Are you not afraid? Started by: Pianist on May 17, '20 02:18

When playing his last song the pianist gets up and walks towards the counter to order a drink and receive his payment, he realizes that someone sits next to him he looks in disguise and notes that it is a woman dressed in fine and expensive clothes he concludes that is an important person.

He pretends to ignore it and raises his glass to his mouth but can't help but imagine what a luxury life would be like without having to worry about bills, without rent, without having to spend night after night playing in bars and getting the same salary always miserable.

He finishes his drink and takes courage to ask:

What does an elegant woman like you do in a "bar" at this early hour? Only mafia bosses come here at this hour.

Are you not afraid?

Billie held her hand up to let her bodyguards know she didn't feel she was in danger.

"Where did you hear that? That sounds ridiculous. You played great tonight by the way. What's your name?"

She motions to the bartender for another gin and tonic, looking at this guy as he continues...

The pianist looks around and notices the many guards and asks:

They are with you?

Wait!

So you're also a bos...

Ah! How stupid I am. Of course you are too.

Well, I'm glad you liked the song.

I am the....

He looks around and shy when he realizes that people are watching and replies:

Well, I'm just the..........pianist.

He needs another gin to calm the shaking of his legs and beckons to the bartender.

Turning to the woman he asks:

And what is your name?

"My name is Billie. Do you play for private events Mr. Pianist?"

Billie notices he is looking around nervously and wonders what he is hiding. She finishes her drink and asks for another.

"So, what brings you to Chicago? It surely can't be for playing piano in places like this....."

The pianist seems interested and replies:

I would play in a mental hospital if there was a good payment.

I was raised in Detroit, musicians don't have many opportunities there after all there is a musician on every corner, so here I am playing in bars for a few dollars.

Things have not changed much.

"There's plenty of money to be made....I have frequent gatherings and we could use some fresh entertainment. Do you have a card, Mr. Pianist?"

Billie watches as he fumbles around, feeling in his pockets. She takes a couple of sips from her drink and sits it down to pull out a cigarette. The bartender strikes a match and holds it for her.

The pianist gropes his pockets without finding anything and answers:

"Well, I don't have a card, but you can give me a place and time and I'll be there to bring some good jazz to you, Miss Billie."

He slides a napkin and leaves it next to Billie's glass.

Billie takes the napkin and folds it and slips it into her purse.

" I'll get in touch with you for my next big soiree. You may even meet someone there that wants you for their parties as well."

She could see the excitement growing in his eyes hearing that news. It made her happy to know she could introduce him to some people that could make him a rich man.    She finished her drink and just as she was asking for another round, her friend Hawk walked in. She motioned him over and told the bartender to get him what he wants and put it on her tab.

he took a seat and ordered of sweet tea
I’m driving a rig today, no drinking til the job is finished.
the bar tender gave him a dirty look as he walked away mumbling to himself

So what’s happening Billie? Anything exciting I should know about?
Report Post Tip

Well since you aren't drinking....I highly doubt it.  I was totally going to get you drunk and take advantage of you.

Billie was starting to feel all the gin she drank. She motioned to the bartender to bring her the bill. She took some cash from her purse and laid it on the bar. She turns back to Hawk and asks, "will you dance with me?"
