Back In The City Started by: Luna on Mar 01, '21 02:06

After being in hiding for a little over a year, Luna set out on the road from New York to Philly where she originally came from.

New York was fun though, but she was homesick, she admitted to herself as she drove her porsche along the quiet road. A little worried that she wouldn't be able to make it to The Quaker City before midnight, she decided to stop at a motel for a quick stay before heading out again. She knew she shouldn't have left her NY apartment so late. Luna glanced at her rearview mirror and winced as she caught a sight of herself. Hair unwashed, bare-faced and looked like a bum on the side of the road - but still effortlessly gorgeous. Luna applied a little lip gloss across her lips before making the 'pop pop' sound. As she made her way to the entrance, she thought the motel had a creepy appearance to it. The lights on the neon sign saying 'Larry's Quick Stop' was flickering in an obnoxious manner and the wooden planks underneath her heels creaked. The owner probably named it that when he realized people didn't want to stay longer than a night. Luna raised her eyebrows in shock as she a rat scurry across the floor.

"What can I do fer ya, miss?" The manager of the motel, who she assumed to be Larry, came out from the back and stood behind the receptionist desk with a goofy smile. He seemed much too joyous to be working at this time of the evening.

"Just a room for a few hours," Luna replied, still surprised by the rat from earlier.

She fought the urge to ask him how long had it been since the place went through a deep clean. "Certainly, miss. Well uh... lemme get your key," he replied instantly as he turned around and checked the available keys on hand. Luna's eyes went straight for the gun that was placed in his hip gun holster. Out of habit, she reached for her own gun in her purse. He was taking extremely long just to pick out a key. The man laughed quietly, thinking she didn't know what he was up to. Little did he know that he was the one in for a surprise. He quickly placed his hand on his gun to take it out, before getting pistol-whipped and falling dramatically to the ground. Luna took deep breaths in and out as she towered over him.

"Motherfucker, I just can't seem to get any rest now can I." She became furious with herself and took a few caramel hard candies from the bowl on his desk before stepping out of the motel. She looked left and right, even though the road was practically abandoned. She thought about resting in her car for a bit but thought otherwise because who knew what the fuck could happen. Something always has to happen when she wanted to simply get a rest.

"Fuck it, I'll drive the rest of the way," she muttered to herself as she popped a candy in her mouth.

An hour later, she could recognise familiar buildings in the distance. She was close to her old apartment address now. The cheesesteak shop she would always visit after school and the local city hall that was once bustling with activity was now vacant and lifeless. What had happened in the year she had disappeared? She drove slowly, not realizing she was holding up a few cars behind her. One of them cussed at her as she moved to the side, before flipping him off in retaliation. Asshole. Maybe nothing has changed, Luna scoffed. Suddenly a knock on her passenger window startled her and she hadn't realized who it was until he started pointing to his name badge plastered on the front of his t-shirt.

"Oh my god... Mike?"

Her eyes twinkled with joy, rolling down the window and smiling softly. He looked... different. But a good different.

"I didn't know you're back in the city, Luna! Since when?"

Oh. That's right. No one knew she came back, not even relatives.

"Um. Yeah! I--, well..." Luna, for some odd reason, had trouble explaining and maybe he had sensed that because he brushed it off.

"Nevermind. We can talk about it another time. I'm sure you just want to go and do what you wanna do while you're here. If you're free later though, meet me at JD's tonight?" Luna smiled apologetically, thanking him for understanding.

"Sorry. Just tired. Been driving all night. Um, yeah sure. That's the poolroom and bar right?" Mike nodded and hit her with a finger gun.

"That's the one. See you there? Or not? It's all good. But I'd really like for you to meet my mates. It's been a while, Luna. Good to see you again."

Luna was fine with it, she really was. But she thought about what might happen if he ever came to found out what exactly she was here for. Luna watched him walk away, slightly regretting that she had been so friendly to him. Maybe he won't ask. Or maybe she'll get tipsy and start telling him everything. That would be a nightmare.

She grabbed a cheesesteak on the way to her old apartment, still finding it in the same mess she left it in. She opened her luggage in front of her on the coffee table, taking out all the weapons and drugs seized from the last job she participated in. That's not what she was searching for though.

Luna pulled out a list of targets from the side pocket, eyes grazed over the name at the top of her list. She studied it carefully, the name repeating in her head a million times.

"Mike Bianchi. Don. Bianchi Crime Family. Status: Alive."

