The Drive-Thru Experiment Started by: Sisyphus on May 17, '20 19:59

He had owned many businesses in his line of work, there was the ice cream shop in Detroit and his failed finances office in Philadelphia, but this was the first time he had been offered the opportunity to really set up shop, in the sort of way that one would when they are doing more than just searing steaks or selling parchment paper. This would be his chance to actually do something big, with an entire operation running out of the back of the business, he would make thousands! Tens of thousands!

With his high hopes in mind, he began to make the calls to various businesses in an attempt to find one that would allow him to take it over. Call after call was ignored, most of them citing that they had never heard of Sisyphus before. Was he not good enough for this life of crime? No, it was just that he was calling the wrong places. During a time out in California at one of the blackjack tables he had met these two nerds with the last name McDonald, talking about how they had a revolutionary idea. While they hadn't yet set up the burger shop, he knew they were going to in the future, thus making this all very realistic for the 1930's mafia.

"Hey fellas, I'll bet you this dice roll ten thousand dollars, and if I win, I get the rights to your name."

The suckers agreed, not knowing that Sisyphus always wins his low bets. Once he had the name secured, it was time to open up a business in Philadelphia using the name. But, something was wrong. With all of his many losses at the dice table, he couldn't afford a full establishment, but a lot was cheap enough, as was the building. It was just everything else, the chairs and tables, all of the workers; it would cost him a fortune.

"A drive-thru, this way no one ever has to actually enter the building and we can use it as a headquarters."

"This all sounds very ambitious. I'm sure it will last a long time."

The plan was set and everything was now in motion, finally he had his very own drive-thru business and with that he could now run his very own headquarters. Until he lost all of his money, at least. Which should be any day now...

Jimmy has his driver take a slight detour while on his rounds to head over the Sisyphus new business venture.
When the arrived, Jimmy noticed he was first in line me went straight to the serving window and said

“I’ll have a hamburger and fries, with a large cola. And get my driver a coffee and a apple pie. Ohh, and congratulations on setting up like this on your own, your going to do amazingly”.

After receiving his order, jimmy had his driver take him back to his own crews HQ to eat and have a catch up with his own family.

Being new to this little thing we call life. I was not well versed in the ins and outs of Mob life.

I was lucky enough to get Vulcan to take him into his crew as a bigger picking pockets on the streets. I recalled that Sisyphus was a jovial crew leader and was there to help him out in the beginning also. So after I heard that Sisyphus had established a restaurant I went to pay him a visit out of respect.

They say respect goes a long way in this life of ours and I am not going to forget those who help me. I head over to the restaurant order a burger, fries, and a vanilla shake. They tell me they only do powdered milk substitute for the shakes as they don't have ice machines. I thought this was a little odd but just go with it don't want to insult the new boss.

Then I ask to meet with Sisyphus who comes out to sit on a bench with me near his business. Seeing as there was no furniture in the place. I pay my respects and tell him if he needs someone to help with a job to let me know.

I also compliment his foodservice and the "milkshake" with no milk wasn't that bad. I catch up a bit with him and wish him well in his new endeavor.

They often say that those who rise to the top have the hardest of falls, and for Sisyphus his descent would cause a 2.3 magnitude earthquake in the greater Philadelphia area. What could have possibly torn down a man who had everything? He was on the fast track to running his own city and now the McDonald's Drive-Thru had nary a visitor. Who was to blame? Could it have been Sisyphus? No, of course not. It was the manager and idea comer upper- aeugh who fumbled the plan.

"The McPizza."

Every year now more and more Americans were forsaking the slow cooked meal and opting instead to order out at fast food venues, the greasy and highly caloric pizza was one of the most popular of them all, so it stood to reason that everyone would love an even faster version of it being created for the masses, a truly capitalistic idea.

Yet much like his gut ever since inheriting this business, the profit margins sunk down below to areas where nothing should ever venture. The business was bleeding and the mega pizza and burger corporations had been attempting to push out Sisyphus from the area for days now, maybe the world just wasn't ready for a McDonald's just yet. So Sisyphus sucked up his ego and did the only thing that he could do now that he was at the bottom.

"Vulcan, I'm ready to come home."

Like a failed college student moving back in with his parents, he slunk his way back into the Ignis Domini HQ as the proud Left Hand once more. There was something freeing about having less power, something that he had always enjoyed. This would suit him just fine. However this stepping down at the highest of positions would cause such a power vacuum that the city may never recover, which is why the plan was set in motion to give Evening a simple transition into power.

With everything final and McDonald's closed, he flicked the lights to the building off for the very last time.

It was a bright, sunny day. Mercury and Michael were cruising the streets keeping their eye out for available storefronts. They were looking to open a restaurant..

I'm hungry, Mercury said. Lets swing by McDonalds. This drive thru concept was a brilliant idea.

Michael turned around and went up a side street. As they approached, they noticed the lights were off. Mercury thought this was open 24/7. After a closer look they found McDonalds had closed. What a tragedy! Why had this failed? The McPizza was terrible but they had so many other things that were great.

With a heavy heart, Mercury and Michael left. They would have to find somewhere to take away their lunch or, god forbid, sit inside and eat. She hoped, one day, someone would pick up on this concept and try again. One day ...
