It wasn’t an ideal situation. Not at all. Evie clung to a bottle of whiskey as she walked in a drunken manner along the streets of LA. Occasionally tripping over her own steps. “Just my fucking luck,” she let out a groan. House had beaten her again, but who was really surprised? The scene she caused at the casino replayed in her head over and over again, each time the memory of her public breakdown getting drilled further in her head. “Yes, I know! I’m a loser!” Her voice was loud and croaky as she yelled at herself. She had taken off her heels and was holding both in one hand, earning a few stares from some people outside of a club who she waved to.
The only good thing that had come out of her night was the fact that she chose to walk home instead of driving home under the influence. She was a loser, but she wasn’t a selfish loser. Evie picked up her pace till she finally reached her apartment. The strong scent of the can of beans she accidentally left unopened in the morning reached her nostrils when she entered and now all she wanted was to just sprint to her bed, jump in those warm sheets and cry herself to sleep.
Broken fragments of last night’s events caught up to her the next morning. Remembering that she needed to head back to the casino to pick up her car, a quick shower and a bite of a stale muesli bar randomly laying on her couch sent her out the door. LA traffic was a bitch when she headed out.
As if the day couldn’t get any worse, a street beggar was holding up a knife to her face demanding that she step outside the car. With one hand on the steering wheel, she used the other to flip him off. Evie rolled her eyes. You’d think they’d be a little bit nicer when asking for some money. But Evie tried to empathise. After all, her crew was quite literally called ‘The Royal Beggars’. She was once in the same position too, although… there was less aggressiveness and no sharp blades.
After about thirty minutes of not moving, the congested line of cars finally started to slowly shuffle forward. Getting to see her family later that day was the only thing keeping her sane in that moment. The beggar had left, and now all she was able to pay attention to was the sound of honking cars and swear words getting tossed around from mouth to mouth. It appeared that one’s anger caused a domino effect and now everyone was just going batshit crazy.
… And that’s how her morning usually went. It was far from her expectation before moving to LA that she’d be living a quiet city girl life. Or was that supposed to be New York? Anyways, she had never been before. Maybe someone would take her one day?
