Mxyz wiped the tears from his face and looked down at the grave before him. There lies Godfather Quint, gunned down by a hot headed youth who didn't know when to holster his gun. "You will be missed dearly, my friend. Thank you for keeping the peace and doing what you thought was right. I'd gladly trade my life for yours any day… but today was not that day." Mxyz was one of the last ones to leave the funeral. He hopped into a limousine parked beside the cemetery. Inside was Velanidi. They sat together in sulken silence for a long majority of the drive before Mxyz looked over at her and questioned himself. "Are we being too kind? I feel like Quint was trying to do the right thing and paid the price unfairly for it." "Nothing is unfair in our line of work, Mxyz. Don't forget that." Velanidi replied. "Great man. I just miss him." Mxyz looked at his lap, another tear rolling down his face. "Wasn't the first. Won't be the last." He reminded himself. "Who do you have in mind for next in line?" She asked. "The last resort…" Mxyz and Velanidi looked at each other, she was half confused as to who he was referring to. Later that day, the same limousine pulled up to city hall in Brooklyn, New York. Out stepped Mxyz and Velanidi. Mxyz scanned the crowd around him, fighting to hold back his emotions as he climbed the steps of city hall and turned around to face the gathered crowd, interested to see which path Brooklyn would take next. "Ladies and gentlemen, I'm saddened to announce the death of the late Godfather Quint. The rumors you have heard are true, he is no longer with us. He was in a tragic car accident that he didn't survive. May us all have a moment of silence for a respectful man of this country, and the city of New York." Silence. "Where there is death, there is also life. Brooklyn, as always, will be forced to move on and move forward. And there's no one better to lead Brooklyn than Steven. I've known Steven since he was a small lad just in diapers and had the privilege to watch him grow up into the man we see him as today. He tried to live an honest life by selling potatoes on the local street corners here in New York, but this life of our dragged him in and showed him where he really belonged. He belonged to sell his potatoes in Brooklyn exclusively and make a little more pocket money for himself. Although he likes to be called Steve, his government name is Steven. We aren't in high school anymore. Steven has been a dedicated member of the family in Brooklyn that dates back as far as the revolution, and has dedicated his time and life to those who have served Brooklyn in the years to date. He is one of the most selfless people I know, and his time has come to be called a leader of this country. The Last Resort, in so many ways. His name is… Steven. Congratulations to the new leadership within Brooklyn and may Steven become the man we all know he can be. Today we celebrate life!" |

Senorita listened as Mxyz spoke. Their city had indeed suffered with the loss of Godfather Quint. She bowed her head in reverence as Mxyz spoke. But today was also a day of celebracion. A tribute to the city she loved and a new Godfather. She clapped with mucho enthusiasm as the announcement was made and made her way to Steve afterwards. "Muchas felicidades Steve! I know that this is a bittersweet moment for you, but take pride in your accomplishments. I'm sure you will live a life that honors not only Quint, but also our beloved city." Senorita gave him a hug, slipping an envelope into his pocket before taking her leave. |

Steve finally took auth, like I had planned for him to do this whole time. May you all feed him hotdogs, and don't let his leg get caught on a six-pack plastic when he's scrounging around on the beach for scraps. |

This is a very happy day for Wayne. Not only had his old family friend finally made GFC, he had done it with the greatest of names to have ever been uttered on this planet. He was steadfast, unyielding, unbreakable, immovable. A boulder in this world of pebbles and stones. He was Godfather Chairman of New York. His name is Sedimentary Steve. |
