Rissa looked out the window and let out a sigh. "I am not going, Emmett." "Yes, you are. He will be here at 7." She glanced over at the clock. 6:15. Another sigh and she headed upstairs to get ready. Emmett was determined to find her a match. Something about getting too old to be taking care of herself. Another roll of the eyes as she gazed into her closet. "What's the point?" she mumbled to herself. All her life she had been too intense. Too much. Too independent. Too much thought. Too much of everything. Some called her over the top. For Emmett though she kept up the charade like she was looking to make him happy. Truth was, she no longer cared. She had always been happier alone. Seven o'clock rolled around and she was dressed in a black dress that went just below her knees. Something respectable and classy. Her hair was pulled back in a bun, with just a few strands framing her face. She lightened up the eye make up some, but otherwise she was ready to go once she grabbed the black heels from the closet. As she reached the window, she realized she was just in time to see the man coming to the door. He seemed confident enough, not shaking like a leaf like some of the others Emmett found. He was dressed in a suit, which generally meant this was going to be the most boring of dates. A low groan escaped her mouth as the knock at the door came. Turning on her heel, she headed straight for the door. Not giving Emmett time to talk to his buddy, she grabbed his arm and started walking back down the walkway. "Ready?" She dashed him a charming smile that she had used many times to get herself out of trouble. "Uh, sure." He was thrown off guard, just the way she liked them. Gathering into his vehicle, she closed the door and turned towards him. "Rissa. Nice to meet you. Where are we going?" "Spencer, and the pleasure is all mine." He didn't answer the question right away but looked at her. A smile on his face and when she was about to protest not being told where they were going, he began to speak again. " I have a few things in mind. Let's go, shall we?" Rissa was taken back but mildly amused. A genuine smile creeping on her lips as they pulled out of the drive way. As they drove, she noticed that they were heading out of the city. As trees began to pass by she got a little tense. Noticing her reactions, Spencer patted her knee. "You're fine. I just need a little space for this occasion." Rissa tensed but sat back. She watched as trees turned into fields and before she knew it they were at a quiet spot. The trees surrounded the parking lot but it was otherwise deserted. Looking up, she could see the stars clearly and smiled. "Absolutely gorgeous!" "Just as gorgeous as you are right now," Spencer glanced up as well. Reaching into the back of the car, he pulled out a few bottles of moonshine. One for her and one for him, along with a blanket. He placed it near a metal bin. He had already been out here filling the bin with wood and paper. Grabbing a match, he lit it. "Want to be the first?" He asked. She took the match and flicked it into the wood pile. Laughing in delight as it lit up. Her eyes were mesmerized by the flames that she hadn't even seen the jars. Gently he nudged her a little and handed her a jar. She made a face at the first sip, but continued to watch the flames. "This sure beats dinner at some stuffy spot." Spencer smiled and pulled out a few marshmallows. She nearly squealed in delight. This was turning out to be the perfect date. Better than she could have even dreamed. Rissa was very content drinking and roasting the little bits of fluff for the rest of the night. |
