Bergamot Brothers Tea Started by: Honey on Oct 13, '20 20:33

Honey stood back, hands on his hips as he surveyed his surroundings. The small shop, barren when he had first purchased the space, was now a lush tea shop, bedecked with four small cafe tables and chairs. There were carpets on the floor that looked as though they had come straight from the boat that had returned from India. Above the cafe hung rick swags of colored fabric and hanging pots draped with exotic plants. The cafe was lit with ornate lamps that mimicked Tiffany's 1910's Art nouveau style, casting multicoloured spots of light above and below.

On one side, the glass cases held delicate biscuits and cakes, fresh from the kitchen. They too carried a floral theme in the delicate icing and pipe designs. The other side stood shelves of potted plants and flowers in tidy arrangements. They were neither too plain nor too ornate but fit the look of the shop neatly. Over the tables and chairs drifted the smells of the tea and biscuits, served by shop girls who greeted patrons as they walked in. His brother Ham would be in from time to time to help blend teas or run the shop when he had to make trips out of town for business.

On the counter, there was a small sign that listed the blends of teas available and at the bottom indicated that custom blends were special orders and to inquire within. In the back, behind the ovens and stove was an office tucked into the wall. Inside were neat benches and above them were shelves that were filled with glass jars full of aromatic tea and dried ingredients. There was something for everyone. Herbal blends for medicinal purposes, spicy fragrant chai chock full of cardamom and cloves, intoxicating earl gray tea with freshly dried bergamot, and the more basic breakfast blends in English, Irish, and Scottish variants. There was, of course, extra additives that could be blended into the tea for the right price though Honey kept that on the down low. He used the tea shop to run the affairs of the partnership he had with Rom out the back and the frequent trips he took for ingredients and deliveries were the perfect cover for the more illicit side of the trade.

Next to him, the small chirrup of a gray striped cat with milk paws brought him out of his reverie. He smiled, scratching the cat on the chin as it rose to greet his hand.

"Lets open up the shop Oolong."

Vasili walked into the establishment with thinly veiled curiosity. The ambiance, the aromas, the lights, the personality of this cafe enthralled. Any attempt he made to disguise his amusement, ended up as an eggregious failure. A woman led him to an empty chair, one of many, it seemed. A fact, that surprised him in fact, either this place was newly renovated, or he had missed a memo about lucrative cafes forbidden to the public.

Either way, now that he was here, he planned to make the full use of this fortuitous opportunity to make a thorough initial assessment. "I'll have the house special please. Feel free to regale me with whatever surprises your chef has cooked up." He beamed to the woman, as he rested his ivory cane against his knee. Leaning bak into the comforting embrace of his chair, he added. "And if you'd be so kind as to offer me an ashtray, that'd be fabulous. I'd rather not burn holes in these marvelous exotic carpets."

Ham rolled into the tea shop from the back and slid past Honey's office in nothing but silk socks.  He was drunk as a skunk.  He hooked his arm around the doorframe and hiccuped at his brother, eyes watering from the boozy fumes that rose off of him in waves.

"DO WE GOT ANY COFFEE IN TIS JOINT?"  At the annoyed look on Honey's face Ham lowered his voice some and hiccuped again.  "I really need more caffeine than tea can give me little bro."  He wobbled slightly then bent to pet Oolong, the shops cat.  Bending over was a mistake and with nothing more than a loud grunt he hit the floor with his face.  "Coffee please."

Frank walked into Bergamot Brother's tea with Rosa and Rita, Rita sat on Franks right side and Rosa on his left.  They ordered three green tea with lemon and three slices of coconut cake.  The ladies talked to him about some of the changes they wanted to do with his itinerary.  They wanted him to take a lower profile and keep his planner secret with just him.

Honey glowered at his loud brother who was busy being rather disruptive. There were several patrons in the shop and while they were behind closed doors, Ham’s indiscreet behavior was nonetheless embarrassing.

