It is a bright summer day in a big old parking lot on the edge of the Old Town District. Two sides of the lot are surrounded with buildings. Mr. Grimwood pulls up and and you can hear some of the pebbles on the cracked pavement grind slightly as the breaks lock to a halt. He is wearing a dark blue three piece suit with matching thinly-spaced pin stripes. His shoes are Italian black leather with brown soles, and his hat is black felt with blue feathers tucked tightly into the hat band. He is driving his 1930 V16 Cadillac, which is painted a glossy jet black with silver fenders. Chrome adorns every surface they could possibly put and it is almost too much. This car has all the bells and whistles. Its rims are black with bright clean white wall tires that shine in the sun. He steps from the car and folds back the white leather soft top that covers the cab. While he idly admires his vehicle, he suddenly gets an idea. “Hey! Yeah, you! You kids come here! Wanna make a couple Lincolns?” Nearby kids scurry over with the hopes of money. “Look, now I've got some paper and a marker here in my glove box. I'm gonna make up some signs and I want you guys to run around and post em up really good for me, okay? If you can do it quick, there's some dollars in it for ya, okay?” He returns to his vehicle, opens the door and slouches down into the white leather interior. Tilts his hat down and relaxes a moment. The signs read: Cruisin’ Car Show in the Old City District today! 1532 Walnut street 3:00pm |
