| What do you think of muslim faith? | Started by: WhiteWolf on Jul 20, '11 03:43 |

Why would someone ever believe in Satan if they didn't believe in a god? Does it somehow make it more believable if the invisible magic man is mean? |

I personally think all religion is rubbish but I am not going to go into that, everyone has their own right to worship whatever they want.. But out of all the religious faiths that I have researched and studied Islam I think is the one that makes the most sense to me anyway. It isn't like the other ones which make you feel like you are relying on made up bullshit and a history that constantly contradicts itself. It is a shame that certain follows of Islam fail to interrupt the Koran properly hence all the crazy terrorist. That being said people tend to forget the countless criminal and sinful acts performed by supposed "Christians" just cause they are not currently the direct attention of the media which most people tend to believe. |

Ha i hardly think that God is not in existance. I wouldnt mind seeing an intelligble debate about the very core of why someone believed there was not a God. Religon, just the following up of a God. |

If there were no religions, the world would be a better place. |

That's makes no sense. Every culture has a religion. Even the Ancient Egyptians believed in gods and goddess to explain things. So how can you say something like that? |

Religion is a very sensitive topic. Usually I wouldn't participate, but I saw something that got my attention. HoneyBunny you raise a point that is not only off-topic but you offer no explaination for your point. How would the world be better if there weren't any religions? The founding principals of most government are based on a religion in a way. Without religion, I think government would be whole lot different. I'm not really supporter of any government, but both religions and government give structure to societies. Sometimes even hope. Religion is still a free choice in most places. |

I don't think societal government is wholly dependent on religion. Yes, the two are intertwined at the roots, but that lies in the fact that religion has always been a cheap and easy way to assert influence over a large portion of the population. If you just put up a list of laws, people might chance it. If you claim you have a mandate from GOD and give all of your laws dire supernatural consequences, the superstitious citizens of your ancient world are much more likely to take heed. Plus, if they do break the law, you can burn them alive as enemies of god and just make your influence that much stronger. Religion was the original Big Brother. God is watching, and if you happen to make a decision for yourself which doesn't fall in line with the status quo, he will make sure you suffer for all eternity. So think twice before you spit that gum on the sidewalk. I'd like to think that had religion never been conceived, that we'd be alright. I don't believe that people are by and large evil creatures, only held in line by spiritual chains. People are realizing that you can be a good and decent person without fearing magical consequences if you slip up. I believe in humanity for the sake of humanity. We're all here together, and life knocks everyone around at some point. There's no need to make it any worse for anyone. As far as religion explaining things-- we have science. The more things we explain through knowledge and reason, the less religion has to cling to. Religion is all fine and well, if that's what a single person, acting on the behalf of no one but themselves, chooses to do with their time. The problem is when religious people co-opt my very real and logical world to advance their own agenda. |

What about ghosts and spirits? How does science explain that? |

No no, science explains things that actually happen. |

Right. So how does science explain the appearance of ghost on cameras and such? |

Are ghosts religion? I mean, I know there was that one, but this seems more like an argument against science than an argument for god. Anyway, to answer your challenge with the same surgical precision with which it was posed: You aren't seeing what you think you're seeing. Or, rather, you're not seeing what you want to believe you are seeing. But here's a quick start: http://api.sg/main/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=34&Itemid=105 At any rate, the real point is that science explores and questions. It wants to know why things happen, and the truth that underlies appearance. It's easy to witness something mind blowing, or confusing and write it off as god, or magic, or supernatural powers. But we owe it to ourselves to research and test--to learn as much hardcore factual information about our universe as we can. Cameras, film, lenses and light are really cool things. They're incredible tools that sometimes work in unexpected ways to create amazing and surprising visual phenomena. Likewise, the universe is a cool and complex thing, also capable of surprising and amazing us. To write these things off as "well, god did it" is a disservice to the human race and a forfeiture of the awe-inspiring beauty of the universe to an invisible passive-aggressive egomaniac who apparently created all this stuff in the first place just to fuck with us. |
