The job had gone down the drain. Luna’s mind went back to that night, when the shots fired through one of her partners chest. Her and her friends were assigned to take someone out, but the plan was executed poorly and lucky for the enemy, Luna and her partners had underestimated their capabilities. It was a big loss that night as she lost some great people. She was emotionally and physically drained.

Anyways, that was a few weeks ago. Luna decided to pause her hustle - for a bit - to get off some of the heat she was probably attracting.

She sat on her best friend’s porch smoking a joint as she contemplated what her next moves were going to be. All of a sudden, a fancy roadster pulls up in front of the house. Luna squinted her eyes and noticed that it was one of her other good friends, Phillip, who also went on the job with her. There was someone else in his passenger seat, Luna wasn’t sure who. Probably someone he was trying to get with.

He jumped out of the car, saying a few words to his girl-friend before coming up to Luna and Alayna. “You look great,” he said to Luna sarcastically as he looked her up and down. Truthfully, she did feel a bit insecure in her cheap tracksuit and unkempt hair, but she felt so comfortable in her lazy state.

“Whatever,” Luna rolled her eyes dramatically. Back at the car, she could see his female friend shaking her head and smiling. This bitch really laughing at me right now?

“What? It’s the truth,” his right hand was raised up in defense.

“Mhm,” Luna replied blatantly. She could hear Alayna telling him to fuck off.

He looked at them both, apologetic, but also with a smile on his face. “Hey, I just meant to say that you look better than expected after the incident and losing some of our mates, that’s all.”

“Right,” Luna turned away in an awkward manner, frowning. “I know that the guilt and pain isn’t going to go away. I just have to learn how to cope with it.”

She figured that everyone was in their feelings now as she was met with silence. Luna cleared her throat, trying to pull everyone back into the present. “How have you been doing, Phillip?”

“Keeping it cool, I guess. A little fucked up too.” He let out a sigh. “I still can’t believe that he’s gone.”

“None of us can,” Luna noticed Alayna putting her head in her hands.

“I beat myself up over the fact that if we simply used the other exit, maybe things would’ve gone different y’know?”

Luna was already feeling sad before Phillip came over, and now hearing him express what he was feeling for the first time since the incident made her soul hurt.

“Yeah. It was a fucked up situation. But I want us to be able to move on and still keep him in our hearts. There’s no point in crying over spilled milk. We’ve got to keep pushing…

…that’s what he would want us to do.”
