The Tenth in Las Vegas. Started by: Kurtz on May 27, '11 07:57

Standing at the foot of the stone stairs that lead up to the front door of his red brick office building, Kurtz watched as the men on ladders hung the rolled banners, either side of the large handsome door. They both looked back at him for approval, he squinted to try and judge the alignment.

Yeah I'd say thats level lads. nail 'em there.

The men anchored the rolls in place and climbed down, leaving a gold chord dangling from each. Above the door was a huge stone lintel with a large number 10 carved into it. The building looked grand. Looked solid. Looked finished. On the street just in front of the building were many tables covered in rich red tablecloths. These were adorned with all manner of drinks both alcoholic and otherwise. Buckets of ice and cups of flavoured crushed ice would be as welcome as the wine in this afternoon sun. When all was in place Kurtz took a few steps above the throngs of people gathering to acquire refreshments and spoke aloud.

Ladies and gentlemen!

I have laid on these drinks and many other celebratory sundries to mark a special occasion. As the inevitable transition of our city's leader draws near, he has asked me to prepare. So I come here now, having been asked by Gaius, to establish another family in our fine city of Las Vegas. This family will house the bulk of our existing number and a select few new candidates who wish to see if they have what it takes to serve this fantastic city.

This family shall follow the rich appreciation for Roman history that Gaius was raised with and will be named after possibly the greatest legion in the history of the Roman empire. As a mark of respect for our heritage and a benchmark for the excellence I will demand of our members, we will be known as The Tenth!

Turning he raised a hand and the two rolled banners were released. Long drops of rich red cloth unfurled down either side of the doorway. Two thirds of the way down each banner sat thick characters '10th' in bold gold embroidery. Kurtz turned back to the gathered crowd and smiled.

Ladies and gentlemen I would ask you all to join me in raising a glass to a long and prosperous future for this family! Thank you for your attention and please, enjoy our hospitality on this beautiful day.

Kurtz started his way down the steps into the crowd. Any pleasure he had about things going smoothly was short lived as one of the banner boys got a bit carried away and fired two shots into the air in celebration. Kurtz winced and looked back at the young man who's face turned rapidly red as he thrust his smoking pistol into his embarrassed pocket, burning himself in the process. Kurtz shook his head, sighed and looked up as his guests with a smile. Shrugging he chuckled and walked down the steps to whisper in Randy_Savage's ear.

Go talk to our impulsive young cowboy would you? Let him know this isn't the wild west and we won't be having a fucking hoedown later.

Smirking with understanding, Randy sauntered off in the direction of the clearly worried young man and Kurtz raised his glass with a smile for everyone.

To The Tenth! ...Please, enjoy the party!

Chade hovers at the edge of the crowd until Kurtz finishes speaking to Randy.

Seeing the direction Randy wanders off to, he chuckles quietly to himself before wandering over to Kurtz.

Congratulations boss. This is well deserved and i am looking forward to working with you in the future.

Shaking his hand, Chade nods his head and takes a sip of his drink before mingling in the crowd.

Taking his glass he raises it high in the sky before finishing the glass off and throwing it into a brick wall, the glass shattering and falling onto the ground

During conversations over business I was told this would be happening, and the addition of a solid mobster with plenty of experience will do nothing but add to the legacy we plan to create in Las Vegas. You have a business ethic like no other, in which you rarely fall of the path of making this city the best it is, and I think that shows by our future Godfather giving you the blessing to take most of his family, and run the family here in this great city - it shows hard work can pay off and I think it is a point these young mobsters need to see..

You have been there for me when I needed help, insight, or even a friendly pat on the back for me to get my ass back in gear and down to business.. and for that I can only say congrats and tell you I will be there day and night if you need me.

Congrats Kurtz - the sky is the limit

Jimmy smiles at Kurtz.. the name The Tenth echoing in his mind as he wandered down the street looking for another drink, or a card game going on in this lovely city of Las Vegas

After hearing Kurtz would be setting up and calling his new crew The Tenth EvilClown- decided to do some investigating into the significance of the name. He knew the tenth was the most feared legion that Ceaser had at his disposal but he wanted to know why.

Sipping his milk and smoking a small philly he could be found engrossed in a small tome which described how the tenth was originally formed and what it meant to be part of it. With the occasional flick of his eyes to the ongoing festivities he found himself drawn back into the epic tale:

...The battle took place, and even though the Romans were victorious that day, they had suffered one of the worst tragedies. The 6th Legion under the command of T. Labienus had broke and run during the fight. They were a broken legion. After the battle was over General Crassus took the remaining 6th legion and had them perform the Tenth. That is where every tenth man stepped forward and was beaten to death with fists and feet by his fellow legionnaire. These were men who have known each other for years, some were brothers, and others were sons. This was done to reclaim some honor for their legion.

When this was done there stood but 1,000 men left. These men were given to Caesar to fill in his dead from his own legion. For there could not be 2 separate legions in one legion Caesar decided he needed to re-name his legion and give them all a new sense of pride. He called them The Tenth. By naming them this he let the world know that they had paid hard for this name and that they have shed much blood to be what they are.

This new legion was made up of battle hard veterans and many green recruits; they were the toughest, strongest, most loyal legion ever assembled. In time they would become the most feared legion the world had ever seen. Caesar won many battles just by flying The Tenth's banner on the field. For when the enemy saw that banner, many gave up their swords. Others who didn't, learned what it meant to go up against The Tenth.

That is what they are. They are the battle harden veterans, the green recruits, the most feared legion out there. They have all given much to be where they are. They have all shed blood in their own way to be who they are.

They are THE TENTH.

With a jerk EvilClown- nearly dropped his still half full glass, the philly had burnt down to his fingers. Looking up at Kurtz standing before his new headquarters he gave a small nod to himself and a prideful smile. Here indeed was a man worthy of leading such a family, God help the rest of them. Not concerned with anyone else around him EvilClown- raises the remnants of his glass...

To The Tenth!

Kurtz, working with you has been a pleasure.  You were inevitably the one who Gaius would choose to take on his family.  Cheers, to The Tenth!  Congratulations sir.

Paura this has been a sad few days for the city of Las Vegas. It was due to a gun malfunction and I'd ask that you please keep your jokes to yourself while the rest of us grieve the loss of a great man who worked his ass off for this city and for his friends.

Speaking of short lived...

SexyBeast pulls a revolver from his jacket pocket, puts it to the back of Paura's head and squeezes the trigger blowing his brains out the front of his skull across the stone steps.

The death of Kurtz marked a sad day for the City of Las Vegas as well as for me. Kurtz was a Friend of Mine and I will not tolerate those that bear my flag coming to the streets to trumpet their stupidity in the wake of tragedy.

Augustus, go grab a mop and clean this mess up.

Obediently, Augustus mops the brain matter from the stone steps where Kurtz once stood. Fortunately for Augustus, there wasn't much of a mess to clean.

EwigStolz nods and realizes that words sometimes speak louder than they should. Full knowing that disrespect is never tolerated.

Las Vegas lost greatness. I mourn the loss, and my dearest condolances to everyone most affected by these actions.
