Obviously we, us football fans know that Sir Alex Ferguson is one of, if not the most decorated manager in football of all time.  That chewing gum addict has been at Manchester United for some twenty five years now and counting.  He boasts a staggering 19 English league titles and much more trophies.  This year he has pulled on up on the mighty Liverpool by winning one more league title than them.  See Liverpool have still got one up on Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United, Liverpool have won more Champions League/European Cup which ever you want to call it than them.  I personally do not think he is going to retire anytime soon.  I think he wants to win another Champions League before he retires (This would take him up to three).

In recent years there have been alot of Managers rising and comming through as high profile managers.  Therefore my point being these managers coming through, people like Harry Rednapp, Roy Hodgson, Jose Mourinho, Rafal Benitez Lenardo etc etc have been linked with taking Sir Alex's role if he did decide to retire.

So my question here for you today is - If Sir Alex was to retire, who do you think would be best suited for the job and who do you think would actually get the job and why?

Like I said I cant see him retiring, but if the rumours are true I could see either Jose Mourinho, the special one getting it or maybe even a fresh managerial role for David Beckham could come from nowhere...

What utter rubbish. Only Jose Mourinho from that list has ever been mentioned as a potential candidate when Sir Alex retires, and we have already discussed this in the other thread. 

The fat controller and Roy Hodgson got booted out of Liverpool,and certainly not good enough for them, then they are certainly not good enough for Manchester United. Leonardo was sacked within a year of taking over from the fat controller at Inter (who did not even last 6 months). As for Rednapp, likeable guy, decent enough manager, but lacks experience at the highest level and is too old anyhow (64). 

What other names do you want to throw up? Maybe some other dreadful Liverpool managers such as Roy Evans or maybe even Houllier with his dodgy heart? Or some former liverpool greats who have "excelled" in management? John Barnes? Graeme Souness? John Aldridge? Maybe Keegan should be the next United manager because he would "just love it" , perhaps racist Big Ron could take us back to the 1980s, the last time Liverpool were any good (2005 excluded) 

Stick to piping on about how Liverpool is going to dominate next season. Signing Charlie Adams shows what kind of level you operate. As for your previous debt remarks in other threads, where do you think the money for your new stadium is coming from?  John Henry is not going to just take a visit to the ATM machine and take out £200/300 million?

that is correct also those names have been drawn out a hat or something, jose mourinho is only one close to being a realistic target and even for him it would be an extremely difficult task to lace fergies boots and would the fans accept him after all those years of hysterical interviews and comments LOL 

The Special One has always said he'd be interested in the job, which is why a good manager like him is constantly linked. Personally, I can't see it being him, I think it will be a proven EPL manager that Sir Alex reckons can steady the ship after he leaves, as thats what Utd will need. No-one, and I mean no-one, will be able to improve things at Utd so looking for some fantastic manager to replace Sir Alex is pointless. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone along the lines of David Moyes find himself in the running for it.

Also, to the point on Charlie Adam - Liverpool have signed him purely because everyone was talking about him last year, Charlie flatters to deceive. As someone that watched him for a long time while he was with Rangers and although he has the odd flash of magic, its few and far between. For every pin point 50 yard pass he connects with, there are another dozen that end in the stands. Something that conveniantly isn't shown on MOTD as its pivotal that we show the EPL to be the bet league in the world - something I dont believe it is.

Anyway, back to the point at hand. I dont think Sir Alex will retire anytime soon, and I certainly don't see that thug Keane getting the job, or Princess Becks.

true that keane would only be useful if he was re-used as a battering ram which heads his only use.

being a rangers fan myself will say charlie adam has only be shown through his strength's yet none of his down sides has come to light and as alabama says MOTD makes him look a star but in reality hes mediocre.Dont get me wrong he might prosper for liverpool being surrounded by players that work hard so he doesnt have to tends to work better for adam so who knows, im all for scottish players in the EPL.

And i also think a manager who understands manchester united football club would be a good pick someone more close to home would be better off taking the reigns

David Beckham should stick to painting his wife with mahogany wood stainer and designing underpants, as for ever being the manager of Manchester United, not in this lifetime, the next one, the one after the next one, the one after the one after the next one, the one after the one after the one after the next one, the one after the one after the one after the one after the next one, the one after the one after the one after the one after the one after the next one .... you get the idea .... 

i dont think Ferguson will retire, at least not before a final revenge clash against Barca :) 

as much as i adore fergie...no chance will he ever beat barca...if barca have the same team or similiar maybe with the enclusion of fabregas then this is a team full of world class players that have gel'd over a number of years...totally unbeatable until the team is broken up i'd say

What I believe is the United (and Arsenal with Wenger) have a few options when naming a new manager:

Best Manager - IUnited are a top club, and like the way they can attract the top players, they can also attract the top managers. someone who can bring instant success. Someone who will get the respect of the players straight away. Someone who will also bring with him previous favoured players. However, this option is short term. The top managers have shown that they will move about. Win a little bit. And move on. A team like United has become successful by being loyal to their manager, and having a loyal manager. So whilst the 'Best Manager Available' option will bring instant success, it might not bring longevitiy. Just see Real Madrid over the last 10 years...Mourinho? Ancelloti?

Clone Manager - Someone who is in the mould of Fergie. Like when a player leaves, a manager will often replace him with a similar player. should they replace Fergie with a similar manager? Give him the time and space Fergie has had. Bring in a manager with similar ideals as him who will carry on Fergies work with very little change. It has been proved as a winning formula, but are there many managers out their?
Boot Room Boy - Liverpool in the 70/80s got a lot of success using the boot room mentality. As one manager left, there was already someone within the club ready to step in, meaning that the changeover was seemless. Could Phelan or someone else on the coaching staff step up? Or can they rush Neville through his badges to take over in 2/3 years

Old Boy - With the likes of Keane, Hughes, Ince, Moyes and Mcleish having experienced managment recently, could and Old Boy be the option? They would get immediate respect and would come in as a United Leagend / Trainee

A New Dynasty - This is my favourite one for United (and Arsenal.) Like they did with Fergie and Wenger, I would like both clubs to give a chance to a young, hungry manager and allow them to build the clubs up in their own vision. The likes or Martinez, Billic, Villas-Boas, Blanc and many other young, talented managers could come in, and given 20 years, build the success of the clubs in a new vision. A complete reset. A new man given the chance. no cloud of Fergie.
