| Belmont Park - Horse Racing hits the stands. | Started by: Mitch on May 14, '20 21:46 |

Early morning and a man opens up his kiosk. It was delivery day, so he had to be there earlier than usual. He lifted the heavy cage and started putting the merchandise on the small shelves behind the counter. Nothing too extravagant. Cigarettes and small treats. A bicycle pulls and he's handed a stack of newspapers to populate the front of the kiosk. He unwraps the stack and carefully starts sticking them to the outside of kiosk on little pegs. The front-page story today is the grand opening of the Belmont Park Horse Racing track. "Maybe worth checking out on the weekend... " He went back behind the counter and waited for the clientele to start pouring in. |

The man jumps out of his seat startled by the sudden appearance of a person in front of him.
"What? Oh right... We sell a variety of newspapers, mainly all major editors and a couple of independent ones too." The man leans over the counter and points down to the newspapers stuck to the outside of the little kiosk. "This is everything we got." |

Mirko made his way past the man who was talking nonsense about newspapers when the real topic at hand was horse racing. His member Mitch had been hard at work getting into the gambling rackets of New York. Not something that was the easiest thing to do as it required plenty of bribes and muscle. It also required plenty of good book management with all the numbers, horses, cash, and names to keep track of. It was an impressive operation Mitch had put together... "Sorry it took me so long to meet you out here Mitch. Plenty of business in the old country and business meetings over the phone. It's become part of the norm lately with this spanish flu pandemic we've seen arise. I hope you've been washing your hands." He made sure that he was a proper distance from Mitch as he spoke. "I'm very happy with what you've put together here and I'm glad to help support the venture. Still can't believe Darius came through for me in the first race and completely blown away that Enigma didn't win his race. But that is gambling for ya..." He picked up one of the papers from the newsstand and looked at the front cover. He rubbed his chin and smirked, "Plenty of press too. I hope to see the bets start flowing in as time goes on. It's an easy thing to fit into the routine of each day. Wake up, shower, eat breakfast, pick your horse for that day's race, and shoot a gangster all before lunch. Keep up the good work." Mirko pulled out a few hundreds and handed them to Mitch... "Don't worry, I wash my hands frequently and that cash is from my personal safe." |

I rode a horse once, I was about five years old. They wouldn't let me get on the big horse, so my father sent for a very special one they called a burro. It was one of the horses built for power rather than speed, a very strong animal. For hours I rode him around the small patch of land until it was so dark outside I could not see the poor creature's head that was directly in front of me. What is the moral of this story, you ask? Well, that horse wasn't a racing horse but ever since that day with the burro I have wanted to have one in my possession. The glorious mane, powerful hind legs, and those horseshoes. Oh don't get me started on those shoes, how they gleam so bright. Sisyphus caught himself in mid-rant and stopped, swearing that he would be more concise with people he shut himself up before continuing on for another minute about how the fur feels beneath his hands. So, anyways, I was wondering, can I buy one of these beasts? Not to race, just to have. I can pay top dollar as I currently own and operate the second most profitable fast food business in all of North America. I'd even be willing to take one of the losers, I hear they don't have kind fates. He had put it all on the line, and now he just had to wait for a response. |

Mercury couldn't believe she had missed the horse track in New York. She would have to make an effort to get there. She loved betting on horses. She picked them by their colors. The chestnut colored ones. That is what she liked! There was something majestic about them. |