There was a lot more to explain, but Luna felt sick to her stomach. As a contract killer working for one of the most elite crews in the world, she never expected that she would have to kill a childhood friend one day.

As part of Luna's plan, she knew she had to keep playing friendly with Mike. While she was being introduced to his mates, she felt a little tension in the air, as if they already figured out her true intentions. But she was known to be an over thinker, so she just tried to shut the doubtful thought out. She shook hands, drank with them and listened to their pitiful stories but she still had her mind on that night’s plan. It wasn’t exactly a thrilling moment to have to kill your childhood friend back in the city you were raised in. Nonetheless, the kill had to be executed sooner rather than later. This was her job and she was good at. Luna had mastered the art of disguise during her training sessions. Even down to the facial expressions, one wrong muscle pulled and she knew it would be over. Luna was sure now that no one was going to see it coming. She sat at the bar with her leg crossed over the other, fiddling with the green olives in her cocktail.

“You having a good time, Luna?” Mike spoke in her ear and sat next to her before making a hand gesture to the bartender to bring up another shot for him. Luna turned to him and smiled casually, nodding and eyeing the skull ring on his finger, the light reflecting on it. "You like it?" Mike questioned her with a charming smirk to which she responded with another nod. She wasn't in the mood to talk much, but she knew that she had to at least say something here and there. In fact, she just wanted to get her kill over and done with. He talked too much. She noticed that when he was surrounded by his associates he was even worse. Talking shit about this and that - like really? Now that's the real definition of someone talking a lot but not saying much. Luna raised her brows in surprise and scoffed, not in front of him, as he had already walked away to greet some newcomers to the bar. It was quarter to midnight now and she noticed the bar-comers starting to leave. Mike was nowhere to be seen. Shit. She swore to herself that she had his eyes on him few seconds ago. The fuck.

The unimaginable happened - not that she didn't think Mike wasn't capable of trying to kill her, but the fact that he would even try to assassinate the assassin herself. Play with fire, you get burned. Luna was pushed against the bar counter, Mike's hand around her neck as he applied a little more pressure to give off the impression that he was real serious now. "After a little digging from one of the associates, we found out who you are. Not bad, Luna. Guessing the dental career path didn't turn out well?"

Luna winced as she felt the edge of the counter sticking into her back. She had her weapon with her, but she wasn't going to risk taking it out in front of all his men. "You're not going to kill me, Mike." She managed to say through short breaths. Luna had a way to get out of this situation. Mike laughed loudly, coughing afterwards as it seemed he almost choked on his disgusting spit. "Yeah, right," he scoffed. She stared right at him, putting her hands behind her as a barrier to lessen the pain of the bench digging into her spine. Mike pushed her harder against the bar. His patience was running out with her, yet Luna knew that she was protected by her crew. The Bianchi Crime family was nothing in comparison. "You're not gonna kill me Mike. And you know that."

Then in a few sudden and swift movements, Luna switched it up and took the gun from Mike before putting him in a headlock. His Beretta pressed against his skull. Hitting up the gym was a good investment. Luna never missed arm days and Mike was clearly struggling in her tight hold. "Alright, Mike. We can take this real slow and easy. Order your men to leave the premises or you can meet your inevitable fate and die right here, right now." Mike felt the weight of her words, and he refused to die by her. He waved his men away and gave them a look of concern. Luna knew that the moment they would leave, they would be calling for back up and swarm the bar with many more monkeys in suits. She wanted to make it quick. When they left she let him go by aggressively kicking the back of his legs. He fell forward and looked up with mercy in his eyes. Luna walked around him to look him in the eye, pressing the gun to his forehead. BANG! One shot and he fell to the ground. Dropped the gun. Then she quickly walked out the back door of the bar. She could already hear men rushing inside looking for her but she was already never to be seen again.

Boss called next morning. Urgent matters to be discussed. Luna finally got there and greeted her boss with a kiss on the cheek. "Got you a postcard," Luna gave to her and let out a sarcastic laugh. She cherished the memories she shared with her crew leader, because she was always afraid of the day that she wouldn't be there to greet her ever again in person. Luna sat down in front of her and asked her what was the matter. Moments later, she walked out of the office with a new title.

'Capo' of Coven.

She was given sponsor duties too.

Luna was almost at her office when she was stopped by one of the crew members. "Congrats, Luna!" To which she smiled and gave her thankful response. Luna was proud, and hoped that her mother Reyna was proud as well. Even if she wasn't alive anymore, Luna was comforted by the fact that her mother was most likely watching and smiling down at her from heaven.
