It was night. He held his gun with affection, caressing it gently with his fingertips, he then closed his eyes and started to reminisce. He knew his family history very well. He remembered a very old story, a poem actually, about love that he was once told during his childhood in a very distant place, so distant that its location is unknown, even to him. A place his father called "Melpomenia". His father said he didn't know who exactly in their family this story is about. He said he was told this story by his father, who were told by his grandfather and so on. "Once upon a weird night, feeling He stopped for a moment to try to remember the rest. He got frustrated for a second. How could he dare to forget such story? a real story. How could he dare to forget his family history? But he quickly felt better as he remembered the rest: "As a part of me connected, another part of me feared rejection so I'd hardly ever ask her if she also thought of us," Sebastian smiled as he started to remember the first time he heard this poem. The tragic beauty of it, the cold reality, the technique... He was always amazed by it. But what affected him the most was to know that this really happened. "Ah, a dream from January, oh I would sing, she vowed to cherish - memories from when we had our tender and exquisite love. I was broken, I admit. Broken to know my soulmate had just left me hopeless, ghosting me like I was no one, as she did." Sebastian then remembered his father telling him that his grandfather used to add A noise interrupted him before he could continue. Sebastian looked around but couldn't see anyone. Instead, he saw the door open. Someone had escaped. He went out after whoever it was. When he got out of the building, he saw a woman running. Must've been the girlfriend of the guy he had just killed, he thought. She was desperate. He could relate to that feeling, especially after reciting the poem. He thought about how desperate whoever once wrote that poem must've felt someday as he walked calmly following her. The alley was dark. Everyone was sleeping at this time. No one in the neighborhood heard him kill that guy. He made sure no one could. He saw her stumble on something but it was so dark he couldn't see what it was, nor did he care really. The alley seemed endless. But it all happened quick. He started to sing very low, almost like a whisper, to himself. An addition to the poem. Like his grandfather once did. "I no longer cry indeed, I soldiered on and now I'm free Free from all the anxiety and the pain, yes..." - he pointed his gun at her and shot her 3 times. - "Yes, I'm relieved.". He then left the alley, got in his car and went home. |
