival mobsters) to your underlings; if a job blows up in your face, make sure you can pin it on some random Capo who did the heavy lifting for you.
3. Reward: Sparingly, generously (but sparingly), reward success to garner loyalty and reduce the chance of one of your subjects doing some backhanded snitching on you to the police or worse-to your rivals.
4.Line the Pockets: Speaking of police make sure you line their pockets, get many of them on your side as you can get. If possible, try to spin it into an amicable business arrangement, rather than the outright (I’ll f**king kill you if you don’t accept this money and do as you’re told).
5. Assume the worst: Always assume everyone will eventually betray you, rather than accelerate the event by acting directly against them, prolong this eventuality by mitigating the risks and losses. Remember your associates are loyal to you because of what you can do for them, not what they can do for you :\
6. Individual Criminal Experience: Everyone has a unique standard for right and wrong. Align your morals along with those you work with for as long as you can. Last but not least 7. Money: Keep an offshore bank account full of money/poker chips for the occasion you need to “skip town” when things get hairy. Additionally, make sure the town you travel to has beachfronts with no extradition laws.
Commit the Rules for Rulers to memory.
(Disclaimer: Before ass-reaming this EPIC piece; consider its just part of a planned, sequential storyline with no political ties/relation to the current mafia regime)

This was an interesting piece, if I may, I'd like to unpack something that you have stated:
Does everyone have a unique standard? How can we possibly know that? Are moral standards like fingerprints? As for aligning morals, surely, as members and associates of a subculture directed by one person, our individuality is subsumed by the collective, which is directed simply by the leader? Finally, "for as long as you can" - and then what? What are you suggesting? Thanks for listening, and I'm looking for ward to "Crime Stories II: How to run a Successful Criminal Empire" |
