possible way to solve de-ranking BG buying Started by: Marty on Apr 05, '11 19:47

Just set a max limit for each level, like thug and gangster get zero, and dons and GF's get unlimited, and when you get deranked then it kills off your BG's as a penalty until you get the max amount for that level.

I don't know how hard it will be to code, but I just thought of this.

Altough it might solve some disputs, I dont think it is realistic.

Report Post Tip

well look at it, in the real mob, did common thugs walk around with an armada of guards?

Report Post Tip

What's to stop me, in real life, going and hiring 1,000 bodyguards to protect me? Right, only money. The truth of it is, that the current system is the most realistic it gets.

Other than maybe upgrading maintenance costs of bodyguards for those of higher ranks?

In the real world, you tend to pay people the bulk of their wages by the hour, not upfront.

My point was that they don't say 'what rank are you in the mafia? Only a wise guy? Sorry, I have to turn down this money and lucrative employment because you are only allowed this many'.

In actual fact Rofldog, within the Mafia, many jobs came with bulk payment or half now - half later type deals depending on the job.

And in my opinion DS is right, if i've got the money why shouldn't i have as many as bodyguards as i want?

Aye. I was unclear. I was agreeing with that, but adding a twist that for even more realism bgs should have their upkeep increased dramatically as well.

"In actual fact Rofldog, within the Mafia, many jobs came with bulk payment or half now - half later type deals depending on the job. "

Well, yes, when there is a definite ability to assess that the task is "complete" then people often contract out the job with payment upon completion. Heck, you might even prorate payments by some portion-of-completion too. Then you can let the contractor figure out the best way to finish the task and wash your hands of the matter as soon as possible. I don't see how that relates to bodyguards, because they're not being hired for a specific task that you can point at and say "job done!" or otherwise say "well, you're 30% done bodyguarding me, so you've got 30% of your money now.

I think it's a safe assumption that when people hire a bodyguard to stick around them permanently, they're going to pay the bodyguard some sort of wage or salary that is ongoing, not pay them a lump sum upfront for it.

Report Post Tip

Realistic? How often did people get "demoted" from a Consig to a shit sweeping gangster? I bet you could be missing both hands and still have enough fingers to count the times.

Let's not toy with the "realistic" aspect of it all.

Report Post Tip

if it was realistic, if you were mad and had to be demoted, you'd get killed.
