Coco lifted up her luggage from the boot of the cab and let out a frustrated breath as she struggled to place it on the ground. The airport was buzzing with activity and Coco, who had not gotten much sleep the night before, was begging for a quick power nap. But it was all too late to think about as an announcement could be heard telling her of her flight’s soon departure. She tipped her cab driver and fast walked with her luggage to the check in counter. Her mind was spinning from stress and excitement. She hadn’t been to an airport since she was little.
After checking in, she began to make her way onto the plane after walking through a long hallway. A lady greeted her at the entrance of the plane, making a quick gesture with her hand guiding Coco to her seat.
Yes! Seat by the window. Coco gently placed her carry on bag in the overhead compartment before making her way to her seat. It was by the window, lovely view to boot. She then turned to her left when she felt the presence of a stranger move next to her. An immediate feeling of insecurity rushed over her when she noticed how polished and expensive the man looked, compared to her sweatpants-no-makeup-messy-bun look. He didn’t even face her way. Kept looking straight forward as if she wasn’t even there. Sigh. Coco chickened out of saying hello. Defeated and embarrassed, she leaned back into her seat and tried to focus on the view, searching for comfort. Slowly but surely she drifted to sleep.
Few hours later, the plane had already landed. Coco, however, was still fast asleep. A flight attendant then came to her side and lightly tapped her shoulder. Realizing that it wasn’t doing much, she then started to move her shoulder a little aggressively. Coco woke up immediately, letting out a gasp from her between her lips. The man who was previously sitting next to her was no where to be seen. But as she looked down to unbuckle her seat belt, she noticed a business card left on his seat. She panicked thinking that the mysterious man had left it accidentally. After grabbing her carry on, she didn’t want to leave any rubbish in her seat row so she decided to take the card and bin it later.
Coco didn’t think much of the card. She just wanted to arrive to her new apartment in LA and sleep. Being her clumsy usual self, she dropped the card, the words facing up this time. As her eyes quickly grazed over it she realized that the man leaving the card was no mistake.
