Just Another Day in Paradise Started by: Lauren on Oct 30, '21 21:39

"A little more to the left! Little more!"

It was another day for Lauren on the construction yard. Working as a Construction Foreman had it's benefits, such as being paid so much more than the regular workers, and being able to work by the hour when she had to work over forty hours, but that was where the benefits ended. Construction Foreman was such a grueling job under the Nevada sun.

The job in itself was always Hell on Earth, but today was about to get a whole lot harder. Lauren had been told by her employer that the construction crew were now required to meet certain quotas, that they were supposed to fill by the end of the day, or Lauren could be deposed and replaced as the Construction Foreman of the site in Summerlin.

Lauren started frantically clapping her hands together as the construction workers started to slow down. The workers were now taking extra risks, and more frequently, just to save a little bit of time. Lauren had no idea what time it was. She had not been a Construction Foreman for very long, and so she did not yet make enough money to buy luxuries such as a pocketwatch, or any other form of time measuring tool. Minutes felt like hours, and Lauren consistently felt as if she was running out of time.

The young boy that was working to operate the crane was pissing her off way too much today. This was the first day that they were required to meet a quota, and the inexperienced boy was making mistake after mistake. No mistakes that resulted in people being injured, or lives being lost (so far) but these constant mistakes were wasting time. Lauren had already filed for a replacement crane operator several times, even before today, but the fact of the matter was that the only reason she was a Construction Foreman to begin with, and the fact that the crane operator was so young and inexperienced, is because this was only a few months after the Great Depression's symptoms finally started to alleviate themselves. There was quite simply, nobody to take the young boy's place. If there was, she would have already been replaced, as having a woman in a position of power was unheard of before the Depression.

"Come on.. We don't have all day.." Lauren whispers to herself, over and over. She crosses her arms impatiently, waiting until she had to bark orders at somebody else -- usually the crane operator. When she wasn't bossing people around, the only two things that she could worry about was meeting today's quota, and the scorching heat from the sun. Eventually, telling herself that she had to do something, she walked up to one of the sides of the high-rise's support beams, raising her head up and hollering at the construction crew overhead.

"Hey! How's it coming along up there?"
