*Zeitgeist wasn't looking his usual polished self, his eyes hung low and were enveloped in dark circles, his body language was bent over as if he was trying to make himself as small as possible to hide from the world, his jacket pocket was torn open with the linen fraying wildly and protruding out into the world and most telling of all his head rested on the dirty, sticky old oak bar counter with what looked like 3 bottles of Whiskey in front of him, two of which had already been spent. It was fair to say and obvious to all that he was attempting to drown at least problem in that peaty irish amber liquid, he didn't appear to be having much luck*

*Zeitgeist turned his eyes upward towards the bartended apparently still unable to move his head, locking eyes with the elderly gentlemen who somehow managed to wear a look of disgust and concern, simultaneously. Zeitgeist steered his eyes away from the barkeep into a particular point of nothingness in the top left corner of the ceiling where a deceased arachnid had made it's final stand, he summoned what little energy remained to commanded his mouth to move*

Emotion is such a liability, we attach ourselves to various things across our lifetime and in many of these instances this is to our own detriment, whether it was Sally behind the swings in my second year of school sent me home to start planning our marriage, only to find her the next day behind the cafeteria with my friend Billy. We choose to expose ourselves to these risks and heartbreaks as our biology bullies us into submission in the least subtle attempt ever to have us replicate our genetic material as many times as possible. We fall in love, stupidly multiple times across a lifetime, with animals whose lifespan is oft far shorter than our own, and this ephemeral blip of joy in our lives ultimately ends in loss, and depresssion as we seek to solve the other desire of our biology, to not be alone.

*Zeitgeist sighed, flailing his head from side to side on the bar top as the sticky surface stuck to his face pulling on his now filthy beard, his internal wrestling of whatever pain he was attempting to articulate was seemed to turn more extrinsic as it looked as if he was trying to exorcise it. Zeitgeist slowed his head rock a few moments later his eye settling back on the corner and back towards his friend the dead spider*

Hell we even develop affection for the inanimate, whether it be a favorite pair of slacks or the uncompromising love some develop for their cars, we seemingly are programmed to attach ourselves to things that will either leave us for Billy, live shorter lives than us, get torn as we bend to pick up a body from the floor or blow an engine. Sure, those interactions and engagements have value in the moment, they provide us with some form of satisfaction and we do our best to hold on to them for as long as possible, but ultimately everything always ends in nothingness and we find ourselves either lefting longing for what is gone or we are the dead spider on the wall....

*Zeitgeist lifted his head from the bar taking one final long gulp of whiskey before returning his head to the bar counter and slowly allowing his eyes to rest for a moment*
