Raising Hell Started by: Simplicity on May 20, '20 05:36

Sitting in the local area's speakeasy, Simplicity took a sip of her drink and glanced around. Compared to a few other's in the bar she was chump change. She was slow to start, but she do her part all the same. Her street name wasn't Simplicity for nothing, she liked things simple. Forget small talk, she threw that out the window, she liked to get to the point or to the nitty gritty without all the useless pleasantries. Forget the elaborate plans, forget the politics, and forget getting close to anyone. Keep it simple. Eventually, she'd move up the ranks, but there was no rush.

Taking another sip, she saw a gentleman walking her way. She knew he was about to ruin her lovely night by herself, her nice glass of wine, and the ability to overhear everyone's conversation. She was sent here to gather information, but a woman alone at a bar would never be alone for long. Letting out a sigh she knew this was going to happen and watched as her peace flew away. Yet, she knew if she blew him off it would probably catch some eyes. She would just try to overhear everyone while he blabbed her ear off.

"A lady such as yourself is alone? Such a waste."

The man said as he slid up next to her at the bar. She gave a cheeky smile and pretended to blush, even if she rather roll her eyes at him instead.

"My date was a bore...somehow I stumbled across this shabby little place as I was leaving."

He chuckled and puffed his chest out a little. She needed a cover for why she was in this place without rhyme or reason from the nearby family. She, in a sense, was a lost foreigner, a large target sign on her head.

"You must have been at Charley's place then, eh? Most schmucks take their dates there. Would explain how you found this place wearing such a fine outfit."

Simplicity was wearing a gold beaded dress and a gold beaded choker to match. She overdressed for the bar on purpose to match her story. Yet, in the distance she could see a group of gentlemen who had just arrived. They sat a little out of her reach and she had a good hunch that they were the men she needed to hear.

Pretending to get a bit offended by his assumption, she scoffed. Getting up from her spot at the bar she stuck her nose up and turned sharply to walk away. She then positioned herself at the opposite end, closer to the booth that the men had now settled in to. Yet, her little scene didn't deter the man. He came over to where she was and apologized.

"I'm sorry, doll. I shouldn't jump to conclusions that he was a schmuck, but if he made you leave alone, it was only safe to assume."

At this point she was just nodding and fake laughing as the guy continued to blabber away about himself. She was extremely talented at zoning people out and zoning in onto other things. Her mother always used to yell at her for doing so. Her mind was always elsewhere, but now she could use it to obtain useful information. Her disrespectful behavior could be put to use for the family that just started to give her some work. Her new family, everyone she once knew had to fade away.

The men kept talking, for hours they discussed matters she had no interest in. The man with her bought her a couple drinks, which was a nice weight lifted from her pocketbook. Yet, finally after all this time she started to hear the words she was waiting for. She grinned slightly and started repeating what she was hearing over in her head to help commit it to memory.

"You don't seem to be listening to what I'm saying, dear."

Those words snapped her out of listening to what the gentlemen were saying. The man before her had a stern look on his face. He also probably had a few too many beers and was about to do something stupid.

"I was talking about some sad shit and you're over here grinning. What conversation are you actually in?"

He started to look around. He must have recognized the men she had moved closer to. He then looked back at her and leaned in.

"So you weren't on a date were you?"

She knew she had to think fast and she also wanted to get more information if she could. She started to lean to the side and tried to pick up what else they were saying. She got bits and pieces, but he was on to her. He kept leaning in to tell her how he was going to tell everyone, but she leaned further away on purpose to make her chair fall. She let out the loudest scream on purpose. Everyone around saw her fall with him right over her.

"Help! He's drunk and just shoved me because I refuse to go home with him! Someone please help! I already got away from one abusive man tonight, please help me!"

Respect was held dearly in this line of work and abusing a woman was not respectful. Before she knew it a few men had already came over and threw a few punches. They were starting to beat him when she started crying out.

"Oh no! Please! Show mercy, the mercy he didn't show me!"

She had been gripping onto her arm for a while trying to make it look like he had held onto her too tightly, like he wasn't accepting no for an answer and was going to take her with him. The men took one more swing before brushing their suits off and ordering a round of drinks.

Looking up at her he spat out blood and tried to call her a bitch. Simplicity smiled sweetly and leaned in towards his ear, this time it was her turn to speak.

"You know my mama always told me, I can't go to heaven without raising hell."

Simplicity then used her shoe to get a good kick in, one that most likely would make the man remember nothing from this night. Even if he did, he would be hard pressed to get anyone to believe that she was someone from another family trying to gather information. The men cheered to her dealing her own blow to him. A few offered to walk her home, but she kindly refused and bought them all another round of drinks to prevent them from pushing it. The men were all starting to get a little too drunk to think straight at this point. They cheered at the free drinks and her pocketbook cried. She'd earn it back though with the information she was bringing home, and that put quite the smile on her face.
