Unlike every other mafioso out there, Sinaya didn't have a sob story or a tragic past that ushered her into the life of crime. All she truly had was a penchant for beautiful, shiny things and luxury... and probably an aversion to hard work that went with it. Unfortunately, she wasn't born into the high life for which she believed she was always destined: she had a drunkard of a mother and she never even met her father. They lived in the worst parts of Fishkorn, Detroit -- oftentimes called the most dangerous neighbourhood in the whole city. The houses were mostly poorly-upkept, gardens unkempt and overrun with weeds. The sound of gunshots wasn't unfamiliar to anyone living in the neighbourhood, and neither was the sound of a police siren blaring through the streets. It just wasn't a good place to grow up in. I mean, even just the name Fishkorn screams unglamorous. Living in a shithole like that can harden anyone, even the prissiest of princesses. From a young age, Sinaya knew how to defend herself, and on occasions when her mother spent all their money on booze, she had to find alternative ways to put food on the table as well. She had always been the adult for as far as she could remember: when other kids were in sandboxes or going down a slide, Sinaya was selling cigarettes on the street or calling an ambulance for her mother. To be frank, Sinaya had no love for her but she was keeping her alive just until she was old enough so she didn't have to go into foster care. The last thing she wanted was to be bounced around the system and fucked up even more than she already has been. The moment she turned 16, she set out for a better life. With no formal education and only her street smarts guiding her, she knew what she had to do to achieve her dreams. Sure, she could stay on the straight and narrow by washing dishes or tending bar, but where would that get her? She didn't want to just survive, she wanted all the glitz and glamour that this life could offer. And if the stakes were higher, she knew that the reward would probably be better and so she took a gamble and started working for a group in Detroit notorious for trafficking drugs. After six long years, she found herself not only with a seat at the table, but with the seat right next to the group's leader. Sinaya was know to be snappy and honestly a bit of a bitch, but she also worked hard to prove her loyalty and that's why she is where she is now. Her tastes have evolved from anything sparkly and shiny to something more refined, like designer cars and expensive wine. After clawing her way up for so long, she finally got everything she wanted... but not without its setbacks. Other than the normal mafioso paranoia of always looking over her shoulder and having to walk around with goons all the time, another thing that dampened her success was the ever-present thought of her parents and the life she left behind. Her mother was no longer in their house (as much as she hated to admit it, she'd dropped by a few times to check), and Sinaya was almost certain she was dead but she'd at least like confirmation. Her father, on the other hand, was a bit easier to locate despite the fact that she was armed with only his nickname, Rick, and a crappy photo to go off of. After a few weeks of getting the word out, Sinaya's contacts identified him as Ricardo Perez, incarcerated in a jail near Atlanta. Without a second thought, she got dressed in her favourite dress and put on her shiniest jewelry and began the long drive in the middle of the night so she can visit him first thing in the morning... but don't mistake this as a loving daughter reconciling with the father she never knew. This was no redemption story -- no, this was a story of a woman who remembered everyone who stood in the way of her success and more importantly, the story of how she'll make them suffer. |