“I don’t serve coffee Ham, you know this. I’ve never sold it here and while it’s good for a morning pick me up with breakfast, it’s not on the menu. Where are your shoes? This is a bit far even for you...” He frowned, sizing his older brother up and down. He was disheveled and filthy though he was certain Ham’s escapades had been productive. Nevertheless, his brother fell awkwardly to the floor, face planting on the carpet. Oolong climbed up and began kneading Ham’s vest, quite satisfied with his perch that was half groaning, half snoring.

“I’ll leave you there, don’t do anything stupid. If you wait I’ll get you coffee.”

He stepped over Ham and went out to the front of the store, glad to see that the ruckus hadn’t caused too much of a scene. In the front, one of his waitresses was nervously telling a well dressed man that she’d didn’t offer ashtrays and that smoking was only allowed outside the cafe. He approached them first and greeted Vasili with a smile.

“Pleasure to see you in the shop, we’ve quite a selection of teas and pastries but for the comfort of the other patrons, I’ll reiterate that smoking in the shop is not allowed. I do hope you understand but it’s a personal preference as the plants don’t take kindly to the smoke. Now I must ask, are you looking for the house special with or without add ons?”

He turned to Juanita and smiled brightly. “Nail files are in the cosmetics shop just a few doors down, I’d be glad to send one of my girls to escort you if you need. Is there anything my shop can offer you before you go?” Before she could answer, another man piped up and motioned that she was with him. A waitress was busy putting down plates of cake for the young girl who had spoken and another lady seated next to Frank. “Looks like your tea will be out in just a moment, thank you for your patience.”

Ciel walked into Bergamot Brothers Tea with Sebastian_MichaelisHe sat at one of the tables.

"We need to get back to Chicago to find Lau. We need him in the Phantomhive Manor next Monday no matter what."

His stomach grumbled as he saw people around drinking tea.

"And uh... get me some tea and scones. I'm starving."

Solomon entered the establishment with a few of his bodyguards. It was time to relax after their flight, and what better way to do that than with a warm cup of tea?

The men grabbed a table and rested their coats on the chairs. After settling in, Solomon called over the waitress. "We'd like cups of tea please?"

After putting in the order, Solomon and his team began chatting quietly

Sebastian bowed and went up to the counter to order tea and scones for his master, Ciel_Phantomhive .

As he was ordering, he noticed a cute little cat sitting beside the man behind the counter, his eyes filled with wonder as he picked up the cat

"Aww, look at you. Now who might you be?" the man behind the counter answered with a smile That's Oolong, sir. Your Tea and scones are here. "Now isnt that a cute name, fitting for a cutie like you"

As Sebastian was playing with the cat, Ciel yelled out "Sebastian! What's taking so long?!" this startled Sebastian "Uhhh yes master! Coming!"

Sebastian gently put down Oolong with a smile and took the tray of tea and scones and went back to his master on a hurry to serve them to him.

The war had cost her in nearly every way. Angela had lost her family, her home, and most of her money, judging by the scant loose coins and lint floating around at the bottom of her purse.

"I'll have a pound of, well, whatever is on sale, please." The tea shop had been impossible to pass by, the decor alone was fascinating with its stained glass lighting and decorative wall hangings. Angela noticed the pastries and her stomach growled.

"Hush, you. Not today." She'd come back again when she had more money and really treat herself, but in the meantime she busied herself near the plants and flowers. Someone here had a keen eye, she thought approvingly. Angela enjoyed greenery but couldn't have it around, her cats would invariably eat or destroy it.

A small noise caught her attention then, and when she looked down, a grey tabby meowed up at her.

"Oh, you precious thing! What's your name?" Kneeling down, she reached for the circular disk on the cat's collar.

"Oolong. What a handsome little man you are, Mr. Oolong! My Sprinkles would just adore you!" Angela fussed with the cat for a good while longer, even after her tea had been packaged and set on the counter. By the time she'd paid for her tea leaves and left, a half hour had passed and she was covered in cat hair.

