JackHenryAbbot pulls up his soapbox and begins to speak..

"My friends, I am an avid historian of this thing of ours.  To face the future, to enjoy the present, one must have a keen understanding of the past.  And today I am going to speak to you about a war that has lived on in infamy, it happened almost exactly a decade ago. 

The Las Vegas Civil War.

Inside Las Vegas

Las Vegas was an experimental city, a number of Made associates of various families were supported in setting up.  Amongst them, Richard_Kuklinski (RK).  RK was New York's choice.  New York was ran by Deimne, with various high profile names also present.  

At the time of the Las Vegas Civil War, at least one other crew leader was in Las Vegas; JamesTerranova, but a series of events would lead, shortly, to RK being the sole remaining CL in Las Vegas.  With support and input from his friends in New York, he auth'd two captains to work under him, one was The_King and the other RJFuller (RJ). 

The Auth's

The_King borrowed money outside of the family, developed a gambling habit, and increased the size of his outfit, contrary to clear instructions from RK.  And so, alas, The_King had to die.  RK had his friends in New York take the shot, not least because of his terrible gunmanship skills.  But there was no war.  The_King was simply killed and his crew joined RK, or RJ.

A rogue had set up in Las Vegas, with the intention of 'taking out' the city's leaders of Las Vegas.  Within 24 hours,  this city was once again site to upheaval and public disorder.  JamesTerranova disclosed to RK that he had received "inside information."

The Preamble

This "inside information" came from the recently auth'd RJFuller.  RJ was sharing RK's plans for the city, his allegiances and his run-ins with various powerful people.  See, RK had a strategic mind, but was poor on tactics.  So, he cleverly devised a plan to stay alive, which involved borrowing massive sums of money off of rich, powerful mobsters.  This worked, surprisingly well, for a long time.  But it was secret information, which RJ gave to a rival CL in Las Vegas.

Worse than that, RJ got drunk in a coffee shop and started to argue with fellow crew members, at one stage threatening to "watch the city burn."  RK was concerned about this and sought out more information.  This led him to discover that RJ had announced he was after RK's place in Las Vegas.  Fatally, for RJ, he threatened Made associates of RK, and was suspected to have supplied information to a rogue.  RK had had enough and, after consulting with his friends on New York, decided to act.

The War

The war was in many ways unique.  RK came up with a strategy, which was to neutralise, then execute, RJ.  RK announced a competition, the prize for which was a quick and easy contract killing.  The competition was rigged, RJ won, and was invited to the city where RK and his RHM were waiting.  RJ carried out the contract killing, and was unable to travel, or use his weapon for a period of time.  RK had planned this, and then struck.  RK strode over to RJ, opened fire, and missed.  A brilliant war strategy had come unstuck at the first hurdle The war was on!

The war was a low intensity affair.  Somewhere in the region of three associates, and one Made (RJFuller) were to die.  So disillusioned was RK, that he asked friends in New York to take over, and went to bed.  This was a solid example of RK's "Devil-may-care" attitude to leading a crew.

The Las Vegas Civil War gripped the public conscious at the time.  Hundreds gathered to watch and discuss the events as they unfolded.

GWARBLE (a man who looked not unlike Grin-08 ) commented:

"Seriously, you guys are great."

AfroSamuri said:

"This isn't a war only two people have died thats a bar fight."

Premeir- and Gwarble were scathing at the bodycount, which had reached one within an hour of the war erupting.  In response, Richard_Kuklinski said:

"It's a low intensity, civil conflict. We are only targeting guys loyal to RJ."

Anselmo asked:

"I am morbidly curious myself. And based on this turnout, I was very relieved to find that I am not the only one who is oddly fascinated by all of this.

What of the rest of RJ's crew? No protected members? No list? Or were RJFuller's crew of goombas and earners all marked as co-conspirators in this coup? I know that some were gunned down after finding themselves homeless, others joined Kuklinski's outfit, and others decided to jump ship all together and seek refuge in other cities. Is there anyone left we should be keeping an eye out for? If so, what of them?"

His questions went unanswered, until Richard_Kuklinski himself announced that:

"What Mr Fuller did not realise is that the traditions and rules that govern us are adhered to by large numbers of people. People don't like agent provocateurs, they are not good for business or for morale. The ironic thing is, if Mr Fuller had allowed his HQ to grow, if he had shown maturity and insight, he would have become a force to be reckoned with, instead he is riddled with bullets, no doubt with an angry, vengeful son out there.

This decision was not taken lightly - But it was a decision that had to be made."

 

The war raged for a few more days, and then it was over.  Richard_Kuklinski became the sole remaining CL in Las Vegas, and would remain so for several months.

I do fancy a good history lesson of the times of past. I do believe knowing the history of this place of ours hold great knowledge for newer generations to learn from.
