Ideas for Vegas. Started by: Kurtz on Apr 18, '11 12:10

Passing the last of the envelopes to his runner, Kurtz sent the young man way. For the first time in days he took a breath and looked down at his almost orderly desk. Letting out a long sigh of relaxation he sat back in his chair and his eyes drifted to the blind, pushing golden strips of sunlight across the dimly light room. He got up and wandered over to the window, fingering a gap between the wooden slats, to see the Vegas strip outside. Everywhere he looked there was activity. Buildings being thrown up, new roads being laid, men digging ditches and climbing telephone poles. It was all going on.

He reflected on the first phase of the plan and saw the moves being made toward it's completion. All his work toward this stage had been completed, now it was time to start working on the next. Grabbing his dust jacket, he headed out into the streets and wandered around for a while pondering ideas. Eventually he decided to grab a cool drink and sit in a favourite old square. He bought some lemonade from a kid with a wheel-stand ice-box and stood under the shade of a nearby tree to enjoy his drink. Watching the crowd passing buy and doing their daily business, a thought struck him, so he addressed the people.

Good afternoon folks. I have come here to day with a few things on my mind and I thought I'd ask you all for some feedback.

See, the last few days have been busy in Las Vegas, to say the very least. As we move forward and draw nearer to the end of our initial developments, I wanted to get closer to the people who our facilities will be used by. You guys. Needless to say we are the country's Mecca for gambling but with one glorious casino already erected and another being built as we speak, our gambling interests are not my foremost concern. We are in the entertainment business and out city is one of the primary party towns on the map.

We have all kinds of shows and entertainment lined up and we am supremely confident we can produce enough lions and tigers and bears, magic and music and money, to satisfy anyone's pallet. However it is only a fool in business who doesn't listen to his customers and we have no intention of neglecting your valued opinions. What I would like to hear from you good people, is your opinions, your ideas and suggestions.

Is there something you always wanted to see but never thought you would? Is there any business you have always wanted to use but never found? Is there any entertainment or frivolity that you never thought possible? Let us know! We aim to continue in our quest to make Las Vegas the entertainment capital of the country and do all we can to ensure it remains that way. So let us know your ideas, give us your feedback and if there is something we can build, we will do all we can to get it done!

You have my ear.

Leaning back against the tree, Kurtz took a refreshing sip of his lemonade and waited to see what people had to say.

FrankMartin listens to Kurtz carefully, and is surprised to hear what he is saying.

“First of all, congratulations on your city, I wish you the best of luck there. However it concerns me that a RHM comes to these streets, asking what he should do with his city. Maybe it’s just me who thinks it but surely before you are being trusted to run a city, you need to know how to run a city.

I do know where you are coming from, asking the people what they want, but I’m just afraid that it could make you look like you want other people to do the hard work for you, give you the ideas and you take all the credit. Isn’t this your time to show us what you've got for this city, not let us make it the way we want it to be?”

Kurtz chuckles at Frank and replies.

Frank. Make absolutely no fucking mistake here. We know exactly what the fuck we are doing. Of that you can be certain. I am here simply as a matter of courtesy and openness to the community that our city provides for. If you were privy to the background arrangements and construction that is under way in Las Vegas then you would realise pretty fast that me coming here and presenting us as open to suggestion, is nothing more than courtesy. You would realise that if not one person has any suggestions or desires then we will still be creating one of the greatest cities the world could wish for.

It would be criminally stupid to assume any levels of incapacity among our number.

I'm thinking you maybe didn't listen to all of Kurtz's speech, Mr Martin...

"We have all kinds of shows and entertainment lined up and we am supremely confident we can produce enough lions and tigers and bears, magic and music and money, to satisfy anyone's pallet."

They already have plenty lined up, all he was offering was a forum for more suggestions.

Report Post Tip

Mr Martin, your concerns are frankly wasted and are void and quite honestly your ignorance is lost on the city of LV. This offer wasnt an offer because we are struggling to bring something new to this thing of ours, it was an offer of opportunity for the people to speak out, an offer that could combine cities and yet you struggle to see past the blatant obviouse point of opportunity.

It saddens me that you feel the need to speak out and degarde, in your own words a RHM of a city, that ironically has been given the role to help the city prosper and yet you doubt his methods in such a fashion, so i would put it to you that, " i dont know were your comming from".

Listening to the men's responses Kurtz winces slightly and steps in.

Ok lads, I think maybe a slight case of misunderstanding on Frank's part. Either way I reckon the point has been laboured sufficiently and it might be time to move on. At this juncture I would like to return to my original request and ask for people's creativity to run wild. Anything you can imagine, we are open to all. It might be that we are already constructing the very thing you desire, or that what you can imagine is way beyond the realms of realistic possibility. Whatever the outcome, I would love to hear the ideas and suggestions of you all.