Honey came out from the back just as the woman left the store with her purchases. The young woman at the counter sighed and closed the register, looking as though she had something on her mind.

"Boss, I hope you don't mind but I couldn't let her leave the way she was. She looked so hungry and I know things have been hard all over. I put a croissant in her bag along side her tea. Was that alright?"

Honey nodded, smiling over the fact that this young woman had seen to the need of their patrons. He cared deeply for the people of the city and never wanted anyone to go hungry or do without. In the past, he had done the same thing and realized his shop keepers had picked up on that idea of altruism, passing it forward whenever they could. He hoped that the lady would enjoy her tea and pastry and return soon.

Azathoth abhorred tea to the point where one might consider him to be almost allergic to the stuff, and it wasn't like he hadn't tried it many times when on the Earth. It's just one of those things that you decide you don't want to drink and then you go along with never drinking it unless the occasion beckons and this was one such occasion as he had found himself in Bergamot Brothers Tea.

"What kind of drinks do you serve here?"

It was a stupid question to be sure but the man was hoping they'd have some coffee tucked away. Alas it wasn't to be, and he ended up luckily finding the person he was looking for before he had to sample any of the stuff. Exchanging briefcases and taking the money back to his car, he made his way as far away from the Tea joint as he possibly could.

Gordon being British loved a cuppa tea he smiled as he entered the small and quaint shop. Reading the signs Gordon was impressed at the list of available teas smiling when he saw an old favourite Scottish breakfast tea. Gordon ordered a large pot and something sweet to eat with it hoping for something simple such as rich tea biscuits or maybe a digestive heck even a good old shortbread would do just fine. Gordon took a seat next to the window to just relax knowing that the crew headquarters kitchen was being stockpiled with specialist ingredients from all four corners of the globe

On a chilly October day, though it was increasingly rare, Robert was actually in the shop rather than running around making deliveries. He was more than delighted when he saw Gordon enter the shop and personally came out to greet him. The blustery man who was so often shouting at his kitchen staff was surprisingly sanguine as he requested a pot of tea and biscuits. He was in luck as a fresh batch of shortbread had been pulled from the oven that morning. He brought Gordon a pot of spiced orange-ginger black tea that carried the fall flavors of clove, vanilla, cinnamon, and cardamom. With it, he carried out a plate full of the thick rectangular shortbread biscuits and placed them down alongside two cups as he took a seat himself.

"How's the restaurant business? I've heard you shouting a bit more lately, figured it must be going well? The pub across the street was practically in tears over their battered fish."

Frank was back in the motor city he walked into the Bergamot Brothers Tea shop with James, John, Neri, Rosa and Rita.   They sat at a table and started talking.  The waitress came over and asked what did they want to drink.  Frank went with hot green tea no sugar, Rita and Rosa did the same.  John went with earl grey.  Neri and James went without.  Frank paid and told the waitress to keep the tea flowing and whatever change is left over is hers.

Frank wanted to build bonds with the purple gang in Detroit and the Detroit combination.  He knew that they were into illegal narcotics and he was in a position to supply them with liquid heroin medical grade he also could get them the brown powder if they wanted that too.  He wanted James and Rosa to talk with the Purple gang and John, Neri and Rita the Detroit Combination.  The product was ninety eight ercent pure and can be theirs for four thousand a pound.

Frank walked in the door and there was no doubt in Robert's mind that he wasn't here for simply tea. He waited a moment, letting the man settle in before he brought out his order. There were several others with him, each with their own flavor preference but Honey could tell that Frank wanted something more. He wasn't exactly sure if Frank's entourage was part and parcel to his illicit desires so he went the discreet method of having one of his girls slip him a note.

Once he was certain that he had Frank's attention, he signaled him towards the back office so they could talk with more privacy. Once inside, he gestured to one of the chairs near the workbench. Flicking a loose tea leaf onto the floor, he opened the conversation rather bluntly.

"Couldn't help but notice that tea might not be the only thing you're interested in today. How can I be of service?"
