I knew someone would stick up for the original, Foamy! It's a classic in its own right, especially the story behind it with the lyrics being Ian Curtis' last and then it being released as the first single from the newly-formed New Order. That cover has always stuck with me though, I love the oomph of it when the bass kicks up into the mix later in the song. |

Cromwell, Foamy - I'd never listened to that before. I liked it. Whilst we're on the Manchester theme, Step On is a cover. The Monday's most famous song wasn't one of theirs. WFL is their best, IMO. Joe Cocker made With a Little Help from my Friends his own. Hmm, I think my all time favourite cover version is Alabama Song by The Doors. 53 years later, it's still incredible to listen to. Think I'll nip over to Paris for the 50th anniversary of Jimbo's death. |

I'm usually a snob when it comes to covers, so I have to go all the way back to the 70's. Aerosmith's "Train Kept A' Rolling" is way better than the Yardbird's original. Oh, and of course, Alien Ant Farm's "Smooth Criminal". That's a no brainer, unless you are into dead child molesters. |
