I've been watching a lot of documentaries on hell and the theories behind it all and everything else. I just wanted to know from you fine people what Hell is to you? Is it our own damnation set by our own actions, or something just made in our heads passes on through generation to brainwash society, or is it a real tangiable place made for us??? Tell me your thoughts...

Let me just start by saying that everyone is allowed their own opinion on this matter. I will NOT disrespect anyone's thoughts about it. All I ask in return is the same.

Now as to the question.....Hell is litterally(in my mind anyway) the absence of God. It is a place where God is not. I also believe that each person has their own Heaven or Hell built for them based upon their actions in life.

I am not gonna presume to say if it is real or not, mainly because I do not know. But I am gonna say that if it is, I want NO part of it

In no way am I trying to make oneviews and beliefs lesser or none existant. No offence to religion, or anything of that matter. It's just a question that anyone can answer as to what one's own views of hell are. Not everyone has the same views but it's just interesting to hear how different people view Hell.

It's a touchy subject I do realize that.

No offense taken. I think a more appropriate way to start this off is....what is YOUR opinion on it? I as well love to have intelligent conversations with intelligent people about stuff like this.

I am a man who believes in God through the christian faith and I believe it as the bible tell's it. Those are some waters I do not want to test.

My view is more of the idea of Hell of being passed down through generations to frighten those away from acts of sin. In a way like scary stories to frighten children in the right in wrong. Like stories told through Native American culture is continues to passed down. Hell won't go away only because people will always talk about it and have this image of a firey place of fire where you are punished forever.  

I'm not religious but it doesn't mean I'm trying to make fun of one's religion I've loved the idea how Hell can really be in any culture religious or not. There is always a place were the wicked go to be punished.

I agree with you 100% MelodyGardot. While the Christian view of Hell may not be the way everyone sees it, in one form or another, it still exists

I've always approached the death subject with a skeptical attitude. Being an atheist, I obviously do not follow the christian faith, or any other faith for that matter. However, I like to believe that upon death, we become something else. Perhaps not in the sense of reincarnation, but energy cannot be destroyed. Thus, when we die, our energy is transfered elsewhere. Whether it be into the bugs that eat our corpse or into the ground water that eventually surrounds our graves. It's a big cycle.

Pop culture too, had a lot of influence on the image of hell. - flames - large evil people, red, the color of blood, pitchforks - a lot of others.

My personal view is that there is no personal or ultimate hell, I believe that once you die, your soul leaves your body and mind, and travels to a random newborn. It can't be 100% foolproof because of a population growing, but just where there's a cycle, you live, you die, then you live again, then you die, etc.

And panda, i also agree with you there, you definitely covered the scientific side of the points.

How bout you all sit back for a second and think about this. The damned will be cast into the lake of fire upon judgement. It is my belief that Hell is merely another world filled not with the things the Christian bible suggests it holds, but the things that are deemed un-holy in heaven.

Fats, that is true to a point. However hell is (at least in my mind)ANYWHERE God is not. Not necessarily evil, but not at all good either.

Panda, I see your point as well. While I am a Christian, I also believe in science as well. Perhaps what you say is true to a point.

There is also another point that we are living in hell as of now and until our 'judgement'. Like Leesil was saying a place without 'God'. There are so many theories and ideas out there as to what happens. Until than...there is no definitive answer.
