It was early Friday morning. Saanvi was walking her dogs in the deserted South Side district, looking at the building that had served as Headquarters. 

She had actually never been here before. Most meetings and social gatherings had been in The Loop at the request of Lilith, the Godfather Chairman of Chicago. Curious as she was, what did you expect from a woman, she decided to go in and see what it looked like.

She bumped into a couple of security guards from The Loop. They hadn't recognised her yet, but when she introduced herself to them, they let her in. 

The hall looked good, a bit dated and in need of some new paint here and there. But that was easy to fix. She walked through to the kitchen, for her dogs had become thirsty and she did not want to take them with her on her exploration of the building. 
She looked around and wondered where she could find a big enough bowl to give her dogs some water.

In the kitchen, she opened all the cupboards to look for coffee beans. She had found a coffee machine and was hungry for a cup of coffee. The kitchen was not very clean, but that did not matter for the coffee. She switched on the machine and washed a coffee cup. With the cup of coffee in her hand, Saanvi went through the whole building to check what needed to be done to make this building shine like headquarters again. 

In the office, Saanvi found a lot of personal belongings of the previous leaders. She decided that if she put all this in a box, it could go to the heirs. Otherwise, the office looked tidy and neat. In the bookcase, Saanvi found an extensive collection of books that looked like they hadn't been read for ages.
She picked one up and thought she was looking at a normal book. Flipping through it, she saw that this was written in a foreign language, the top part of the page was written in Latin and the bottom part in Russian. She decided that these books might be something for Cossack. 

In the large ballroom, traces of the fight were still visible. Of course, it had been tidied up a bit, but it could be done better. One of the bedrooms was not quite spic and span either. 

Saanvi picked up her dogs and went back to her own quarters, calling Cossack to her. 

"Cossack, I have the books for you here, but first I want you to take care of this list of work in the South Side building. The former headquarters building needs to be refurbished so that the new Crew Leader can start his work from there. The list is not very long, but it might take some days to do it. When it is finished we can give the key to Lilith, so she can decide who will be the next occupant of this building".

Cossack took the list and looked at it.

"That's not really much work, I'll put enough people on it and then it should be done quickly. What are those books?"

Curious, Cossack wanted to open the box, but Saanvi closed the lid right away. 

"No Cossack, first get to work and then you can have the box."

Saanvi knew that if Cossack started reading these books, he would not be able to work. 

Cossack went to work renovating the building according to the instructions he had received from Saanvi.
He cleaned the interior of the basement, put in a new floor and added new items such as a new bed and a bedside table, as well as new doors, light fixtures and wallpaper.
He then got to work finding and installing a concrete slab between the two floors, sealing the newly-added sections with caulk and sealing them in again, before repairing the original basement.
Cossack took extensive efforts to ensure that the two floors were completely lined up.
Saanvi insisted on installing water-tight partitions between the adjacent floors, as this would make an immense amount of wood warp easily discovered when the two floors were tied together. When the original floor was not as it was when I received it, Saanvi insisted on placing a layer of mortar between the outer and inner one. When that first layer was still out, he added a second one in the old style of brick. 

Saanvi went to see the result, and she was very pleased. She knew Desperado a little and had an idea that he would appreciate the changes.

"I think we're done here Cossack, let's go to Lilith so she can hand over the building to Desperado. We did our best".

Together with Cossack, they drove to the city headquarters in The Loop to hand over the keys to Lilith. When they arrived, they saw Desperado's car. His cargo space was overloaded with boxes and suitcases and it was clear that Desperado was ready to move to South Side.

Very happy that everything was ready in time, Saanvi and Cossack went inside. 

After Desperado was given the keys, Saanvi congratulated him:

"Congratulations Desperado. I am very happy that you are moving to South Side. I do hope you appreciate our welcome gift. A lot of work has gone into renovating the building. Good luck."

Congratulations Desperado! You will help South Side Chicago shine bright! Of course, it goes without saying, that you need to have a pancake party in celebration.

Joyner was sitting outside of the Headquarters in The Loop while he awaited Desperado to emerge. As he waited, he sat down on the curb and put his arms on his knees. He looked around at the quiet air and then dug his hands into his pocket to grab a lighter and cigarette. As he flips open the pack and grabs a cigarette with his mouth, then closes the pack and shoves it back into his pocket.

He then looked up at the buildings and their reflection in the glass windows. As he stared at the shadows and reflections, he noticed a very slight but telling change in the shadows, despite not seeing any change in the morning sunlight. He couldn't quite explain what he was seeing, but it was there. He was seeing the shadows changing, but not the other way around.

As he lights the cigarette, he noticed a familiar car approaching. As they got closer, he realized it was Cossack and Saanvi, Godmother and RHM of North Side, Chicago. Joyner respectfully gets up and dusts himself off and awaits for them to emerge from the car. As Cossack gets out first, Joyner walked over and greeted him with a handshake. Saanvi was next to get out of the car and Joyner walked over and gave her a hug.

"How are you guys! Are you ready for the celebration? Man, Desperado. Finally getting a district to call his own, he is well-deserving. I remember serving under him and also my father served under him. He is a great man and leader, then he gets drunk and.. let's leave it at that."

Joyner laughs along with Saanvi and Cossack. As they reminisce, the headquarter doors open and Lilith hands over the keys to the freshly cleaned and fixed up headquarters in the South Side.

"Desperado, my friend. You are very deserving. I am proud to say I once worked under you. Look at where I am now, why is that? Not because of me, it is because of you, bud. I thank you for everything you've done for my father and me! If you need anything, you know how to find me. I will be on North Side! I think we should get some fun district games going!"

Joyner extends his hand to shake with Desperado and he offers up a cigar.
