Rebuild mode? Started by: Wheeler on Aug 09, '20 12:11
I’d like to suggest that the Rebuild mode (especially the job coverage at 90% feature) be tweaked down to 80% or even 75%. Whilst I do see the intention behind rebuild mode, and in its intended setting (big war, not many families left standing) it keeps kicking in regularly, despite there being no real obstacles to people joining families at the moment. There are a great number of people who have no intention of joining a family, no matter how long they are given and are simply farming hustle points. They then go over their seven day grace period and are protected from being shot for even longer due to rebuild kicking in too easily.

Dropping the job coverage requirement, atleast for the last 12 hour period atleast, would prevent this.

You cant be at the top and want to control every aspect of the game, then shun new players because growth sounds inconvenient.  If this is a responsibility that those at the top don't want, then they can move over and we can add in other crews who do wish to take on this responsibility.

By giving the users at the top control, they also have some responsibilities to go along with it - if they can't be bothered then we can change the dynamic of how it works, but they will have to step aside and give up their control over to others out of their reach who are willing to pick up the slack.

This game is 24/7/365, we can't close the doors and only be open 18/5/274 because those at the top are unwilling to handle or delegate that responsibility to others.

Sending 25% of new players away from the game doesn't sound like an ideal situation.  If having sponsor coverage is difficult, I can always introduce a solution that is out of the hands of those at the top to solve the problem.

Most people in the crews don't have tasks or responsibilities given by the family.  Utilize and trust your members. If there isn't a single person in your family who you don't trust to do it, then its time to allow other families to handle it.

I have been at the top for nearly 6 months now and have not encountered any shunning of new players. All responsibilities are being wholeheartedly embraced, which is why every city in the game has multiple crews in it and there is a permanent auth option in any city within the game, no questions asked. Quite a good time for new players, really, with a continual direct route to success.

As to this change, seems like a non-issue to me. Job Coverage is in the 90% range, even with experienced people deliberately choosing not to join crews.

Grin-08 It is at the moment, though there have been a few times, early in the day, (5/8 Am MR time, when American players are going to bed and European ones are just waking up) where rebuild mode has kicked in for a few hours. I’m not sure that preventing you from shooting otherwise viable targets during peace-time was the intention behind rebuild mode being implemented. Whilst the 5 man crew is a great opportunity it isn’t really relevant to what I’m suggesting.

Squishy If people aren’t pulling their weight or delegating a bit of power, or worse, deliberately excluding people from joining crews, then that’s something that should be addressed, ofcourse. But that is something I’ve not personally experienced. In Ragnarok’s crew multiple people were given the privilege of being sponsors, and in my crew, despite us being only a 5 man outfit, 3 of my 4 members have the ability to recruit new members.

However in regards to turning away 25% of new players... In peacetime, when these new characters aren’t playing past their first hour, or aren’t joining a crew in the seven days given to them, then I’m not entirely sure that they ever will, regardless of being given further protection or not. After seven days of peacetime, if you haven’t taken any steps towards joining a family, then the bullet heading your way should be expected. Back when I started, before the job system was implemented, if I remember correctly we still had a relatively similar number of players to what we have now. Back then the onus was on new characters and sponsors to reach out to eachother. This process has now been improved on and you’re basically spoon fed the opportunity to join a family.

I would like to state, that I fully support rebuild mode for the scenario it was intended for. During wars or periods where there aren’t enough spaces in crews for new players. I just think it kicks in too easily in those few quiet hours during the morning.

I never said that was the intention of rebuild mode - the intention of rebuild mode was to prevent unnecessary deaths due a lack of available space, a problem which doesn't actually exist at the moment. One of the indicators used to determine if rebuild mode is needed is job coverage. It did flick on a few times, however more crews have been authed and more sponsors have been appointed from the timezone in question. This is why I don't think it'll be a problem.

The 5 man crew comment was in relation to Squishy's assertion that new players are being shunned or responsibilities are being shirked. Neither of which is the case, as new players are being embraced with open arms and given a permanent gateway into leadership roles, should they so desire them.

Ah fair enough, now you’ve explained it’s clear I’d misread the meaning behind your post! My bad!

Squishy's assertion that new players are being shunned or responsibilities are being shirked.

I'm not saying they are.  I am saying that to drop the requirements to only 75% would result in abandoning the responsibilities of the uppers position and require admin intervention to pick up the slack.  And this is 100% OK, not everyone plays with the common good in mind.

I just strongly feel that if people want to drop the standards to the point where it is super detrimental to the game as a whole, I am going to have to rewrite how its done and ultimately I think those in the 'me first and the gimme gimmes' mentality group would not enjoy the changes that will require them giving up their control on who and who can not lead families.

If the circle jerk would stop being so fucking paranoid to the "new" and  quit the fishing expeditions "rebuild mode" would never come up! The circle jerks feel they rule this thing and that kills the game.

Report Post Tip

Actually Tilted, there are more than enough spaces open. Over 200 I believe. Rebuild just means there aren't enough sponsors on even though we may one one or two seriously "new" players every day. The majority are returning players with a crew in mind already or people like you who are just here to disturb the shit by being salty.

Typical of you Jeden to assume everyone is salty when they hit a sore spot.

Just one follow-up on this. I've noticed that when I switch between desktop and mobile my sponsor toggles off.

I hadn't noticed that until now, which suggests I've often been sat with my sponsor toggled off even though I've remained active - is this an intentional feature, or just an accident?

I have a question on this:

Is  the rebuild mode kicking on  at those hours despite the number of sponsors, because too many chosen sponsors are not turning on  their sponsor tag?

When you log in on a new session, its default state is off so that you can toggle it on when you are ready to be a sponsor. This is intentional.
