She Belongs To The Streets Started by: luna on Jul 14, '20 04:25

As Luna sped along the damp footpath, her red rain boots made aesthetically pleasing sounds while the cold breeze hit her face. Her legs hurt like a bitch and her lungs were on fire, but she just kept on running. Running... Running... Until she came to a dead end. She took deep breaths and rested her hands on her bony knees, arching her back forward. Then she gave in and fell to the floor. She wasn't passed out though. She knew better than to stay here and get found by the police who were chasing her.

So, she stayed there on the ground for a while to get her stamina back. She shut her eyelids and took in the smell of fresh air. Sigh. She never had this much fun when she was stuck in that big white mansion.

Four Years Ago

Luna Angelica Cortez had it all. Beauty, wealth, brains, love. Perfect girl in a perfect world. Multi-millionaire parents who tried to give her everything. An arranged marriage to a family friend, handsome and kind. Having had everything handed to her on a silver plate, she didn't know what it meant to work hard for your dreams. The truth was that she felt trapped. She wanted to explore outside of the four walls that she was kept in. One day, she decided to get a real job in the real world. Being under constant supervision meant that the only way she could do that was to sneak out. When the time was right and when the guards were distracted, she managed to slip through the front door and exit. She didn't know how to drive so she decided to walk into town. She didn't look like the average civilian. Her clothes were neatly ironed, sophisticated, and unlike the clothes she saw on other people - clean. She never got to explore the streets like this. Luna approached a fruit stall and eyed the fresh fruits on sale. "Ma'am, care for some fruits an' apples?" An old man spoke as he wiped off a drop of sweat threatening to come down from his forehead. "I've no money on me, sorry," she shook her head and put up her hands to show that her pockets were empty. She nodded and smiled to thank the old man and walked away continuing her exploration of the streets. Luna was easily noticeable. She walked and people stared. She was starting to feel uncomfortable and she decided to find refuge in an empty alleyway. There were cracks in the ground and cigarette butts laying all over. She put her back against the wall and slowly slid down. "Aagh, my head..." She whispered to herself before putting her head in her hands. Then suddenly, she noticed a figure coming towards her. She didn't look up to see the face in time though as she passed out and her head hit against the concrete.

...

A skunk smell hit Luna's nostrils. It was so in her face that it made her wake up dramatically, her eyes big and wide. "It's weed. Ever tried it before?" Luna gasped, almost choking on her breath. A low voice could be heard somewhere, but she didn't see anyone around her. She was with another GUY!? Luna thought about how mad her mother would be if she found out that she was with someone other than her fiancé. She was frantic and confused as to how she ended up here. Fearing for her life, she stood up and started to look for an exit out of what looked like a basement or just a really dark place. "Chill, you passed out and I brought you out here to my pad. Didn't want to just leave you out there. You can leave if you want to. I'm not stopping you." A guy emerged from a different room holding two cups of coffee, one of them he set. down in front of her. In another hand he was holding a joint, smoking it casually. He offered it to her and she widened her eyes once more and shook her head. "Geezus, it's not poison I promise." Luna was clueless. But... she didn't want to go back home just yet. What was the point of sneaking out the mansion if she didn't at least try something different? So she accepted his offer and took that first hit. Without realizing, the guy had run off again to roll another joint. He came back and they passed it between each other. Luna felt amazing, to say the least. Her mind felt so free. She wasn't scared anymore. Just before the night ended, he asked if he wanted to go home.

Luna closed her eyes, smiling. She found comfort being in the outside world. Being out in the streets gave her such an adrenaline rush she couldn't describe. Then she opened her eyes again and looked at him.

"Can I just stay here? I have nowhere else to go."

The guy was confused and he took the joint out of his mouth. "You look like you have a wealthy family. Don't you wanna go back to them?"

Luna didn't want to say anything anymore. The weed must have made her tired. When the guy got the hint that she wasn't going to continue talking, he shrugged and threw the joint away.

"Alright well, I gotta warn you. I'm a little intense."

"I like intense," she managed to say before drifting off to sleep.

Luna's vision became normal again and she stood up. Some voice came close and she quickly hid behind a few dumpsters. "Man, what the fuck. I swear I killed that little shit."

"Then why the hell did we get alert that she was walking around on the streets?"

The two men seemed to be coming closer to her hiding spot and she could feel her heart literally beating out of her chest. A gunshot went off in the distance and it distracted them. They went away running towards the sound. Just in time for her to quickly run away again. Luna and Chad's hideout wasn't that far and she found herself back at the pad again. "You get the stuff?"

"Yeah I did. Who are we hitting up next?" Luna asked as she threw a few cigarette boxes his way.

"A mob boss."

Luna swallowed. She turned around, wide-eyed and taken aback. "Sorry... a WHAT!? No... we are not doing that. There is no way in hell that we're ever going to escape a mob bo-"

Chad sighed as he ran his hands through his hair frustratingly. "Not like we have a choice."

"W-what? Why?"

"Dude, I don't fucking know okay. These dudes somehow found our pad and they woke me up while you were out. They said something about spots in their family... jobs... money... Fuck sake I didn't know what to do, plus they had a gun to my head while they were saying all this shit so I just accepted whatever they needed done."

Luna heard stories. Terrible ones. About the mob bosses in this big ol' town. They owned pretty much everything. The clubs, cafes, restaurants, heck even the laundromat down the street. Luna and Chad never really talked about it properly. And now that this was happening, Luna was going to have a panic attack. But what was she going to do now? There was no getting out of this. "Right, well if we are going to do this. We're going to do this right."