I havent been on these shore for a very long time, but I havent seen many if any team based competitions. I was wondering if you might be able to do a competition based on family representatives so that families of all sizes can compete. It could be something like a pp tournament or a gauntlet type of event involving multiple types of tournaments, like pping, rp, art, etc... all bunched into one point based tournament.

Report Post Tip

WhereWasI, there is the competition for the cat war thing, look at it in tho OOC, that's a family competition.

Mrs-Doubtfire listens to Mr Martin and sighs. She then looks at Kurtz and smiles.

"Kurtz, such a fantastic idea. Coming out here and asking us.. the public what WE would like to see in Vegas. Well.. I would say Casinos if most certianly top of the list. We want a Casino or two. Maybe one that is a high gambling Casino with big amounts to bet on. And maybe a smaller one for those less fortunate to have lots of $$$."

Mrs-Doubtfire then takes a breath and a sip out of her flask.

"Ahh, that hits the spot. Nothing better then some scotch. I have read in a journal of one of my ancestors from a VERY long time ago. That their city which was Detroit at the time tried to make some fantastic businesses. I think perhaps making a multiple business building? Such as a mall? (One thread with links to all other Business district threads. Clothes, bar, cafe. Etc)."

"I think those two ideas is what I would LOVE to see in the great city of Vegas."

Mrs-Doubtfire walks over to Kurtz and gives him a hug.

"Oh and good job on being a front head for Vegas. Your work and your ancestors work in these streets has always been great and I know you'll continue to keep up the great job! Now.. I must be off, I have to go and get myself a new wig fixed up. This ones getting old."

Douglas "The All Seeing Eye" Gradano stands by idly, listening to the conversation. Smiling to himself he made a mental note to stop into Vegas sometime soon, and see how the new leadership of the city was treating it. Remembering back from stories told to him, he knew that Vegas was historically a mafia city full of excitement and intrigue, and sometimes a little bit of danger as well. A grin came across his face at this thought, for it sparked another. Stepping up to the crowd, Douglas lights up a cigar and clears his throat.

"Sometimes it is not best to rely solely on new ideas, but to modify and adapt to ideas that were in place long before any of us shot our first bum. Taking a look through some past speeches and papers from this thing of ours, I've come across something that I'm sure many would love to see again. Bring back the "sin" to Sin City. To briefly cover what I mean, here is a clip from the speech that kicked this idea off the first time, many eons ago."

If someone feels strongly about hitlisting another and that shot is taken in Las Vegas, that very witness statement IF caught by the Las Vegas crime family will be held and kept quiet. For far too long have we lived and forgotten the principles of silence. If you pickpocket another and return fire is received, then you knew fully that this is the path you chose to walk down. You have to understand that, you are still expected to follow the rules of your own family. If you get caught taking a life and that witness statement is caught by another other than my own, you will have to deal with those consequences from your leader. I am just offering you some space to be free from everything else.

Listening to the input from the contributing voices, Kurtz returns Ms-Doubtfire's hug and looks around at the faces.

Ok I will start with the most recent of you. AllSeeingEye, I can understand the appeal of this idea and the romantic charm of it is far from lost on me. However this is not the old days and our city has very close ties to other cities. For us to withhold information about anything that could harm our mutual interests would, well, not be in our interests. So in short, no. As much as I get where you are coming from, this will not be something we will do.

WhereWasI. I do like the idea you put forward. Although it lacks a format or vehicle for the activity, I do like the left-filed thinking. I have asked a couple of hard drinking friends to mull it over and kick around some ideas. I will try to make sense of their drunken blithering when I catch up with them later.

Now, Mrs-Doubtfire. I love this idea. So much so that I have already started working on ideas for this very theme. There could be a few different squares, quarters or districts within the business district as time goes on. Each containing businesses and events relating to a specific theme. For now, we will be starting with a market square containing several stalls selling various whatnots. There may well be another zone or street in the district for another collection of like minded businesses but I will not say too much right now.

Thank you people for your valuable input and requests. I will be taking all of into consideration and WhereWasI, if my drunken friends come up with anything even remotely plausible, I will try to make it happen. Anyone else has any further input or requests, feel free to sing out. I'm always listening.

As Mrs-Doubtfire sits in her car to go get her new wig she hears what Kurtz had to say about her idea. She smiles at him and clears her throat.

"You love the idea? Well.. I am flattered I must say. An old lady like me.. I didn't think I had it in me to think up an idea that is being put into action as we speak. What can I say..? I guess my quick burst of brainwaves do have a use if I get them out quick enough. Thank you for listening to me Kurtz.. Its nice to see what we as a world can help one and other to make the cities better for everyone! Now.. Time to go get that wig. You never know it might make me think up more ideas."

Mrs-Doubtfire starts the engine to her car and smiles. She nods at Kurtz and speeds off to get her brand spanking new wig.
